Vampires have never been known for their religious side yet here I was. I walked up into the church that I had seen and sat in the pew. There were a few others deep in prayers. I bowed my head and thought about all that had been lost. A sweet, innocent soul had died because of my feelings. I didn’t believe in heaven or hell, for vampires at least. But I knew all about torment. I was living it.

“Are you alright?” a sweet musical voice asked me. I looked up. A vampire with flame red hair was standing next to me.

“Victoria” I gasped. She nodded.

“Come with me. We have much to discuss,” she said. I don’t know why but I followed her out of the chapel and into the woods.

“Why were you there?” her eyes were a deceptive shade of green. She was still a killer.

“I came to think. I’ve done many wrongs in my life and I know that I can’t undo them but I needed some reason to go on. James is dead but I realized he didn’t truly love me. I might as well try to change while I still can”

“How did you realize? What led you here?”

“The same thing that led you here” What led me here? My emotions had.

“The human girl, Bella” she said.

“I thought you wanted to kill her,” I said. I was afraid. How could Bella have led Victoria here?

“That was a long time ago. People change. Just believe me. Bella brought me here. She knew that I would find you. She wanted a message to be passed on” she handed me a folded piece of paper.

“There will be more. But not yet” she turned to leave.

“Wait! Why me? How is Bella doing this? Tell me please”

“You will discover it when the time is right. Don’t tell anyone else about it until you get the sign that you can” she walked away.

“What sign? How will I know it’s there?” but she was gone, faded into the trees. I unfolded the piece of paper Victoria had given me.

Dear Jasper

I’m sorry. Never forget that I love you and if you ever need help, it will find you. You will know me when you see me.

Goodbye my love.

Bella.

What was going on? Could Bella be alive? How was it possible? We hadn’t found her body and had assumed it had been swept away. There was no way she could have survived the fall and there were sharp rocks below. It was impossible. Yet here was the note. Perhaps she had known she was going to die and had written the note? No, Alice would have seen her sooner and we would have been able to catch her. This note had been written recently. Was someone impersonating Bella? Why? Who would do that?

“GRRRRRRRRRR!” I snarled at the sky. What on earth could I do? I started the walk home. I would have to keep my thoughts secret and obey Bella’s wishes, even if it wasn’t her. I had been given my sign.
