Full Moon-Part 8-Nessie
Aunt Rose came home soon after us. She was still embarrassed that her emotions got the best of her. And to my surprise, she had brought Claire and Quil. I wondered how she got here so fast, and then I remembered she drove like a maniac. But she wasn’t as bad as Aunt Alice, and definitely not as bad as Dad. Crazy, maniac, fast vampires!
Claire was only nine. But we always clicked. I think I was her role model. She tried whatever she could to hang out with me. And I always loved to hang out with her. That might explain why we both started screaming.
“OMG! Nessie!” she screamed.
“OMG! Claire!” I shouted. Yeah, maybe I shouted a little loud, but who cares!
I tried not to hug her as tight as I could, or else I might kill her. But if I did, she didn’t complain.
“Hey Quil! Sorry I didn’t say hello to you first, but it’s a girl thing. But you know, maybe I like everyone else better,” I teased.
“What? No screaming for me? And no big hug? And you don’t like me as much as everyone else? How dare you! You’re going down!” He teased, but then he ran towards me and tackled me.
“Quil! How dare you! You messed up Nessie’s brand new shirt!” I bet you can guess who said that. But we always got rid of any shirt I wear the next day. I didn’t see why this mattered. I could see Dad chuckling at that.
“Shut up stupid mind-reading vampire” I thought. That stopped him. Good.
After a few hours, Quil and Claire had to leave. I was sad about that, but I would be able to see them more often since I was staying in Forks.
Grandma Esme made me all my favorite foods. I ate until I was full, and since there was a lot of food, that task was pretty easy. Without giving much thought, I yawned.
“Bedtime for the hamp?! Emmett teased.
I looked over at Jake. He nodded, and I listened. He would be the only person I would listen to now.
We ran until we came upon the large stream that separated “The Main House” and to the cottage. We jumped over it and pretty soon came upon the cottage. He had picked me up and cradled me in his arms. Jake carried me to my room and laid me down on my bed. He laid down next to me, and I snuggled up closer to him. About five minutes later, he propped up on one elbow.
“Nessie, do you truly love me?”
“Of course I do! Why do you think I came back to Forks?” I kept babbling until he put a hand over my mouth. But it was his fault! He should know that I love him.
“If what you say is the truth, then marry me.” I noticed he had a beautiful ring in his hand. When I didn’t answer, he said, “If you don’t want to, it’s fine. Maybe later,” He kept babbling on. I pinched his lips with my fingers.
“Of course I’ll marry you! But when did you get the ring?”
“This is the ring my father gave my mother,” he whispered. I could sense strong emotion in his voice, and tears streaming down my face.
He put the ring on my finger, and I snuggled even closer into him. I kicked the blankets off since he was really warm. He started humming the lullaby he wrote me when I was five, after my dad taught him how to play the piano. I could feel my eyes start to close and breathing start to slow as the lullaby rang through my ears. I fell into a deep sleep, feeling warm in Jake’s arms.
