We reached the reception. People were staring at us. There was nobody on reception so we waited. Finally, someone came out.

“The late book’s in the welfare office,” she said briskly.

“We’re not late” Edward said.

“Yes you are. School started ten minutes ago”

“Yes. We arrived ten minutes ago; we were waiting for someone to come out”

“We’re new,” I said. Her eyes appraised us.

“Okay, what are your names?”

“Edward, Bella, Emmett, Alice and Cadyna Cullen. And Rosalie and Jasper Hale” said Edward. He seemed to be acting as spokesperson.

“Ages?” a new person came round the corner.

“Just give them the forms,” he ordered.

“Yes sir” she gave us a form each.

“Name, age, gender, all the basics” whispered Edward. We filled them in and she sent us to our classes. I had English first. Boring. I introduced myself to the teacher and she gestured to a seat.

“Hey” I whispered back.

“Yes?” whispered a girl with brown hair who was sitting next to me.

“Do you have any idea what we’re supposed to be doing?” I felt so helpless.

“Yes. A P.E.E paragraph. You make a point, find a quote from the text and explain it”

“Right. Thanks” I tried to get to work but it was hard. Finally, the lesson ended.

“What’ve you got next?” the girl asked.

“Umm…I’m not sure. This place is confusing”

“You’re acting like you’ve never been to a school before!” she laughed. Then she saw my expression.

“I was home schooled” I said, “I’m from America. A little town called Forks”

“Oh, right. Well, that was second period. We have break, then third, then lunch and fourth and fifth” I pulled the little homework diary they had given me.

“Food tech, in Tech 2” she explained.

“Thanks. I’m Cadyna by the way”

“I like that name. I’m Jo. Short for Joanna” she led me to the library.

“Ignore what you hear, this is where all the cool people spend break time,” she told me when I looked confused. I met her friends, Holly, Deanna, Katie, Mollie, Rebecca, Emma and Hannah. Holly was quiet, and at first, I thought she was shy but it turned out, she was very friendly, just deep in thought. She wrote books, Jo wanted to be a director and I wasn’t sure about the others. This was different; Edward had said that human’s naturally avoided them. I obviously wasn’t as threatening. But I was still dangerous.

“Holly! Wake up!” said Deanna.

“Sorry I was just thinking about the Cope brothers” they all sighed.

“Who are the Cope brothers?” I asked.

“Bailey, John and Michael Cope. They are so gorgeous, but they don’t seem to notice us,” explained Deanna. Mollie glanced at the clock.

“Eek! We’re late!” it turned out that I had exactly the same lessons as Holly. We had both opted to take Science, German, Drama and Food. She helped me through Food and at the end; she took me to the dining hall.

“I’m sorry I can’t eat with you. I’m eating with my family” I went over to where they sat.

“How was your first day?” Alice asked.

“Good, I met some great people” Jasper looked angry.

“You need to stay away from them. You’re like us, dangerous. Even more then us! If you want them to stay alive, stay away from them!” he ordered. Loudly to me but the human’s ears were too weak. I scowled at him.

“You have no right to tell me what to do!” I said, frostily.

“Yes I do!”

“No, you don’t” I got up and stormed off. I went to the library. None of my new friends had this lunch (another annoyance, Brighton Hill had two lunch breaks) so I was all on my own.

“Hello? You okay?” said a musical voice. I expected one of my family but instead there was a tall boy with black hair.

“Yeah I’m fine. Who are you?”

“John Cope”
