On her day,
It was one of pride,
Rode sweltering heat,
Off marching in his place.
Locked in what was seen as joy,
No one could know in the way she’d committed.
She’d pulled him aside on that momentous mourning,
Showed him what was brewing inside.
In her own special way,
She had known before all others,
His love had conspired,
With hers’ in a shadowy glance.
Daddy dearest had not known,
But to her mother and aunt’s intuition ‘o plenty,
She sought out faces of scorn, torn with worry.
Instead she caught glimpses of beauty and pride,
Her mother had held her gaze unwavering.
Many a thought ran through her head,
Oh, Nessie, oh gosh.. My Jake is upfront.
She turned to her father,
Tender with such care,
Lost were the days where he’d shed his tears.
The music cued right on time,
To be perfect..
The mourning had turned in favor of hers’.
Eyes glued to their faces,
Father handed daughter to husband,
Though inside he knew with little reluctance,
Jacob was right in every way.
I Do… hear, hear..
It rang out so, so clear!
And yet one little thought could escape..
It was not lost.
Daddy dearest broke out in fever that mourning-
Lies to beseech!
She watched as time slowed.
The happy wedding melody melted into a dirge.
Now awfully pronounced,
Spoke volumes to daddy…
Terror etched permanently into his eyes.
She held him,
So fixed to the spot.
Was this worth fighting for.
Alas, not a moment had passed when tears shattered her dream!
Poor, poor Ness woke up…
And then realized..
She’d left Jake at the alter.
