Charlie’s POV

‘Bella? Where are you?’

We were all searching. She was nowhere to find. I was beginning to panic now. What if we didn’t find her? I would be devastated.

My only daughter, mauled by a bear.

My only daughter, lost in the woods.

My only daughter, missing, dead of starvation

All the different scenarios played in my mind, only to be halted when I stumbled upon something. A body, covered in blood.

A girl. My girl. My Bella.

I woke with a start. I almost jumped out of my skin. What a horrible dream. I shook it off and made my way to the shower.

I let the hot water run down my skin, soothing my aching muscles. All this stress wasn’t good for me. I’ll end up with a heart-attack like Harry Clearwater. Who knows how many that mans had.

The water turned cold, and I instantly felt bad I took all the warm water from Bella. If she even gets up today.

Stop it! I will not think like that! She is my daughter and I love her. Nothing bad is going to happen to her. She WILL get better, even if I have to send her to Florida with Renee.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold the phone for a second there Mister. Florida ? I can’t seriously send Bella to Florida . I just got her back.

But what if it’s what’s best for her. Like you said, she’s your daughter and you love her. Would you send her to Jacksonville if it meant she would get better?

If it’s what’s best for her! But she’s I think I know what’s best for my daughter.

Ok, that’s it Charlie. No more internal dialogue. It’s creeping me out.

I sighed as I made my way to the bedroom. I pulled my uniform out and started to get dressed. I just needed to get out of this house. I needed to keep my mind focused on something other than Bella.

Yeah, let Bella work it out. Like you said, she just needs time.

So your going to abandon you daughter in her time of need?

I’m not abandoning her. I’m letting her sort through her stuff on her own.

Sure, whatever helps you sleep through the night.

I walked out of my room and down the hall. I might as well check on Bella before I leave.

I opened the door and peeked my head in. She was still in the same fetal position in the middle of the bed.

“Bells? I’m gonna head out. The station needs me today, so… If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call, OK?” No response. I heaved a big sigh as I backed out of the door.

As I pulled into the parking lot of the station, I knew what I had to do. I walked through the doors and headed straight to my desk. A few people made some comments, asked questions but I just ignored them. I was determined.

I stormed into my office and headed for the phone. Picking up the phone, I dialed. After three calls, she finally answered.

“What do you want Charlie?” she spat at me.

“It’s Bella”
