My eyes couldn’t even take in everything. The only thing I could focus on was three majestic vampires sitting on ornately carved thrones in the center of the room. The one in the middle stood up and met us halfway across the room.

“Ah… Renesmee, it’s so nice to see you again.” He took my hand in his. I had no recollection of this man at all. My head began to pound as I tried to remember him.

“How do you know my name?” I asked, withdrawing my hand from his grasp. He looked at me with a sad expression covering his paper-like face.

“You lived with a family named the Cullens. They gave you to us because they wanted you used as a weapon. They thought you to possess an amazingly powerful gift that has yet to be unleashed. So, welcome to the Volturi Guard.”

“What is that?”

“What does it sound like? We need guards, and in return you practically became royalty just because you can say you are a vital component of the Volturi Guard.” He said with a smile. I didn’t think the idea of royalty was so bad, but I was suspicious of what I would be required to do as a ‘guard’.

“What will I have to do?” I asked hesitantly. Aro pondered this for a moment, then spoke slowly.

“For now, Demetri will help you work on further developing your power.” I was excited to learn I would be working with Demetri, and I glanced over at him unconsciously, and Aro didn’t miss it. He smiled at me encouragingly, then looked at Demetri and said,

“You’re dismissed.” And turned around with a sweep of his black cape. Demetri walked over and took my hand to lead me out of the room. I followed him down the dark corridors and didn’t think to ask where we were going until it looked like he was headed outside.

“Where are you taking me?”

“Out on the balcony. Volterra is beautiful at night.” I could feel a cool breeze before I saw outside. The courtyard was made of stone, but the walls were lined with flowers and torches were the only source of light. The smell of rain floated through the air and I saw dark, heavy clouds brewing on the horizon.

“It’s going to rain.” I said.

“Yes, it is. I love it here even when it rains.” Demetri said dreamily. I looked up at him and he was gazing into the setting sun on the left with a smile on his face. I’d never seen anyone so blissful before. Then again, I don’t remember anything before this morning so it doesn’t say much.
