We continued down the hallway, descending the stairs at a rapid pace. He eventually picked me up, knowing I would probably trip at this speed. His family waited for us at the bottom.

My mind was everywhere at once. What were they going to do? What was I going to do? Would I be able to live without Edward if anything happened to him? I wasn't able to answer any of my questions before Alice spoke.

"I just had a vision that James was coming after Bella."

"Who's James? I'll punch him into the ground." Emmett spoke up and started to charge forward, but was stopped by Jasper's hand.

"Yeah, who is this guy?"

"It's another vampire, a tracker. He's a Spanish prince, who was supposed to marry Bella until I met her. King Charles broke the marriage off and now the tracker is angry. He was going to take both of the kingdoms for himself and risk revealing vampires to the world. He wants to take Bella away now." His speech was rushed as he continued on.

"I read his mind, this is one of his most exciting games yet. I saw this coming, I should have warned you all, I'm sorry."

"It's alright, Edward. No one blames you." Carlisle comforted him.

“Right. No one blames him, but now we’re all in trouble because of Bella.” Rosalie was right, it was my fault.

“Rosalie, it’s no one’s fault but James. Bella is a victim just like you.” I was starting to find out why Carlisle was the father figure of the family.

“We need to split up. I’ll take Bella toward Spain. I don’t think we’ll be able to get there soon if I were just running so I’ll let Bella rest over-night and the rest of you can follow James.” Edward looked over at Alice. She was having another vision.

“He’s bringing someone else. A female with red hair, I think they’re mates. But mates or not, she’s going to fight with him.” Her eyes were distant, probably still focused on her vision. There was another vampire. That meant more chance of someone getting hurt.

“Edward,” he looked at her almost in a pleading way, “you can’t stay with Bella. He knows you’d never leave her, it would be too easy. Jasper and I can take her; you help them find the tracker.”

“Rosalie, will you go change clothes with Bella, so the tracker will pick up her scent?” Edward’s voice was ambitious.

“Why should I? She’s nothing but a menace, a danger you chose to inflict on all of us.” I flinched at her words, but she was right again.

Edward just looked away from her, as if she wasn’t even there.

“Esme? Will you?”

“Of course,” Her voice was soothing and comfortable, especially when compared to Rosalie’s. Suddenly she was at my side, she picked me up and we were in another room, up the stairs before I could even gasp in shock.

“Take your dress off, and we’ll trade.” She ordered me in a diplomatic tone.

I did as she said, down to my garments, when she threw me her dress from wherever she was standing, I couldn’t tell because it was dark. I struggle finding the sleeves and hole for my head. As soon as I was done, she picked me up again, the dress, already too long and flowing on my frail body blowing everywhere. She gently set me down on my feet next to Edward again. Everyone seemed like they were ready, Emmet and Jasper held trunks in their hands, and everyone looked at me to see that I was prepared. Then they all disappeared.

I gasped but was soothed by Edward’s fingers brushing my lips.

“It’s alright. They just wanted to give us a little privacy before we left.” I saw the agony in his eyes, causing me even more sorrow than before.

He caught my hand in his, and I crushed my whole body to his stone chest. He brought his finger below my chin and lifted it up putting his lips to mine in an urgent way, too demanding to be sweet. Then it was over. His eyes smoldered before he spoke.

“I love you so much. Be safe.” Those words reminded me of the last day we had, and the night before he left. He told me to be safe.

“I love you, too. That’s why I don’t want you to go. I don’t want you to get hurt. I-“ He cut me off.

“I will keep you safe, and we’ll get married when I come back.” I would have to tell Charlie that, and suddenly it hit me.

“Charlie! I have to tell him I’m leaving.”

“No the castle is the first place the tracker will look for answers.”

“He’s my dad, I can’t just leave him!”

“Please, just let me take care of you-“ I was the one who cut him off this time.

“Edward. Please, do this for my sanity.” I started begging.

“What will you tell him?”

“I don’t know yet, but I can’t just leave him. You have to understand.”

“I do. Let’s go.”

His sudden change in mood startled me almost as much as him picking me up. We flew for only a few seconds again until we were at my castle wall; he jumped through my window, throwing me onto my bed. I looked down, thinking of an excuse to tell my dad.

“What should I say to Charlie? I can’t hurt him.” The thought was jumbling up my thoughts. He had been with me through everything, my mother’s death and growing up. He had given me a chance to find true love.

“You just have to.” He was right. There wasn’t another way.

“I’ll get your things together and meet you back here.”

I stood up and made my way to the door, beginning the long walk to my father’s room again. I fought back tears the whole way, knowing that I would have to hurt a man that gave me more than I had ever deserved. A plan started forming in my head, the best way I could think to get out.

I slammed the door open, trying to be angry.

“Bella?” his head turned at the loud noise, “What’s wrong?”

“I just-I need to get out of here. I wanted to tell you first so you didn’t send anyone after me.” I didn’t make eye contact. I knew if I did, my whole plan would disintegrate

“Why? What happened at Edward’s home?”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” Those words were true in so many ways.

“Did he break it off with you?” Concern etched in his voice, along with anger.

“No. I broke it off with him.”

“Bella, its okay. We can talk through this. There’s no need to storm out.”

“No, dad. I need to just have some time to myself. I’ll be back soon.”

“We can lengthen the time for you to find someone, Bells. Please, just stay.” For once I wished he wasn’t this caring, that he would just let me go.

“No, or I’ll just end up alone, like you. You don’t want that to happen, do you?” We would have become alone in very different ways, but what I hinted at did what it needed to do. I pierced right into his skin.

I didn’t let him reply, I just stalked out, expecting to making a clean break. Hopefully it would heal once I came back, or if I came back.

Edward was already waiting in the hallway, carrying a trunk full of my things.

“He will forgive you.”

“No he won’t. You didn’t see his face.” It was tortured.

Edward’s brisk pace led us back to my room quickly where he bent down slightly, allowing me to grasp onto his neck. He cradled me with one arm, using the other to carry my things. I let two tears slide down my face. One for hurting Charlie, and the other knowing that this could be the last time I saw Edward.

He set me down, holding my face in his hands. His eyes smoldered, and I couldn’t help that even more tears fell down my cheeks, for once not stained red.

“I promise to keep you safe. You are my life now.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too Bella. Take care of her.” He directed the last part to Alice who nodded in reply.

Alice took my arm, and eventually picked me up. She began running, with Jasper at her side. The speed didn’t bother me, nothing could at this moment. I let sleep overwhelm me, welcoming the darkness. A temporary escape from my nightmare.
