I heaved a heavy sigh.

Argh, this was simply depressing! All the ballerinas and I stood outside what was left of Mimi’s Dancing School. It was burnt to the ground. Everything was black and gray. It smelt like smoke, tears, and this other very sweet, almost bitter smell.

All the memories I have at this school. All the recitals, all the practices, everything was burnt away along with the building.

I looked around my friends. They were all thin and small. My best friend Bethany stood beside me, her wide eyes looking down at the burnt building. She looked like she was about to cry.

I couldn’t blame her. All these dancers spent most of there lives here. And now it was burnt to crisp.

All our memories...

I heaved another heavy sigh.

I heard some crying over to the left. I turned to see Madame Mimi, an ancient woman who opened this ballet studio back in the 50’s. This was her life. She lived for dance and ballet.

Seeing her frail, aged body shake as she cried was downright disheartening. She was talking to one of the fireman. He was patting her back, trying to comfort her. Suddenly she raised her arms.

“G-girls! Come here-e!” Madame Mimi managed to burst out.

All of the ballerinas rushed over to our dear Madame Mimi. We all thought of her as our grandmother.

“Sniff, listen girls. The nice fireman told me that-t he and the other firemen-n found some belongings that weren’t burn-t –” Madame Mimi sniffed loudly and whimpered a bit here “– b-burnt. So fol-low the nice fireman and see if they found any-y of your belongings-s” pointed to a massive fireman who was walking through a sort of a path they made out of all the rubbish.

One by one, the ballerinas walked through the path to the pile of greyish belongings.

We bent down and began to look through the pile.

“Ohmigod Tarini, look what I found!! It’s that necklace that I wore to Swan Lake!!” Bethany squealed out while holding a greyish bead necklace.

“Bethy, Tarini!! Look, it’s that bottle of lotion I got, remember??” Georgia screamed out.

One by one, all the girls ended up finding something. Bethy already had a handful of things!

I hadn’t found anything yet! I looked deeper and deeper into the pile. Nothing. Argh.

At the bottom of the pile, there was a scrap of paper. It was burnt around the edges, but readable.

I opened it up and read:

love you. I am so sorry. He has my mom, and I

ave to try. I know it may not work. I am so very, ver

Sorry.

Don’t be angry with Alice and Jasper. If I get aw

From them it will be a miracle. Tell them thank y

Me. Alice especially, please.

nd please, please don’t come after him. That’s what

He wants, I think. I can’t bear it if anyone has to be hurt

ecause of me, especially you. Please, this is the onl

Thing I can ask of you now. For me.

I love you. Forgive me.

Bella

Some of the letters were burnt of, so it made no sense.

What was this? Who has who’s mom? Whose Alice and Jasper? Who’s Bella??

“Beth, check this out” I handed the paper to Beth. She read it quickly, and looked up from her glasses.

“Where’d you find this?” she asked.

“In the pile. Do you think it belongs to any of the ballerinas?” I asked.

“Don’t think so, it makes no sense, but maybe it’s cause some of the words are burnt off” she pointed out.

“What are you two talking about?” Georgia asked. I handed her the note. She read it and looked up with a curious expression.

“What is that all about?” she asked.

“That’s what we're trying to find out” I said, while taking the note back.

“Well, I guess this Bella person really loves the person this note is for” Beth sighed.

“Yea, probably”
