After a few minutes of running through the woods I realized where she was headed and decided to take a little short-cut and beat her there...

Chapter Seven

I turned and saw that Edward wasn’t behind me.

‘Ok just a little farther and I’m there.’ I told myself. When I arrived at the meadow, I saw Edward lying in the field of wildflowers. His arms were crossed behind his head. I looked at him and saw the same old Edward I had fallen in love with not long ago. The light streaming down from the moon made his skin sparkle and highlighted the flawless features of his face. He was perfect. I loved him more than anything; more than life. Why would he ever doubt that?

I approached Edward as quietly as I could, but I knew he would hear my soft footsteps. He didn't move. ‘Maybe he is just thinking of somethi-‘ I didn’t finish my thought. I was roughly pulled down into Edward's waiting arms. We both laughed. I laid my head on the crook of his neck, and sighed deeply at his scent.

Edward turned to face me, kissed my forehead, and whispered, "I missed this place."

"Me too." I conquered, as I snuggled closer to him.

We stayed like this for what seemed like an eternity, but I wasn’t complaining. Edward and I haven't had us time since...well, a long time now. I guess that was mostly because of me. I'd been distant because of the rift between Charlie and me. From now on, this was going to change. At least, that was what I hoped.

The sun had set. The moon was full, and brighter than ever. I had really missed this place; our place.

“Hey Edward,” He hummed in response. “Edward, Promise me something.”

“Anything.” he replied, moving a strand of hair away from my face.

I sat up; he mirrored my action. I took his hand in mine, and whispered loud enough for him to hear, “Promise me that you’ll never, and I mean never, doubt how much I love you, ever again.”

“Never think that our eloping was a mistake, either. Unless you...” I looked down, and stared at our entwined fingers.

“Bella,” I didn't look up to see him. I couldn’t. If he actually regretted our marriage, I would leave him. I wouldn’t want him to suffer through living with me, if he didn't want to. I wouldn’t guilt him into staying with me. That would be pathetic.

“Bella love,” He whispered again, this time gently lifting my chin up. Our eyes met. His topaz colored eyes tried to tell me so much in that miniscule moment. I saw a mixture of pain and love in their depths. I so very badly wanted to know what he was thinking in that instant. It seemed like we stared at each other for hours, yet it could only have been a few seconds.

Edward spoke again, “I love you. I do admit that at times I believe you could have done so much better. If I had never been in your life you would have had a chance to actually live. I took that away from you. I was greedy and selfish. That is the only thing I regret. I wanted you to have a life, or at least a choice.”

“I do, Edward. You are my life. You will always be my life. I chose you, and if I had the opportunity to choose again, I would do it in a heartbeat. I love you, Edward Cullen."

He leaned in, and placed his lips upon mine. I moved closer to close the distance and kissed him softly, gently. In the kiss, I could feel all of my worries and insecurities melt away. Now, more than anything, I knew exactly that he was indeed my existence now.

The kiss was soon interrupted by a very foul smell. The stench was getting stronger by the second. I immediately joined Edward, and got ready to attack whatever was coming our way.

“Bella, I want you to go and get the others.” Edward's voice was urgent.

“But, what’s going on, Edward? Who is it?”

“Bella, love please do as I tell you. Get the others. I’ll try to hold them back.”

“Them? Ed--” I couldn’t finish my sentence upon seeing six wolf-like figures jump out of the depths of the dark woods, speeding our way.

“GO!” I couldn’t move. I was frozen in place. I couldn’t leave Edward here with them. However, I knew we needed help. After I saw they had slowed down and stopped, close enough for us to get a good look at them, I nodded and ran back to the house.

I ran like my life depended on it. In a way, it did. Edward was my entire world, and if anything happened....I shook that thought away, and kept speeding through the woods. Why couldn't I run any faster? The few seconds it took me to get to the mansion seemed like years to me. Once I got a glimpse of the house, I saw heaven. I ran even faster. When I got nearer to the house, I saw Alice coming my way.

“Bella, what's wrong? Are you okay?” Alice ranted.

“Yes, I’m fine. It's--”

“Where’s Edward?” I tried to answer her question, but she gasped, “Oh my goodness.” She took a hold on my shoulder, and said, “Bella, I can’t see him.”

“What? Edward told me to come get you all. He needs our help. Now. ” Knowing that Alice could not see Edward only added to my anxiety.

“Let's hurry.” I heard Esme say. I nodded, and the family soon followed. We got to the meadow just in time. Edward was on the ground, fighting off one of the humongous wolves, while the others howled.
