Notes:
I don't own these characters except for Roxanna, Rhiannon and Shannon. Roxanna's father is partly property of bram stoker and partly property of my imagination. The rest are Stephenie Meyers and i'm seriously annoyed about that. This is not based on the song Rebel without a clue

At lunchtime I asked Bella if I could tell her now, (I luckily had my fourth lesson with her)

“Fine. But Edward will be waiting for me outside. I’ll just send him off” we left the class. Yes, there was Edward. God, he was gorgeous.

“Edward, can I join you in a minute? Roxie and I are just going to talk about something”

“Talk away” he said. I sighed; boys never grasped the meaning of the word unwelcome.

“It’s kind of a private matter,” I said. My life was very private. And insane. He nodded, kissed Bella’s cheek and left.

“So what is it?”

“This is going to sound insane”

“I’m used to insane. I have survived here for ages after normality. That’s normally impossible”

“Fair point. Okay, my dad. He went missing about a year ago. I’ve already told you that bit. The bit I haven’t told you is…well, he’s a vampire hunter. He’s convinced vampires exist and his father was one as well. Ever read Bram Stokers Dracula? The Van Helsing in that is his great great grandfather. My dad didn’t really do that for ages. His dad was a bit disappointed. So, anyway, my dad believed that vampires existed but he saw no harm in them. Then, three years ago, my sister Rhiannon disappeared. She had been talking about this hot boy in her year. With ice cold, hard skin. She vanished and my dad got obsessive. My mum put up with him but one night they had a big row. The next day when I got home from school my mum was staring into space. I asked her and she said dad had left. I got really angry and shouted at her. She slapped me and stormed out. I drove for ages but I never found him. Then…” my voice trailed off. Bella was staring at me. She thought I was insane. Then she hugged me.

“I believe you. I’ll talk to you later, I need to sort something out” she ran off. I was alone. There was the part I hadn’t told her. Then she reappeared.

“I forgot to ask, do you want to come out with me?”

“Where?”

“I’ll surprise you. You need to make sure that your first weekend in Forks is good” then she headed off again.

*********

At the weekend, Bella arrived at my door.

“We’re meeting the others”

“Where are we going?”

“Secret”

“Who’s going?”

“Jessica Stanley, Angela Weber, Edward, Alice, Angela’s boyfriend Ben, Tyler Crowley, Lauren Mallory and ummm…Mike”

“What! You invited Mike?”

“No. Jessica did”

“I didn’t think Edward would enjoy a group trip. He just strikes me as that type. The quiet loner type”

“Yes, but he wants to stay with me” her truck was slow but we were soon at a large white building. When we entered it, I caught the smell of chlorine. No, please, anything but

“Swimming!” said Alice, handing me a bag. She was small and pixie like. Very pretty. I opened it. A swimming costume. I tried not to look pale. I could do this. We went to the changing rooms and got changed. Edward and the others were waiting by the pool. I noticed that two of the girls were eying him up in his trunks.

“Roxie, this is Jessica, Angela and Lauren” she introduced me to the girls. A blonde girl with medium length hair, a brunette and a girl with short-cropped hair. She had fish eyes.

“This is Ben and Tyler,” she said. Ben was short and had brown hair. Tyler was an average boy.

“So, are we going in?” said Jessica. She led us to the pool.

“Someone said you were rubbish at sport” I whispered the Bella. If she wanted to sit out, I would happily join her.

“I like swimming. It’s relaxing. Plus, Edward wills top me drowning” Tyler dived off the side. Mike tried to copy but just made a big splash. The girls took ages, dipping their toes in and squealing while the boys splashed them. Bella slid into the pool with Alice and Edward holding her hand. They were all in but me. Oh no. They looked at me expectantly. I took one-step towards the water. The air seemed to shimmer.

****Flashback****

I was driving my car along winding roads. Passing places that my dad liked to go. I couldn’t stay with mum. Not anymore. I was deep in thought. I didn’t see the road twist. The car was going straight. I tried to pull at the wheel but it was useless. I was going to jump out of the car but it plummeted into dark black water. I tried to open the door, to escape. No luck. The water was seeping in. I gasped for air as the water covered me. Couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. I was drowning. Darkness. A bright light above me.

There were anxious faces all around me.

“Roxie?”

“Yes?” I mumbled.

“Thank God. You’re alive”

“What happened?”

“You slipped, fell into the water. The deep bit. We waited for you to come up but you didn’t Edward dragged you out” Bella said.

“Thanks” I said. Then I realized that Edward’s face was not among the anxious ones. I stood up. He was standing back, pale and his face containing a mix of emotions. Horror, recognition, Speculation.

“I’m going to get changed” I went to the changing rooms. When I came out, Alice and Edward were arguing nearby, in hushed voices.

“I feel responsible”

“You weren’t to know. If it was anyone’s fault, it’s mine. I should have seen it!”

“No. I recognized her the moment I saw her. She’s the same. Of course she would have a fear of water” then they turned and saw me.

“Err. Where’s Bella?”

“She went to wait in the café. Are you feeling okay?”

“Yes. Just…bad memories” I walked off. Bella was sitting in the café as Edward said.

“Roxie! I’m so sorry. I forgot to ask if you liked swimming or not. I’m incredibly sorry!”

“Shhh. It’s fine!”

“What happened?”

“There was a bit I didn’t tell you. When I tried to find my dad, I wasn’t concentrating. I didn’t see a turn in the road and I didn’t have time to turn. I drove into the river. I couldn’t get out”

“But you’re alive”

“Yes”

****Flashback****

Darkness. A bright light appears above me. A bang. The water flooding out of my car only to be replaced by more. Glass floating around me. A hand. Pale, hard seizing my own. Dragging me. The window, jagged glass edges. Floating. Being pulled to the surface. Air, sweet air, flooding my lungs.

“Breathe!” a voice, poetical even when shouting. A face, blurry and distorted to my eyes.
