Drip, drip, drip. How had it come to this? Before, my life had been so happy. Then we moved. I had met a boy. A vampire. He had claimed he loved me. Then he tried to kill me. I was cast out. Alone. Cut off from family and friends. I didn’t begrudge Jasper, even though he was the one who had cast me out. I had spent a month in this place. A damp warehouse with a leaky roof.

Drip, drip, drip. It was all his fault. John, the incubus. I was determined to kill him one day. I doubted he would give up, try and find me again. I hadn’t killed him then as I had a family who I wanted to be with. Then they removed me and there was nothing stopping me from going after him, except honor. I was in wolf form as I had been for the past month. I had stolen food from kitchens as well as gone hunting on small animals. I had no clothes left as they had been ripped to shreds the first time I’d phased since I’d left. I was planning to steal some. A plan was forming in my mind. I was going back to Italy. The Volturi would be happy to see me. They knew I wouldn’t slaughter innocents, so maybe they wouldn’t want me either. But it was worth a try. They could at least kill me quickly. I had no one, life wasn’t worth living anymore. I was suddenly fed up of this damp, dreary place. I got up and padded outside. It was midnight. The nearest house was about a mile away but I reached it in a minute. All the lights were out so I shifted into human form. There were clothes on the washing line. They weren’t what I wanted but they would do for a minute or two. I put them on and looked at the house. One of the windows was open. I climbed up the drainpipe to the window and peeked in. a sleeping girl at the other end of the room. She looked about my size. I slipped into her room and quickly sorted through her wardrobe. Perfect. A pair of black trousers and a black top. They were still in their packet.

“Who are you?” oh. She’d caught me. But she wasn’t screaming, calling for help.

“I’m just someone. Passing through”
“are you a vampire?”

“Kind of”

“Cool. Why are you looking at my clothes, aren’t you going to drain my blood and then I’ll be a vampire too?” she sounded so hopeful.

“It doesn’t work like that I’m afraid. I’m not even a proper vampire. I just need some clothes. I don’t have any money and I need to get somewhere”

“You can have those. I’ve never worn them,” she said. I smiled.

“Do you want some food or anything?”

“If it’s okay” she jumped out of bed and crept downstairs. Soundlessly for human ears. Then she returned with a loaf of bread, a bag of crisps, some cold meat pie and a few other things in a carrier bag.

“Thank you. I have to go” I jumped out of her window and landed on all fours. I took off the clothes I had borrowed from the washing line and shifted. I spotted her face peering at me through her window. Now I just had to find a way to get to Italy.
