"So take a good look at my face, you'll see my smile looks out of place. If you look closer it's easy to trace the trcks of my tears."

Just then the last two kids parents arrived to pick them up.

“Well,” she said as she stood up, “I better call Jake and tell him I' about to leave and go meet up with him.”

“Yeah, I'll go and get the game system together.”

As I unplugged everything I couldn't help over hearing her conversation.

Jake?

I'm about to leave to meet up with you. Where are we going to eat?

Oh..ok

She sounded so sad.

If that dog is braking her heart I'll break his face!, I thought.

No, that's fine, I'll just stop at Burger King or something on my way home.

Have fun.

I love you too.

Bye.

She sat back in her chair and took a deep breath.

“Something wrong?” I asked as I walked over and sat next to her.

“No, I'm fine.” she replied almost in tears.

“It doesn't sound like it.”

“It's just... Jacob canceled our dinner and movie to go and hang out with the guys again.”

Suddenly I had a great idea.

“Well I'll take you to dinner?” I responded with a smile.

“You don't have to do that.” she answered.

“I want to, besides there is no way I'm letting you put that trash Burger King in to your body. I'll even throw in a movie.”

She seemed to be debating.

“Why not.” she finally answered.

“Let me finish getting the stuff together and we'll get out of here.” I answered, elated.

“Ok.” she replied with a smile.

Once I was finished we made our way outside.

“So where are we going for dinner?” she asked.

I honestly hadn't thought about ti, it wasn't like I ate human food so it really didn't cross my mind too much.

“I don't know, what do you want to eat?” I answered.

“Chinese?”

“Chinese it is then.”

“Great I know the perfect place.” she responded.

“Ok I'll take my car and follow you.”

“Perfect.”

I got into my car and pulled around to the front of the building where she was parked. I watched her back out and followed her for about fifteen minuets, till we reached a restaurant called The Golden Palace. We made sure to park next to each other and I met her around the other side of my car.

“Have you ever been here before?” she asked as we started walk towards the entrance.

“No, but I've heard of it.” I answered.

“You'll love, they have the best Chinese food.” she said as we walked into the entrance doors.

There was a hostess waiting to greet us.

“Hi,” She said, “Welcome to the Golden Palace.” she said.

“Hi,” I answered.

Wow, he's gorgeous, what a lucky girl. She thought.

I smiled at the idea that she obviously thought Bella and I were a couple.

“Table for two?” she asked.

“Yes,” I replied.

“Right this way.” she answered before leading us to our table.

“Thank you.” Bella said to the hostess.

“Your welcome. The waitress will be right with you guys.” she said before leaving Bella and I to be alone.

“I hope me leaving that note in your locker yesterday wasn't too inappropriate or anything.” Bella said, a little flushed that she thought I might think less of her.

“Bella, your anything but inappropriate.” I replied to reassure her, that I didn't mind.

If she only knew how inappropriate my dream about her thenight was, she'd know that.

“Thanks, I told Jacob you wouldn't think that.” she replied.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, last night after we hung up he asked who I was on the phone with. When I told him you, he wanted to know how we got one another's number and I told him.”

She looked down at the table before continuing.

“He wasn't very happy about it.”

I figured that.

“Well you tell him for me that I didn't think it was inappropriate at all, and that you are your own woman and you can give your number to whoever you so chose.”

“Please don't tell him I told you, I don't want to make him more angry with me than he already was.”

She was making it sound like he was abusing her.

“Bella is he abusing you?” I asked flat out. If the answer was yes I was gonna hunt him lake the dog he was and rip him apart.

“No!” she answered defensively, “He just fusses about whatever made him mad and he never lets it go. He holds grudges.”

“Well it sounds to me like Jakey boy is jealous.” I replied.

“Sometimes, I think he is.”

We were both silent when the waitress showed up.

“Hi, I'm Kelly I'll be your waitress for tonight. What can I get you guys?”

“Bella, you order.” I replied trying to buy myself some time.

Although I was a vampire, I could still eat human food, however it tasted like crap to us. But I couldn't not order anything because she'd find that a little strange if we ever go to dinner again and I never order anything.

Christ what wont I do for this woman? I said to myself.

“I'll have the shrimp and lobster sauce, and a coke please.” Bella said.

“Ok,” The waitress replied writing down the order, “And for you sir.”

“I'll have the same.” I answered.

“Ok, I ll be right out with your drinks.” she replied before walking away.

“I didn't know you had a girlfriend.” Bella said.

“Hun? I don't have a girlfriend.” I replied

“What? Then why did you tell that little girl that you did today?”

I started to laugh.

“Oh, that. Tannya is a very old, very ex girlfriend I had when I lived in Alaska. I only told that little girl that because she obviously had a little school girl crush on me and I didn't have the heart to break hers.”

Bella started to laugh.

“How do you know she had a crush on you?”

“Because, I could hear her and her friends talking about it together.”

“But how, they were across the room.”

Shit!

“I have perfect hearing.”

God please let her buy that.

“Wow, you must have like bionic hearing.” she joked.

I laughed with her thinking to myself, If she only knew.

The waitress brought out our food and drinks, and it didn't even smell appetizing to me.

“Enjoy you meal.” She replied as she walked away.

I just looked at it for a moment debating weather or not to say I wasn't feeling well and not eat it. However if I do that, she'll insist we get the food to go and I bring her home so I can go get some rest.

“What's wrong? Aren't you hungry?”

“Yeah, I was just saying grace.” I answered.

Dear heavenly father, please let this food magically disappear, I joked to myself before taking a bite.

It was the worst tasting thing I'd ever tasted. It tasted like old socks! But I didn't want Bella to get suspicious so I sucked it up and ate, most of it. There was no way in hell or heaven, for that matter, that I was finishing it.

After we finished dinner and left the restraint we went out to our cars.

“Ok, so now it's your turn to follow me to the movie.” I said.

“Well there's only one movie theater in town.” She pointed out.

“Who said anything a bout a theater?”

“What do you have up your sleeve?” she asked.

“Just trust me.” I replied as I got in my car.

I watched Bella climb into her heap of a truck and try to crank it up. It wouldn't start. I got out of my car to help her.

“Stupid ancient piece of junk!” she shouted as I walked to the drivers window.

“Mind if I take a look?” I asked.

She looked at me, blushing my favorite shade.

“Go ahead.” she replied.

I walked around to the front of the truck and open the hood. Smoke shot out and filled the air. Once the smoke cleared I saw it was over heated and her engine was shot.

“Your engine is shot to hell.” I said, shutting the hood and opening her car for her.

“Great, now what am I going to do.” she replied as she climbed out of the truck.

“I'll call a tow truck company, have them bring it to my house and let my brother fix it for you tomorrow.”

“Ok, but how am I getting home tonight?”

Is she serious?

“Me, duh.” I said with a smile.

“No, you've already bought me dinner.”

“I want to, please.” I said, pleading with my eyes.

She took a deep breath.

“Fine.”

I smiled as I opened the passenger door for her to get in and then went around to my side of the car.

“So, where are we going.”

“You'll see.” I answered as we pulled off.

Once we reached our destination, she was confused.

“I thought we were going to a movie?”

“We are.” I replied.

“Uh.. this is a forest.”

“Just trust me.” I said as I opened my trunk and took out a two blankets that I kept in there.

“What are the blankets for?” she asked getting a little nervous.

“Bella, you can trust me, I'm not going to try anything.” I replied.

She let her guard down a little.

“I have pepper spray, just so you know.” She warned.

“Don't worry, I wont give to a reason to use it, now follow me.”

I led her to meadow just on the other side of the forest, she was stunned. You have a perfect clear view of the drive in movie screen from where we were. Tonight they were playing Moulin Rouge.

“See, I told you to trust me.”

“Oh, Edward, it's amazing.” she replied as I laid one of the blankets down for us to sit on.

She sat down and I sat next to her and wrapped the other blanket over her shoulders so she could keep warm.

“I'm sorry I doubted your intentions.” she said.

“No problem, I probably would have done the same thing.” I answered.

“How did you know about this place?”

“It's where I come when I want to get away from the world for a little while.”

“It's beautiful.”

Suddenly her cell phone rang.

Hello.

Hey.

I'm at home.

Ok

Good night.

Love you too.

“Jake.” she replied.

“Some how I knew that, why did yo lie to him.” I asked.

“Do you really have to ask?”

“He really doesn't like me does he.”

“That's putting it mildly.” she replied, “If he knew this was really where I was he'd have a conniption fit.”

“If he's causing you all this trouble, why do you stay with him?”

“Well, because I love him, but sometimes I feel like he's hiding something from me.”

Yeah, like that fact that he's a wolf!! I said to myself.

“Have you asked him if there's anything he's keeping from you?” I asked

“Yeah, but he always says no. But I know something just isn't right.”

I wanted to tell her the truth so bad, but I couldn't

“He thinks you and I hanging out and being friends is dangerous for some reason, but Edward I can't stay away from you.”

“Then don't.”

“I feel connected to you, comfortable, like I can tell you anything.”

“I know what you mean” I replied.

I was loving where this was going.

“I've never had a brother or anything but I feel connected to you in that way.”

Damn it, she only thinks of me as a brother, I thought with sadness.

“Yeah,” I agreed.

“And I'm going to tell Jacob if he can't handle that fact that you and I are going to be friends than he can just go to hell.”

“I'm sure hell love that.” I said with a laugh.

We both smiled at one another.

“Let's watch the film.” I suggested and we both turned our attention to the movie.

After the film was over I brought her straight home.

“Thanks for everything.” she replied.

“No problem, I'll bring you your truck tomorrow.” I said.

Edward, I owe you an apology.”

What is she sorry for? I thought.

“An apology for what?” I asked.

“For yesterday in the lunch room, when I almost kissed you.”

“Bella, it was I who almost kissed you, don't apologize.”

“We were both just caught up in a moment, it didn't mean anything.” she said.

“Right.” I agreed, know I was lying.

“And Jacob can never know.”

“You have my word.” I replied.

She smiled.

“Thanks Edward, your the best.” she said before kissing my cheek and climbing out of the car.

I was crushed to know that my dream girl, would never be mine. To her I was nothing more than a friend whom she looked at as nothing more than as brother.
