"Where are we going?"

"You do need to eat," he said.

"As in...blood?"

"Yes. Then we need to sort out your sleeping arrangements"

"I need a freezer because I'm like you"

"Yes"

"Josef, why are you being so...distant?"

"I turned you into a monster"

"Someone would have done it. I'm glad it was you"

"Me too"

"Now what?"

"Aro is going to call a meeting of the vampire elders. They're like a bunch of vampires who each control a certain part of the world. The Volturi are the entire two continents of America. So, I can only assume he'll bring them here and have you kill any who don't agree. Which I can imagine will be all of them at the beginning and then very few after you've dealt with one group"

"Group?"

"They always come protected" he said grimly.

"But I don't feel different! Not more powerful or anything apart from the feeling of being a vampire I'm assuming"

"What's that like?"

"I feel...strong. What can we do?"

"Don't they teach you that stuff at school?"

"We were never taught that there was more then one species of vampire. So what can our species do?" without waiting for a reply, I laughed.

"Huh?"

"Our species. It sounds...strange coming from me"

"You'll get used to it. As for what we can do, we are strong and fast like the others but not so fast, we disappear when we run. We can smell the past, glimpse the future and all our senses are incredibly heightened. We can't eat no taste and no way to digest it. We can still drink alcohol but we can't get drunk"

"Damn! I was looking forward to doing that!" he smiled wanly.

"So, we still need to sleep. We don't give off body heat and we can do this cool jumping thing, and jump incredibly high. We can't be out in sunlight for more then a few hours and if we're in trouble, we need blood. Survival instinct. We can be killed by beheading or fire. Silver and a stake will paralyze us. And silver is also like poison to us. So silver buckshot is particularly nasty, but no one uses that anymore because it's illegal. If we get stabbed or cut, our skin heals. And if we get shot we can leave the bullet in"

"But, humans aren't allowed to attack us anymore?"

"No. but there are still rebels" we left the building and I instinctively inhaled. Fresh blood on the air.

"Go," said Josef "Find it. It's what you must do" I followed my nose and discovered a bear feeding on a deer. The deer was already dead, it's blood spattered around the ground and on the bear's muzzle. I didn't bother attacking it. I leapt on the bear.

"No!" said Josef. I snarled at him.

"You can't have bear blood. It's unadvisable to drink from creatures other then humans"

"You didn't tell me before because?"

"I didn't know it would be an animal"

"Josef, you can smell it. I know" I turned my head back to the bear who was snarling beneath me. Josef snarled and I turned back.

"We'll find you a human. It must be human for the first feed, or you won't get over the blood lust!" he told me. He reached out a hand, which I ignored.

"Kat. Now" he ordered. I snarled and looked back at the bear, whose neck I was breaking. Then I saw my reflection mirrored in the bear's glassy eyes. My mouth was twisted into a feral snarl, with long distended fangs that came to a lethal point. My eyes were wild and without reason. They were a pale blue, so blue it was almost white with deep black pupils. I froze and stood up. Josef tensed, obviously wondering if I'd decided to attack him.

"I'm sorry Josef. I don't know what I was thinking"

"It wasn't you. It was the bloodlust," he said. I nodded and followed him to find more appetizing meals.
