I had been at the Volturi for a month. Jane and I were okay friends. Felix was great (he was like a father) and Alec, was, well, slightly complicated. He seemed to like me yet he seemed reserved around me. Caius still hated me. Marcus was a bit like a mentor and Aro was, well Aro. He had sent me on quite a few missions. Retrieval mainly (since I wouldn’t kill innocents) but a few missions that involved killing in which I would have a partner and I would only have to capture the person. I still felt a bit guilty at being an accessory to murder. I had learnt which members of the guard were permanent, which ones weren’t, which ones to avoid, which ones were friendly. Chelsea, her mate Afton, Renata and Santiago were good friends with me. Corin, Demetri and Heidi hated me. On the rare occasion I was paired with one of them, it was often necessary to find a hiding place at night when I went to sleep. They would probably try to break me apart, just to see if I could reassemble myself. I hunted animals outside the city and ate rare steaks that I bought in the market. That was the good thing about being a crossbreed; I looked human so I could go shopping.

“Hello Aro” I said to the Volturi leader.

“Ah, Cadyna. Your mission was a success?” he enquired.

“Yes. He’s in the room with Jane” I replied. My latest job had sent me to capture a vampire suspected of having an immortal child. The room was an interrogation/torture room. Jane was great at getting people to talk.

“You do realize that if the rumor turns out to be true, you will have to leave again to destroy the threat,” he said. Grrr. I hated him some days. He could just be so infuriating. If it weren’t for the fact that I had nowhere else to go, I would be long gone by now.

“I’ve said it before Aro, I won’t kill,” I told him, coldly.

“You killed that vampire,” he reminded

“John deserved it,” I said.

“And that other one”

“You didn’t give me a choice” he looked at me and raised an eyebrow at me. That made me angrier. He hadn’t given me a choice! What gave him the right to order me about? I wanted to be out of the room.

“Well, I’m going to sleep” I said before leaving. I heard a voice as I walked down the corridor.

“When are we going to do this?”

“Soon. But not yet. First we handle the Cullen’s, then we deal with Aro and Marcus” I tried to recognize the voice. I heard footsteps coming towards the door and I ran off. I went to my room and leant against the door. I heard footsteps going past. When they had passed my door, I opened it and peered out. I saw the back of Caius’s head. Then Demetri and Heidi walked past. I had no idea why they were doing it but I could work out thing. They were going to overthrow the Volturi. And kill the Cullen’s.
