When I'd eaten, I was suddenly exhausted. Josef told me to go back to the castle. I was too tired to argue. As we walked back in silence, a figure emerged from the trees.

"Hey Kat. Welcome to the land of the undead" it was Edward. I snarled at him and walked past.

"I was talking to you"

"Yes and she was clearly ignoring you" added Josef.

"Kostan. Just keep your mouth shut," he said. I turned and said, "Go away. You kidnapped me in the middle of the night and turned me into a vampire. I had other plans you know. And if you really wanted me to, you could have at least asked" I said before walking off again.

"Well I really came out to say that you need to get some sleep because there are people coming tomorrow"

"How exactly am I supposed to sleep? I am a frickin' monster thanks to you lot!" I snapped.

"Just close your eyes and pretend it's all a bad dream. That's how I get by," said Edward. He grinned and walked off.

"I am so tired of pretending that I don't know anything" I said, sitting down "And I'm exhausted"

"I know. Come on. Let's get you home"

"It's not home and it never will be," I muttered.

"Come on Kat. Relax. Life's too short"

"Not for us"

"No, even for us. You think you have eternity but when it really matters you run out of time"

"It doesn't matter right now," I said.

"Don't say that. As long as you are alive, it will matter. To me" he said with a sense of urgency. I tried to smile but I couldn't. Josef escorted me back to my room. A freezer was in place already and I sighed. There really was no way back and that fact was beginning to fully dawn on me and fill me with a sense of hopelessness. When Josef left, I ignored the freezer and curled up on my sofa. I would not accept that I was a vampire. I laughed. I'd fed on blood okay but I refused to sleep in the proper accommodation? I sighed and shut my eyes.

The next morning arrived. No, I didn't give in and sleep in the freezer. Yes, I was awake the entire night.

"Get dressed," said Edward. I jumped.

"How long have you been there?"

"Most of the night"

"So much for super sonic vampire hearing" I muttered.

"Alice has got some clothes for you. Then she'll escort you to the chamber. The gathering has started and your presence is required" Alice appeared. She was smiling. I glared at her. How could she still act like my friend? She handed me an old-fashioned dress. It was red with a black middle and incredibly long sleeves.

"Put it on! I have shoes too"

"The world cannot be fixed by shoes"

"I disagree" smiled Alice. She pointed at a screen that had been placed in my room.

"What is this, medieval times?"

"Just get changed! We need to hurry" I changed quickly despite my feelings and Alice impatiently escorted me down the hall.

"So, you said you had an announcement Aro?"

"Yes. You see...I'm taking over the world" there was laughter.

"You cannot be serious!"

"Oh but I am" I knocked on the door. It swung open.

"And this is the person who will help me" the crowd turned to face me, a sea of red eyes and pale faces. Aro appeared beside me

"That girl? She is a newborn! I can smell her from here. She is just another vampire. I refuse to believe you Aro. Guards! Seize him...and her"

"I wouldn't do that" the vampire who has spoken out approached us.

"Aro. I refuse to believe that that...girl...can harm us" he reached out a hand to me.

"You don't have to be hurt. Just take my hand" he held out his hand to me. I glanced at Aro. He nodded.

"The last think I want is to take a child's life" I took the vampire's hand uncertainly. He froze. Then he was thrown back across the room. His guard rushed to protect him but when they got to him, his body was bubbling and fizzing. Aro laughed as the vampire's body dissolved into a puddle.

"Is there anyone else who refuses to obey me?" no one answered. I looked at my hands. I wanted to run but I knew I couldn't. I was stuck beside Aro...forever.
