The building was massive. A mansion. But it was sinister at the same time as being beautiful. My vampire escort opened the door. I noticed that Jasper and Edward were already outside, letting the sunlight reflect off them. Jasper had honey-blonde hair and was tall and muscled. Edward was boyish, with bronze hair. They both had golden eyes, which confused me. Vampires had red eyes.

“Vegetarian diet” Edward said. I rolled my eyes. Well, at least one thing would come out of me being a snack. I wouldn’t have to be annoyed at him for very long. I was also confused about something else. Vampires were normally imperious. We were their slaves, their pets, their food, never their friends. Please don’t answer that! I begged Edward mentally. I didn’t really want to know why vampires were mean. We entered the building. It was cooler inside and I shivered. A small, dark haired vampire with the same golden eyes ran over to Jasper and hugged him.

“Hello Alice” said Edward. The girl smiled.

“Edward” she said it in a wind chime voice. The vampire I had first met took my hand and led me further into the building. It got colder and darker. I wanted to run, to escape, but the vampires would easily catch up with me. We went down stone steps and came out in a large round room. The walls were wooden paneled and had a domed glass roof.

“Ah! You found her!” said a musical voice. A man glided over. His skin was pale yet it looked nearly transparent.

“Yes, Aro, I found her” he said. I was confused; they had said that I was a random choice.

“Hello Miss Brooks. I don’t suppose you remember me?” I shook my head.

“The human mind is like a sieve! Can’t remember anything!” he tutted. My eyes flicked around the room. About twenty vampires and two humans. I wondered what they were there for. Lunch probably.

“Hmm. I would have thought that it would have been a very strong memory. I mean, only survivor and all that”

“Um. Why am I here?” I asked. The fear leaked into my voice.

“Ah! You will just have to wait and see!” he said. Well, he seemed happy anyway. I was glad someone was.

“In the meantime, Josef, can you look after her?”

“Sure” said a vampire. He took my wrist.

“Oh. And my name’s not Brooks. It’s Turner,” I said, quickly. He raised an eyebrow. I blushed, not smart considering my position.

“Okay then, Miss Turner. Josef, take her away” the vampire leading me away was tall, with spiky dark brown hair, almost black, and golden brown eyes. He was dressed in a shirt, black jacket and jeans. I couldn’t help staring. I mean, the other vampires had red eyes or golden. His were definitely more brown then gold.

“You can ask, if you want”

“I didn’t want to seem rude”

“I never said I’d answer. Just said that you could ask”

“Oh. Why are your eyes like that?”

“I’m a different type of vampire”

“I thought you weren’t going to answer”

“You know, some vampires think that humans should be eaten and not heard” I shut up. We reached a room that was quite decorative but still, had the feeling of a prison. Even more then the institute.

“Well. I’ll leave you here. Aro will probably send someone to collect you later” I watched him leave.
