The next three days went by painfully slow. On the morning of the third day, Renesmee and Jacob went off to visit Nahuel. Jacob wasn’t too happy about that.
“Why Nahuel? He wants to take Nessie as his!” he complained to me. I rolled my eyes.
“Jake, Nahuel and Huilen can make sure you don’t cause notice. Huilen is fine with you. It’s your best option for the next year,” I explained. Jacob grumbled, but got in the car anyway. Renesmee promised to call when they arrived, and once a week, hugging me and then Edward, and then hopped in the passengers seat. How much more grown would she be in a year?
Jacob was about to pull out when Renesmee gestured for me to come closer.
“The presents are in my closet. I trust you to give them to everyone tomorrow,” she whispered. I nodded, kissed her forehead, and watched as they drove off. Edward took me in my arms, and kissed me on the top of my head. We walked back into the house, and Alice smiled at me.
“Charlie will be calling to see you in half an hour,” she said. I smiled at her. That meant Charlie would be fine in half an hour. Hopefully.
Edward and I sat down on the couch. Edward tried to occupy me by kissing me, and I reluctantly gave in.
After half an hour, I heard Charlie’s voice.
“Bella?” he asked. I pulled apart from Edward, and was in the room Charlie was in within the next second. His eyes were wide, and I could see the crimson irises. I walked slowly towards him, not wanting him to jump up and go in a defensive position. He stood up, and looked around in wonder.
“Dad. It’s done,” I said. He nodded, and then pointed to his throat. I nodded.
“We’re going out hunting,” I said quietly. Carlisle nodded ever so slightly, and Edward was behind me in an instant, and his arm slipped around my waist.
I walked down the stairs and towards the back door. Charlie and Edward followed, and when we were outside, I ran. We were, conveniently, located near a forest. Suddenly, I stopped, and pulled Edward to the side.
“Check for humans,” I muttered. He nodded, and he went off.
“What do you mean, check for humans?” he asked. I sighed, and looked him in the eye.
“If a human crosses your path, you can’t attack it,” I said. Charlie nodded. He seemed to understand. Carlisle told him everything. Edward came back then.
“No humans. Let’s go,” he said. I nodded, and we started running. We found a few elk, and Edward nodded towards me. I attacked, while Edward told Charlie exactly what to do.
After I got my fill of a few elk (I hadn’t hunted since the day before Charlie was bitten), Charlie had a go. I watched him as Edward went. For a first try, he wasn’t so bad, though he did get a lot of blood on his clothes.
I waited for awhile, and then Edward was done. He held my hand as Charlie went for a few more elk.
“He’s not happy with me. He hates that I brought you into the vampire world,” Edward whispered in my ear. I wasn’t surprised. Then he sighed.
“He also is happy to finally know what’s going on. He understands he can’t see Renesmee for a year, but he doesn’t mind that so much. He has forever to see her. He’s trying to get his head around all our powers as well. He doesn’t like the fact that I’ve been able to read his thoughts all this time,” he continued. I smiled, as Charlie moved away from the Elk carcass and moved towards us.
“Time to go home?” I asked. He nodded, and we ran home. Charlie seemed happy with the speed. I didn’t blame him. It was exhilarating.
We arrived home, and we were greeted by Alice, who was looking at us, aghast. She obviously didn’t like the condition of our clothes. I rolled my eyes as she moved closer, and tutted slightly.
“Alice. We needed to hunt. All three of us,” I said. She sighed, and took my arm, dragging me to her room. I looked backwards towards Edward and Charlie, but they just followed. Great. Now I had two shadows.
She opened her huge wardrobe, and got out some clothes, for me, Charlie, and Edward.
“I got them, being warned about the condition of your clothes,” she said. Edward laughed, and she shoved the clothes into our arms. Charlie grunted.
“Alice, please,” he said. Alice crossed her arms, and raised an eyebrow.
“You’re part of this family now. You need to get over it,” she exclaimed. Charlie growled, and left the room, the clothes still in his arms.
“Alice. I do not want to wear a satin purple dress,” I complained. She sighed.
“I can cut it, and then it would be a top, and you can wear it with jeans,” she compromised. I agreed. What else could I do? Edward laughed again, and walked out of the room, putting the clothes on Alice’s bed. Alice got to work on the dress.
As she did it, I wandered away, and saw Charlie standing in the doorway.
“Sue,” he said when he saw me. I gave a him a small smile.
“Jacob told Seth. He told Sue and Billy. They understand,” I said. Charlie nodded.
“Will I ever see her again?” he asked. I put a hand on his shoulder. I knew his pain. He loved Sue, a lot. I was reminded of when Edward left.
“Maybe. But only occasionally. She’ll keep aging. It will be hard,” I muttered. He nodded, and I hugged him.
“It’s a lot easier having you in the know now,” I said. He nodded, and I let him go.
“I love you, kid,” he said.
“I love you too, Dad,” I replied. He smiled gruffly, then walked off.
