I took off my shoes to hoping to not make any sounds, and also helping me with my own footing. I tiptoed to my room, safely making it there without any detection. I was about to open my door when I suddenly heard footsteps come up behind me.

I had half expected it to be James, the Prince, but found it to only be a worried Charlie.

"Oh. Hi, dad." I said lamely.

"Hi, Bells. Good to see your safe." He looked down, I guessed not knowing what to say anymore.

"Yep. Dad," His eyes shot up to meet mine, "I think I met the person I want to marry." A light smile brushed over his face in amusement.

"So that's why you've been disappearing on me," He looked down again, "I'm guessing its not the Spanish Prince?" I expected him to be more angry.

"No. His name is Edward Cullen. He doesn't live too far from here."

"Do I get to meet the lucky boy?"

"Umm, sure. At the ball."

"Alright, Bells. I'm glad you finally met someone. Uh. Goodnight." He turned around.

"Night, Dad." I took a deep breath and opened the door to my room. I was nowhere near ready for the statue of a greek god on my bed. He turned his head and smiled up at me.

"Hello." His smooth voice sent chills up my spine.

"Hi." I looked around not knowing what to do.

"Maybe I should let you get into your nightgown first."

"Yes, that would be the best idea."

"Alright, I'll be back." And he was gone again, leaving a slight void that I hadn't noticed until I had met him.

I threw on my nightgown and brushed through my hair once before sliding into my bed. I waited for Edward all but a minute.

"I'm back." He came and sat down next to me and I snuggled into his side; hard but comfortable.

"I don't think I'll be able to sleep with you here." He would make me too nervous.

"And why's that?"

"Well, you make me nervous. And I talk in my sleep. I don't want you to hear the things I say." His musical laugh filled the room at the volume of a whisper.

"Trust me. I've already heard that."

"What are you talking about?" I whipped my head around to look at him.

"I came here last night."

"You were in here?"

"Well, no, but I was just outside your window. And as a vampire, I have impeccable hearing." That made me nervous.

"Is there anything else I should know?"

"No, you know what you need to." That meant he was leaving stuff out to protect me. Was he just my big guardian? Actually he was more like a guardian angel.

"Why don't you want me to know anything else. I do want to be with you forever, and maybe even..." I trailed off, hoping that he would tell me what I wanted.

"I want to be with you forever too, but I love you too much to just let you throw away your soul for a monster." His eyes were anguished. He must love me.

"How would I be throwing away my soul? See, these are important things to tell me, so I can contemplate them."

"Bella, this isn't the right time."

"Well, we can't wait forever with the wedding soon and James waiting in the wings." That hit a nerve and his face turned to repulsion.

"He won't be anywhere near you."

"How can you know that? You can't be with me all the time. Someone might notice. Like Charlie."

"Yes, but I am a vampire. I could be with you and you wouldn't even know it." He turned toward me, "You should be bothered by that."

"And it doesn't." I would follow him wherever he went.

"I can't stand it. What are you thinking?"

"Just that I would do anything for you."

"You need to re-prioritize." His voice was reprimanding. "And you should really sleep, the sun will be up in about an hour."

"Really? I didn't know it was that late."

"Well, now you do. Sleep, love." He kissed my forehead and I settled in for a peaceful few hours sleep.

When I woke up, it was abrupt. I had been dreaming of my Edward again, but I had to get up. I was relieved when I opened my eyes and saw that he was still there and everything that happened yesterday wasn't just a part of my elaborate dreams.

"Good morning." He looked down at me. I must have been a mess.

"Morning. I'll just go get dressed."

"Take your time." He was awful cheery, I wondered why.

Once I had one of my more simple dresses on, blue and not poofy, I walked out from my wardrobe.

Edward stood and strolled over to me with so much grace my knees almost gave out. "That color is simply beautiful on you." His voice hypnotized me.

"Thanks." My eyes were closed.

"Are you alright?" I opened them in one quick movement, quick for a human.

"Yes, wonderful. And you seem very happy today, too." I inquired.

"Yes," He gave a little laugh, "I suppose I am."

"And why would that be?"

"You said my name."

"When?" Uh-oh.

"In your sleep. Actually you said more than that. You said 'I love you Edward.'"

"Haven't I already told you that?"

"Yes, but it's nice to hear anyway."

"Then you already got yours for the day, and you won't..." He let out a breath and gazed at me through his dark lashes, making me lose my train of thought.

"Won't what, Bella?"

"Umm, I can't remember. It's not fair to me that you can dazzle me, and I can't remember anything."

"What term did you just use for that?"

"I had never thought of that before."

"Well, you do it practically every other moment." One minute I can be coherent, and then I look into his eyes and all I can remember is him.

"I'm sorry." A crooked smile, my smile, graced his lips. I forgot everything.

"I give up!"

"What do you mean?"

"See you even do it without thinking. It's not fair!"

"I'm a vampire. We're created like this. We attract and kill." His eyes showed the slightest bit of regret. I was about to ask him more about the subject but he interrupted me. "I have to leave."

"Where are you going?"

"On an extended hunting trip, with my family."

"I'd like to see you hunt."

"No!" He said too loudly. "Bella, we let ourselves go when we're hunting, our instincts take over and nothing else matters. I could hurt you." He took my hand.

"I understand." I said looking down. He used his other hand to lift up my chin so I had to look at him.

"I love you too much, Bella."

"I love you, too." I could never express how much.

"But, before I leave I want to just try one thing." He leaned in slightly, closing his eyes. "Don't move."

That was the most ridiculous request he had made. It took everything I had not to shoot into the kiss, but his way made it more tender.

He was slowly moving in, and eventually our lips touched. The jolt of electricity that went through us was amazing, along with the need that I for him. Before I knew it, it was over. I opened my eyes.

"Good-bye, Edward."

"You have to promise not to hurt yourself while I'm gone, is that clear?"

"I'll be back in a week." He slid out the window, and the void came back to my heart, taking it almost completely. A week without Edward. This would be torture.

I went to go sit on my bed and saw a slip of paper sitting in the middle.

Be safe.

That was all he had to say, and I would stay away from anything dangerous. For my Edward.
