I know there's a few of those stories where either Jacob or Leah imprint on someone in another pack but this is different. What if imprinting doesn't always grant happiness and love? The night Leah Clearwater imprinted she was desperate to be rid of her love for Sam. Her imprint's name is Nick and he's a werewolf from another pack in the east. He's dealing with a pain that may be just as great as hers. She's dedicated to her imprint and he to her but neither of them feel the love that's supposed to come with imprinting. Sometimes even imprinting can't cure a broken heart. Can they fall in love the normal way? On top of all of this the soul mate and imprint of one of Leah's pack brothers is killed by a fellow werewolf. The pain and guilt is tearing her pack apart. Somehow it all keeps getting worse from there. Is there really such thing as happily ever after? Or is life just agony and sadness? So I decided I loved this banner best! It was made by my lovely beta Delenda!

I know what you're thinking... 'WHAT she's writing ANOTHER story even though she's in the middle of two!' Well... I'm stuck, in both of my stories. So I started this one! I was just listening to Desperate by David Archuleta and I started to think about Leah. So this story popped into my head and I wrote it down. And I do not own the Twilight series obviously. I know there's a disclaimer at the bottom of this site but I like to be safe and put it in here anyways. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Shattered Rose and Splintered Wood

(Leah’s POV)

You're reachin' out,
And no one hears your cry
You're freakin' out again
'Cause all your fears remind you
Another dream has come undone
You feel so small and lost
Like you're the only one
You wanna scream,
'Cause you're desperate

You want somebody, just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin'
That some day you're gonna see the light…

I stared at the delicate glass rose sitting on my dresser as it sparkled in my bedroom light. Sam had brought this for me on our second date. I touched one of the cold, smooth pedals. A teardrop slid down my cheek and splashed next to the beautiful rose.

Stupid boy, still making me cry after all this time. My warm fingers curled around the green tinted stem. With an inhuman speed I flung the rose at the wall. It shattered and clattered to the ground in a million sharp, hard pieces.

“Just like my heart,” I whispered to myself.

“Leah! What happened? Are you okay in there?” My mother’s frantic voice called through my door.

I only growled.

“Come on honey, the wedding wasn’t that bad,” she said.

“Go away!!!” I yelled.

Silence was the only response I got. I clenched my fists in anger. The wedding. I don’t know I’d made it through the entire thing without losing control. That was a miracle.

It was dark outside now. Sam and Emily were on their honeymoon at this moment. Tremors rocketed through me and I fought off the red haze that threatened to cloud my vision. I needed to throw something else. I spotted a picture frame holding a photo of Sam laughing, my arms thrown around him and my eyes dancing in a way that was forgotten to me.

I hated being back in my old room full of these terrible reminders of what was never meant to be but my mom had insisted that I stayed the night after the wedding even though I only lived ten minutes away. I chucked the picture at the wall in the same spot where the glass rose had broken. The wood split sending a cascade of splinters onto the floor amongst the glass shards.

Destroying things wasn’t helping much. I was shaking so hard I couldn’t see straight. It was a good thing I wasn’t to fond of the ratty sweats and baggy t-shirt I was wearing. I crashed through the window just as I exploded into a giant grey wolf. My paws hit the ground with a thump and I took off running for the woods.

I knew how Jacob felt when he ran away after getting Bella’s wedding invitation back when he loved her before he imprinted on her daughter (which I found totally weird). I thought he was being stupid and childish trying to run away from his problems. I understood now. I felt crazy, wild, and desperate for an escape.

I’d chased away all of my friends with my angry bitterness and there was nobody to talk to, no one to comfort me. I was completely alone. I skidded to a stop and threw my head back to let out a heartbroken howl. I drew it out, a long wavering cry of grief.

Thump. Thumpthump. Thump.

My howl cut off abruptly. What was that? I listened intently, my ears standing straight up and quivering slightly.

Thump thumpthump thump thumpthump thump thumpthump thump…

It sounded like a werewolf’s heavy paws thudding against the ground. I waited but heard nobody else’s thoughts enter my head. The wolf was getting louder, closer. I could hear its breaths coming in quick pants. I breathed in deeply. It was a werewolf alright but not one of my pack brothers.

Could it be possible there were other packs like ours there? I could see its dark shape getting closer. I tensed, waiting. The huge wolf leaped and landed right in front of me. We stared at each other.

I could tell at one that it was a boy. His black fur was slightly shaggy and seemed to have a peculiar bluish tinge to it. There were two small white spots on his back, each in the shape of a star. His muzzle was streaked with silver. The dark brown eyes staring at me seemed much too intelligent for a regular wolf.

He turned and ran into a thicker group of trees. There was a slight shimmer in the air and I could tell he was phasing human. He came back wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

“Hey can I talk to you for a minute?” he asked.

I bowed my head and indicated my back leg where a black string was tied. It usually held my clothes. It was empty. He seemed to understand because he pulled off his shirt and tossed it to me. I caught it on my nose and trotted to the same spot he’d changed.

It felt awkward walking out to meet him in nothing but a t-shirt but he was much bigger then me so at least the shirt fell past my knees. I looked him over. He was large and muscular like most werewolves. His hair, like his wolf fur, was black and slightly shaggy. Then our eyes met. I gasped.

Oh. My. Gosh.

I’d imprinted.

You're in the dark
There's no one left to call
And sleep's you're only friend,
But even sleep can't hide you
From all those tears and all the pain
And all the days you wasted pushin' them away
It's your life, it's time you face it

You want somebody, just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin'
That some day you're gonna see the light...
'Cause you're desperate, desperate
'Cause you're desperate now...
