I stood in the clearing, letting the sun wash over me. I watched the sparkles on the trees. We traveled a lot. Vikki (as she preferred me to call her) was great fun to be around. James was very clever and Laurent was seriously cool. Since I had changed, my mind had been different.
“Bella? Can you hear me?” I opened my eyes. Laurent, Victoria and James were leaning over me. I leapt up and was up against a wall in seconds. I snarled.
“It’s okay Bella. Relax, you’re safe here” said Laurent.
“You…James…you…hunted. Edward” I couldn’t even phrase a sentence.
“It’s okay,” he repeated.
“You came to the Ballet studio. Edward was in on the plan. He was planning to get you killed. James, Victoria and I decided to go against him. We had to make it look authentic and we knew that if you were still human, he would kill you. So we changed you but he turned up early, before we could take you somewhere safe. He got angry and tried to attack you. We defended you and he was killed. I’m sorry,” he said. I found it hard to believe. Edward was my perfect match in everyway. But he was to perfect. He just wanted me dead.
I never wanted to see that idiot again. Well, at least they had done me one favor that day. Part of me still had trouble accepting he was dead and that he had wanted to kill me.
“Bells?” Vikki was calling me. I ran to her.
“Hey Vic. Where are we of to now?”
“Not sure. I just wanted to see if you fancied going to that new bar that’s opened in town. We had just stopped in a small town near Forks.
“Sure” I knew what she meant. Did I want to get some food. Sure, I was thirsty. A while ago, I might have cared about drinking from humans but now I was part of this coven. Normally we picked off random people but occasionally a challenge presented itself. Then we used all our skills. James, his ability to capture. Victoria, her ability to escape. Laurent, his ability to contain and me. My ability was special, unique. I had the ability to create things. Out of thin air. I remembered how I had discovered it.
I was flicking through a magazine. Vikki was doing her make up.
“Seen anything you like?” she asked. I was staring at a tight green velvet dress. I wished I had it. My hands glowed and a folded piece of green velvet was in them. I unfolded it.
“Wow” said Vikki.
“Are you going to change?” Vikki asked.
“Yes. If I want to get anything good” I changed into a tight-fitting black off the shoulder top and tight jeans. Vikki wore a mini skirt, black tights, black tank top and a leather jacket. We walked out of the woods. The sun was just setting and it emphasized out unnatural beauty. We wore contacts so as not to reveal our true nature. Vikki had blue, I had brown. Well, Vikki looked like she had purple eyes. We walked down the street, the florescent lights reflecting on our skin. Night-Flight was our target bar. We walked in and the pulsing music consumed us. The atmosphere was contagious. We walked up to the counter and stood there.
“Targets?” I asked. Vikki pointed at a lean, handsome man on at the other end of the bar. I nudged her and gestured at a tall, burly man who was eyeing us up. I recognized him. The man who had pursued me down the alley. I walked over to him.
“Hey beautiful” he said.
“Are you alone?”
“I’m with my cousin”
“Do you fancy going out for a bite to eat?”
“I thought you’d never ask” he led me out the back door and into a deserted alley.
“There’s nothing down this way,” I said, as though I didn’t know how evil he was.
“Sure there is”
“What is there?”
“There’s you and me” he pushed me against the alley wall. Then I sank my teeth into his throat. His blood ran into my mouth. I shoved his drained corpse into a rubbish bin. Then I went back into the bar. Vikki was at the bar and her eyes were deep purple. She had finished her victim as well. I felt a bit sorry for hers. Mine had been evil, he deserved to die, and her’s didn’t.
“Are you full yet?”
“No. I could do with another” she inhaled.
“Do you smell that?” she said. I breathed in. the sweet smell of vampires.
“Yes. Looks like we weren’t the only ones with the idea to come here”
“I can see why, good pickings” she commented. We walked through the crowded bar. On the dance floor there was a large space. Four tall figures stood out. Seated on one of the sofa was a fifth. A tall bronze haired boy.
