You're Still Here!

Somebody comes to Forks that Edward thought should have died a long time ago. How will this new arrival affect the Cullens' and Bella's life? I know it says no spoilers, but there actually are a few. DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the Twilight characters!

I just thought of this one day and decided it would be cool to write.

Bella’s P.O.V.

When we arrived there, we just walked for a while. It wasn’t really an awkward silence between us, but it was a silence still the same, and silence only gave me time to think about what I did not care to think about. I came here to get my mind off of him, and that’s exactly what I was going to do.

“So how’s the pack?” I asked him.

A look was brought to his face that I couldn’t quite make out, and then it quickly disappeared. “Their doing good.” He didn’t give me any more than that. I tried to think of something else to say.

“How’s Quil?” I asked. It was the only thing I could think of at the time, but I regretted saying it when I saw that same look return to his face.

“He’s doing good. He’s better now that he can hang out with Embry and I again,” Jake told me.

“How’s that?” I wondered. As far as I was aware of, he wasn’t supposed to be around Jacob because he was a werewolf.

“He joined the pack.”

I stayed silent for a while, digesting that. As I was thinking about it, Jake went and sat on our tree. “I’m sorry,” I said after a while and went to go sit beside him. To my surprise, he laughed. It wasn’t necessarily a happy laugh.

“Don’t tell him that.”

“He’s thrilled about it. Glad to not be an outsider anymore.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Quil was happy to be a werewolf? Jacob made it seem so bad. “Why is he glad? I thought it wasn’t well liked.”

“No, not necessarily. Pretty much everyone is fine with it. Sam and I were the only ones ever upset about it. But Sam is pretty much over it, so I guess I’m the only crybaby now,” he told me.

“Why is that?”

“You can’t guess?”

I suppose I could guess, but I didn’t like the answer. “They’re not that bad, Jake,” I told him.

“Hah! Yeah right.”

“They’re not!”

“They’re cannibals, Bella. That’s not that bad?”

“They’re not cannibals and you know it.”

“Maybe they aren’t, but I wasn’t talking about just them. I was talking about vampires in general. I can’t understand why you like him so much?” Jacob told me.

“Why does anyone love anyone? I can’t explain it,” I answered.

“I can,” Jacob said, quietly, but still audible.

“Really? Okay, Jake. Tell me. Why do I love Edward?” And I did still love him, and that realization hurt. After what he did to me, I still loved him. Not even any less. But before I could dwell on that realization, Jacob spoke again.

“I meant I can explain why I love you,” he told me.

“ Jake,” I said, a little sad about his answer.

“I love you because you’re sweet. You’re kind. You’re fun to be with. You don’t care that I’m a werewolf, or that he’s a vampire, which is amazing! You are the most amazing girl that I have ever met. Ever.”

“Jake,” I said again.

“And I love you for that. And I want you to pick me. I know that now you’re with him, but I don’t like that. I won’t accept that you’ve already made your decision because when you make your decision, I want you to choose me,” he told me.

“But I have made my decision Jake. I chose him. Long before I ever met you I chose him, Jake.”

“Now is that even fair? Making your choice before you even knew all the options? No, it’s not fair. To you or to me. Think about it Bella. Have you ever thought about your options? Have you ever thought that maybe we could be more than just friends? Or have you just thought that you were with him and nothing could ever change that, not even him leaving you? I’ve thought about us being more than friends many times, and you know what, it seems good. It seems great! I could give you everything you ever needed and more! Bella, please.” he begged me. I cut him off before he could say anymore.

“I love him, Jacob. Only him.”

“But how do you know that? Like you said, you picked him before giving yourself a chance to, as they say it, test the waters. How do you know you can’t love me, too, if you never try?”

“Jake, stop,” I begged him.

“No, I won’t stop. I know a way I can make you see you love me, too.” I saw the pleading in his eyes change to something else. Determination. He leaned in closer to me and I realized what he was going to do. Before I had a chance to escape, he had his lips on mine.

At first I kissed him back because I was still in shock about what was happening and about Edward had done. Also because I was hurt from what Edward had done. It had always seemed so crazy to me how a person would go out and cheat after they had been cheated on, but now it didn’t seem so far off. Then the shock of what was happening wore off, and I did remember that I loved Edward, and that even though he had cheated on me and hurt me, it would be wrong to do the same to him. I broke away. “Jake, stop.”

He did. And when he looked at me again, it broke my heart because he looked so happy. He thought he had won. How was I going to tell him that wasn’t the case? I guess that my face looked as sad as I felt, because his happiness disappeared when he looked at it. “I’m sorry, Jacob,”

“Sorry? About what?”

“I shouldn’t have done that.”

“It’s alright. Trust me,” he said.

“No, it’s not alright,” I told him. “Ugh, I did exactly what he did to me,” I said this to myself this time, but he still heard me.

“Cullen?” he asked. He could tell by the look that came to my eyes that he was right. “What? What did he do to you?”

“Nothing. I shouldn’t have said anything.”

“Yes you should have. What did he do to you Bella?”

“It’s something. It’s something bad. I can tell it’s hurting you. Now what? What did he do to you that you just did to him? What did you do?” He could tell I wasn’t going to tell him, and he started thinking, getting up and pacing across the sand while he thought. He was smart, and I knew he would figure it out. And he did. He stopped suddenly in the sand and took in a deep breath. When he looked at me, I could tell by the look in his eyes that he had guessed right. “Bella, tell me he didn’t.” When I didn’t say anything, I knew he knew he had it right.

“I can’t believe him!” Jacob roared.

“Jake, calm down,” I said. He was starting to shake a lot.

“No! I can’t believe he did that! When?! With who?!”

“No one. Jake, calm down. Please!” He was shaking really hard now. He seemed to realize this and took a second to calm down enough so that only his hands were shaking.

“Who did he cheat on you with, Bella?”

“No one. You don’t know her. It doesn’t matter.”

“Of course it matters! He cheated on you!” he roared at me.

“It was a mistake. That’s all. It probably didn’t mean anything.” But even as I said it, I knew it wasn’t true. I just had to keep Jake from going to fight Edward, which I knew he would want to do.

“Just a mistake? Just a mistake?! I can’t believe this! First you forgive him for leaving you for dead, and now you’re defending him for cheating on you?! Well I’m not that forgiving Bella.” And with that he took off back down the beach toward where his car was parked.

I took off running after him. He was walking really fast. “Jacob, wait! Where are you going? What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to kill him!” he growled.

That stopped me in my tracks. “Kill?!”
