“Did I invite this on myself?”
Jeff had called me three times to confirm our date on Sunday morning. He showed up, like, forty-five minutes early and I was hardly ready.
“Come in and have a seat. I’ll be ready shortly.” I said when I answered the door. Dezzy was at the Cullens' again, so she wouldn’t get a chance to scare him.
“Okay, take your time.” I returned his smile and turned to head back up the stairs. What he did next didn’t sit well with me. He reached his hand out and smacked my butt. I gritted my teeth but did not speak.
“You know you guys have to leave when I do.” I said to Quil and Seth when I was back in my room.
“We know you have a hot date with a boy from school.” Quil teased.
“I only said yes because I didn’t know what else to say. Now go sit downstairs so I can get dressed. Better yet, leave out the kitchen door.” I said pushing them towards the door.
“What don’t want your boyfriend to know about us?” Seth jumped in on Quil’s teasing.
“Not that, I think you might make the poor boy piss in his pants.” I laughed “Look at you two. I would be scared if I didn’t know you both were just big teddy bears.”
“That insults us. We are vicious werewolves.” Quil smiled impishly.
“Yep, the scariest.” I rolled my eyes “Now go! I have to change. I’ll call you when I get home if you're not out playing guard wolf.”
“Okay, I still think we should be able to go.” Seth grumbled
“If you went it wouldn’t be a date would it?” I asked pushing them more towards the stairs.
“I think that’s the point.” Quil said.
“Good bye boys.” I closed my door in their face.
Going to my closet, I started digging through it looking for anything that a girl was supposed to wear on a date. I finally decided that a pair of jeans would have to do with a purple silk blouse that Dezzy had bought me that still had the tags on it.
I quickly dressed and pulled my hair into a pony tail. Then ran down the stairs.
“Okay I’m ready.” I said as I entered.
Jeff stood and smiled. “You look very pretty.”
“Thanks. Lets go. What movie are we watching?” I asked as he led me out the door his hand on my waist. It was not unpleasant, it was just weird. I never really thought I would go on a date with a jock for that matter, some drone that worried what the masses thought.
“There is this really awesome monster movie out called Dark forest.” he answered happily as we got in the car.
“Cool beans.” Good he won’t expect me to swoon into his arms… oh damn probably thinks I’m gonna scream and hide my face in his chest or some other girly thing.
“You like scary movies?”
“Sure, everyone likes to be scared.”
We talked pleasantly the whole ride there, and while we waited to pay for our tickets.
When we got into the theater and it was dark Jeff slyly slipped his arm around the back of my chair. That didn’t bother me I placed the popcorn in my lap and put my feet up on the seat in front of me.
There was plenty of blood and killing in the film, The vampires were so far from the truth it made me smile. I did cringe away once when a werewolf changed and killed his date.
“That wasn’t cool.” I whispered wrinkling my nose.
“Don’t worry honey I won’t change into a werewolf and kill you.” Jeff snickered before putting his hand on my shoulder and pulling me closer.
I allowed this. I was, after all, on a date with him.
We walked hand in hand down the sidewalk to the fast food restaurant that we were going to eat at. He paid for my food and we ate, talking about the movie. Our ride home was similar to the ride up.
“So did you have fun?” Jeff asked as he walked me to my front door.
“Sure.” I said as I turned to put my key in the door. I turned to say goodnight and he pulled me to him and went to kiss me, his hand firmly on my buttocks.
I moved my head so that he kissed my cheek. “I had fun, see you tomorrow.” I pulled my self out of his arms and rushed into the house.
“Hey K, how was your date?” Dezzy’s voice came from the living room.
“It was okay I guess. He tried to kiss me and put his hand on my butt.” I walked into the living room and kicked my shoes off.
“Ooo can he kiss?” she said giggling.
“Like I said he tried. I turned my head and he got the cheek. Jeff is confident but I don’t know if I like him like that yet.”
“Well go on a few more dates with him, and then kiss him.” She offered.
“Maybe I will.” I said and turned and walked into my room.
I picked up the phone on my bedside table and dialed Quil. He answered after a few rings.
“What’s up goober?” I said happily
“Hey your back early from your hot date.” He laughed
“Dude, it’s a school night and I do need my beauty rest.” I joined in his laughter. “So are you and Seth coming over or what?”
“Maybe. Do we have to listen to your whiny rock music?”
“Very funny. Bring your own music if you don’t like my selection.”
“Sure, and we can play video games all night.”
“I just said I have school. Don’t you?”
“So. Anyway how did your hot date go?”
“We watched a monster movie and ate McDonald’s. I guess it went okay until he tried to kiss me and he really needs to learn to keep his hands to himself.”
“Really and did you let him?”
“Since when did you become my girlfriend? That is gossip for girls.” I snapped.
“That’s cold hearted.”
“Bring your own food when you come over. I’m sick of you eating all mine.” I spat before I hung up.
I sat on my bed for a few minutes before I stood up. Pulling the band out of my hair, I fling my head from side to side and rubbed my scalp. I pulled the blouse off and then noticed out my window a large figure in the dark. I rolled my eyes and wondered why the boys had come in wolf form. I put the blouse in front of me and threw my window open.
“Are you going to stay out there all night or are you going to come up?” I yelled.
“Who are you yelling at?” Dezzy asked from my door way.
“Oh, the boys are out there creeping in the dark.” I said pushing my window shut and grabbing a t-shirt out of the dresser.
“Oh, Quil and Seth are coming back over?”
“That’s the plan.”
“Well I have a shift at the hospital I’ll be home tomorrow.” she came to me hugged me and left swiftly.
“Ummm… K, you have company.” Dezzy yelled from the front door.
I rolled my eyes and ran down the stair. “Why did you bother knocking I knew…” I stopped on the last step when I noticed it wasn’t Quil and Seth at my door. “Embry, why are you here?”
“I’m not sure.”
“Oh well you might as well come in Quil and Seth will be here soon enough, one more can’t hurt.” I pointed up the stairs “we can wait in my room they’ll just walk in anyways.”
“You let many strangers walk in your house?” he asked looking more concerned than he really should.
“They may be strange but their not strangers.” I smiled and turned back up the stairs.
We sat in awkward silence for several minutes before my bedroom door swung open.
“We so could have robbed you.” Seth said happily
“Oh, yes you’re just an Indian out law.”
They laughed and stretched out on my floor.
“Hey Embry didn’t expect to see you here.” Quil said with his normal impish smile.
“I could say the same about you two.” Embry grumbled
Quil threw me a stack of cd’s. I looked through them quickly. “Country?” my brow came up in question.
“I listened to your music you said I could bring my own music.”
“Fine.” I pulled all my cd’s out and replaced them with his. “And you say my music is whiny.” I pushed play and started the radio on shuffle.
I turned on my playstation for the boys and started pulling my pajamas out of my dresser.
I walked out of the room and changed in the bathroom. I came back, my hair in a loose bun.
There was a song on that I actually knew, so I started singing along with it and dancing. I looked stupid so the boys started to laugh.
“I never said I could dance. I have no rhythm.” I said pulling Seth to me and making him dance with me.
He laughed and dipped me. “I think you’re a wonderful dancer.”
“Such a sweetheart, but you lie.” I let him twirl me around
“Do I get the next dance?” Quil asked
“Sure. Are you going to teach me to do the electric slide?”
“You’re on if you think you can get my two left feet to work.” I hit Seth’s chest and started to fall. Two large hands grabbed my arms and stopped me inches before I hit the floor. I put my head back and saw Embry with his hands under me. “Thanks.” I gave him a big goofy smile.
“Yep.” he put me back on my feet and sat back on the window seal.
Quil took his turn trying to teach me to dance and failed miserably. We finally settled into playing a game. I sat on the end of my bed with my feet on Seth’s back.
“It is so sad that you are getting whooped by a girl.” I pushed Seth with my feet I was beating him at a fighting game.
“You cheat.” he said defensively.
“Right.” I retorted
“I bet I could beat you.” That was the first time Embry had said more than one or two words.
“You better bring a lunch wolf boy. I’m here to kick ass and chew bubble gum and I’m fresh out of bubble gum.” I laughed.
“Hand over the controller junior.” Embry said, putting his hand out to Seth.
“Let me at least lose.” Seth grumbled
I killed him quickly “You’re dead, now give it to him. I want to school him.”
Embry took the controller and I quickly beat him. “I guess I have been served.” he said laughing. He had a look on his face that said he didn’t give it his all.
“Did you let me win?” I was shocked.
“What if I did?”
“I want a rematch.” I yelled
“Some other time. I think it’s time we left.” He gave the other two a look and they got up.
“Yeah, we should get home.” Quil said stretching
“Night, K.” Seth said as they walked out the door.
This was an every night thing for Quil and Seth to come over. We would eat listen to music, wrestle, well the two of them would wrestle, play video games, or watch old movies on TV and make fun of them.
Jeff and I had made a date night of every Saturday. I still hadn’t kissed him by our fourth date, and I figured that it was time to do it or stop leading the poor guy on. I liked him well enough so when he dropped me off one Saturday I decided I would let him kiss me.
“I had fun tonight.” I said
“I always have fun with you.” Jeff smiled and reached for me pulling me in his arms. Again his hand fell to my butt.
I closed my eyes and waited for his lips to touch mine. I heard a growl and I was roughly pulled away and through my front door.
