I drummed my fingers on the kitchen counter as I waited eagerly for the sound of Jake’s giant wolf paws on the soft forest floor. I could almost feel the anxiety rolling off me in waves. I nearly jumped out of my skin when Jasper tapped my shoulder.
“Calm down, Nessie. He’ll be here soon enough. You don’t need to be anxious. I’m sure his patrol is just taking a little longer than usual.” As he said it, he sent a wave of calm reassurance over me.
“Thanks, I needed that. I know he’s just running a little late, but you know how the whole imprint thing works. We’re both anxious when apart.”
As I said this, we both heard labored breathing and giant paws pounding the ground in haste. A few seconds later, he was coming in the front door. I rushed up towards him and embraced him in a tight hug.
“Jake, why were you gone so long? You had me worried sick!” I pretended to be upset but he saw right through me.
“You didn’t think I forgot about you, did you?” He was always so sarcastic, but that’s why I loved him.
“Shut up, Jake.” I mumbled into his muscular chest.
Today was Jake’s birthday. Alice and I had planned a huge surprise party for him. All of his pack from La Push was coming over. We were on good terms with the pack now. There wasn’t really a treaty anymore since my Dad and Grandpa Carlisle had worked things out with them. Sam wasn’t the alpha anymore. He decided to stop phasing after his second child and live out a long, peaceful life with Emily. In his place, my Jake became alpha of the very large La Push pack. There were around twenty-three wolves in his pack now. I think all the power went straight to his head sometimes though. I heard my dad chuckle in the kitchen and tell my mom after I thought this.
It was kind of annoying to have someone able to read you every thought. I know my dad didn’t like most of the things Jake thought when we were together. My mom and Aunts, Alice and Rose, always thought it was cute.
“Nessie, Rose and I need you upstairs. Now!” Aunt Alice all but screamed at me. Sometimes I think she forgets that I’m half vampire.
“Coming Alice! I’ll be right back, Jake.”
“I’ll be waiting in the kitchen.” Jake looked slightly annoyed as he said this.
I gasped in surprise when I walked into Alice and Jasper’s room. The decorations covered the floor and couch. They were beautiful even though they were just mostly streamers and balloons. The metallic tint mixed with all the colors you can think of was amazing.
“You like it? Alice asked me.
“Yeah. I love it!
“If you ask me, I think she went overboard.” Rose said distastefully.
Alice scowled at Rosalie in mock anger.
