The vampires arrived within a day. They assembled in the largest hall. I switched off the signal and stood in the room. If I merely appeared, they'd laugh, and then panic when I dissolved on of them. So instead, I turned on the microphone.

"Friends! Aro sought to control our lands! But he is gone and now we can be free! We must eradicate the Volturi!" I could hear noises of agreement.

"To do this we need to be stronger! Some have formidable gifts! I have the ability to grant a vampire extra power but I don't have enough for all. So to grant all vampires this privilege, I request you all hold hands" there was a bit of startled noise and laughter.

"If you wish to remain the strongest species, you will hold hands!" I said, more forcefully. I flicked on the camera. They all had.

"Close your eyes" a few did but not many.

"If you don't, when I come to grant you your power, you will die for eternity" I filled my voice with sadness. More people did until all of them had eyes screwed shut. I snuck out and over to the front vampire. I took his hand and he smiled. Then he screamed a high-pitched scream as my power ate through him. People opened their eyes and let go of each other. I knew I wouldn't be able to stop them all.

So I ran. I had a plan B but I did it with regret. I managed to escape from the hall and ran to the front doors. I slammed them shut and bolted them. I heard bangs but these doors were made to withstand vampire attacks. I pulled the can of petrol out from bag that I'd filled earlier.

I pulled the matchbox from my pocket and struck one. I held it in front of me, preparing to drop it on the can and start the fire. The match burnt down to my finger. I struck another and held it before me. Once again, it burnt down, singing my fingers. I couldn't kill them. I wasn't a killer. But I had too. I put the can down and lit a third match. I stared at the flickering flame.

"Kat! Just light the fire!" called a voice. I turned and saw Josef running towards me. The match slipped from my fingers. I didn't notice.

"KAT! RUN!" he shouted. I looked at me hand, saw the match was no longer there. I looked down. It was like everything moved in slow motion. I saw the match falling to the ground. I saw it bounce on the grass, and land on the can. I saw the fire blossom like a flower. The flame inched along the ground towards me. The can started to smoke and then the flame grew.

I turned. I could see Josef speaking but I couldn't hear the words. The then flames grew. They shot up until a wall of fire surrounded me. I couldn't breathe. The smoke curled around me, encircling me like an arm wrapping around me. I coughed.

"KAT! RUN!" shouted Josef again. Time resumed its normal speed. I could hear again. I was burning. Then I was aware of cool, strong arms tugging at me, pulling me from my fiery tomb. I collapsed into his arm.

"Josef" I managed to say.

"Kat. You're safe"

"Josef" I croaked.

"Shh...save your strength"

"I love you"

"I love you too"

"Will you stay with me?"

"Yes. You'll be fine. We'll stay together for ever" I lolled in his arms as he carried me away from the burning building. I glanced behind me at the flames. I could hear the cries of the burning. There was nothing left for them. The world belonged to the humans once more. That was the way it should be.
