Victoria stood in the threshold, her flame coloured hair was swept behind her.

“Victoria will be staying with us for a little while” I closed my eyes, hoping that this was all some horrible piece of my imagination. But it wasn’t. When I opened my eyes, she was still standing there. Menacing, to the extreme.

“Can you escort her upstairs?” Laurent asked. I wanted to run out of the house screaming but that wasn’t an option.

“Of course sir. Which room?”

“Just take her up and let her pick,” he said. I led Victoria up the stairs and gestured to the rooms.

“This one” she said, going into my room.

“But…”

“No buts. Laurent told you to give me whichever room I wanted. I want this one. What do you say?”

“Yes ma’am” I said, meekly. I had already worked out, this was to punish me. She didn’t need a bedroom and this left me with the kitchen or going in to join Laurent so he could establish his authority to me. I shuddered to think about it. I plumped for the kitchen. I would sleep on cold hard floors for years rather then join him.

“So Bella. I trust you kept to the rules today?” he asked me, smiling slightly. I said nothing and went into the kitchen.

I slept in the kitchen, with the oven turned on low. I heard Victoria and Laurent laughing in the other room, plotting I was sure. The next morning Laurent announced he was going away for a bit. And Victoria was staying with me. There was no word rude enough to sum up how I felt. I started to school. I was going to use my car, just to get out of there quickly.

“Where are you going?”

“School miss”

“Get away from that car. I’m selling it today to get some new jewellery,” she said. I stared. Then I started walking. From the look in her eyes, this was only the start.

The day was worse. Edward still tried to talk to me, and I was forced to ignore him. And it was worse because it ended too quickly. I didn’t know what to expect when I got home. But home eventually loomed in front of me. I opened the door and looked around anxiously. There was no one around. I took a step forward…and the blow knocked me off my feet. Victoria stood above me and hit me repeatedly. Then she stopped and walked off. I limped up to the bathroom. I was covered in bruises and faint scars. Luckily, I wasn’t bleeding. I snuck into my bedroom and lay on my stomach. Underneath a loose floorboard was my box. It contained the last few moments of my life. I opened it and felt tears well up as I gazed at them. Then I sealed it away. I didn’t want her to find it.

“BELLA!” she called. I trudged down the stairs, only to receive more punches and kicks. I tried not to cry, to bear it all. For Renee, for Charlie. I would go on. Even if it killed me.
