Chapter 4: The Call

BPOV:

“Bella, don’t make me come in there and wake your ass up,” I heard, as I was waking up in the morning. “Come on! It’s almost one. Time to get up!” It sounded like Rose.

She started to shake the tent at that point. I had no choice but to get up now, “Alright, alright, I’m up.” I growled.

I was having an amazing dream, about Edward. We were just sitting in the middle of some kind of meadow. I don’t know what it was, but just being there with him was all I needed. We didn’t talk; we didn’t really do anything. We just sat there together, and it was perfect. It was just a dream though, and it probably wouldn’t come true anyways, right?

I sighed, climbing out of my sleeping bag, and out the tent door, “Is it really one already?”

“No, not really. It’s only like 11,”Alice laughed, sitting on the couch. “But would you have gotten up if you told you that?” She smirked at me.

“Oh.. you guys are good,” I laughed, walking into the kitchen.

I pulled out a box of Cookie Crisp, my favorite cereal. I poured some into a bowl, along some with milk, and walked back into the living room. Alice was already eating a bowl and Rose was flipping through the channels on the TV with a pop tart in her hand.

I plopped down onto the couch, with my cereal in hand, “So, what are you guys doing today?”

Alice started bouncing in her seat, “I’m going shopping!” I groaned. She would probably drag me along with her. Dang pixie.

“Emmett and I are going out today,” Rose smiled.

I took a bite of my cereal, “Mmm.”

“Ahh, I LOVE this show,” Alice squealed. That 70’s Show was on.

“Hangin out, down the street,

The same old thing we did last week.

Not a thing to do, but talk to you.

We’re all alright, we’re all alright..

HELLO WISCONSIN!”

We were all singing along to the theme song. It was one of our favorite parts about the show.

We just sat there, watching the rest of the show while we finished breakfast. Last night had been a lot of fun, and I was lucky to have friends like Rose and Alice. We may be three totally different people, but we all got along perfectly. They've been my best friends for nearly six years now, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The show ended, and Alice picked up the remote, turning the TV off, “I love that show, but now it’s time to get ready for the day,” she jumped up off the couch, taking my bowl with her into the kitchen.

Rose got up, “I’m going to go get ready, I’ll be in my bedroom,” she walked out of the living room, into her room.

“Let me know if you need any help, I’ll be here for a while,” Alice yelled back to Rose. She looked back to me, smiling, “Bella, you HAVE to go shopping with me today."

I sighed, I saw this coming, “Okay Alice, I’ll go,” I didn’t even bother telling her ‘no’.

“But Bella, you have to!! Wait.. WHAT? Did I just hear Bella Swan agree to go shopping with me?” Alice jumped up and down as she walked back into the living room.

“Yes Alice, I said I would go shopping with you,” She smiled. There was no point trying to get out of it, Alice always got me to go anyway.

“Yay, this is going to be so much fun,” Alice grabbed my arm, dragging me into her room.

“Rose, do you need any help?” Alice yelled across the hall.

“No, I think I can handle it. But could you just help me find something to wear?” She said, walking into Alice’s room, holding a pile of clothes.

I sat on Alice’s bed, “Bring those over here Rose, and put them on the bed so we can see what you’ve got.”

She dumped all the clothes onto the bed, picking up a red shirt, “I really want to wear this new shirt, but I don’t know what to wear with it.” She sighed.

Alice and Rose were the only ones I know that cared this much about their clothes. I didn’t care nearly as much as they did about fashion. But I have to say, some of their fashion expertise has worn off on me. “I think you should where THIS pair of jeans. It would look just perfect on you,” I suggested, picking up a pair of light blue, ripped jeans.

They both looked at me like I had grown a second head, “What?” I honestly didn’t know why they were looking at me like that.

“Bella, you just gave Rose fashion advice, and it was PERFECT!” Alice ran to me, giving me a hug.

“We’ve taught you well,” Rose laughed.

“Did you honestly think I would know nothing about fashion knowing you two for as long as I have?” I questioned them, raising an eyebrow, “Now go put these clothes on so we can see how it looks on you,” I threw the clothes at her and pushed her into the bathroom.

When I turned around, Alice was on the phone. I hadn’t even heard her phone ring, “That’s PERFECT Jasper, we’ll be there! Love you too, bye.”

“What’s going on Alice?” I sat on her bed again.

She flashed a wicked grin at me. I knew that look; Alice was up to something, “We have plans for tomorrow night,” was all she said.

“And what plans would that be?” I asked, confused.

“We’re going bowling!” she screamed. “This means, we’ll have to find something new to wear, while we’re shopping today.”

“Bowling, Alice? WHY BOWLING? You know I can’t even WALK without falling, and you expect me to BOWL?”

She laughed, “Yes, silly, we are going bowling. You will do fine,” she tapped the side of her head, “I know.”

“Alright Alice, whatever you say,” I sighed.

Rose walked back into the room then. She had her hair in curls, and the outfit looked amazing on her.

Alice and I smiled, “That DOES look perfect, Rose,” we said together.

“Thanks guys,” she grabbed a jacket from Alice’s closet, “This will look better with my outfit than my jacket. Can I borrow it Alice?”

“Yup, no problem. Have fun, Rose,” she replied

“M’kay, well then I guess I’m going to go now. Bye guys, don’t wait up tonight,” she said, winking at us and laughing.

We laughed, “Bye Rose,” Alice and I said together.

“Okay Bella, Ready for some shopping,” Alice jumped up from the bed, dragging me with her. “Put these clothes on and meet me in the living room. Ten minutes!”

“Fine,” I mumbled.

I walked into my own room, putting on the clothes Alice had given me. I ended up wearing a pair of dark skinny jeans and a blue top, and I had to admit, I looked good.

I walked back into the living room, “Alice, I’m ready.”

She was bouncing up and down in front of me, “Alright! Lets go shopping.”

**

We ended up shopping for almost five hours, a minimum record for Alice. I had somehow ended up with just a few things in the end, Alice carrying bags full of clothes for herself. I only had about six new shirts, three new pairs of pants, and a blue dress.

We got back to the house around eight o'clock that night. I put my new clothes away, and crashed on the couch. I closed my eyes, not wanting to move another inch. Shopping with Alice was exhausting.

Alice walked into the room, “I wish we could have done some more shopping, but I really just wanted to get home. At least we got some cute things for you to wear at the bowling alley tomorrow,” she said, winking at me. That little pixie; she was definitely up to something.

“Alice. Why do you keep giving me that look? You know, the one where you look like you’re up to something,” she looked at me, a confused look on her face. “You know what I’m talking about Alice, now spill.”

She sat on the couch, next to me, “Fine. Emmett and Jasper got a new roommate this week,”

I sighed, “Okay. And…”

“And, he’s going bowling with us tomorrow,” she winked at me, bouncing up and down on the couch.

“ALICE! Are you trying to set me up?” I asked, confused. “You know I hate it when you do this..”

“I know Bella, but you will have fun this time. It’s not like the times with Mike or Jake, everything will be fine. We’ll be there with you this time,” she said, remembering the past times she did this to me.

Alice had tried to set me up on dates with other guys before. There was Mike, a guy who couldn’t keep his hands to himself, and only wanted one thing. Sex. And then there was Jacob, a guy who was a good friend, but he wanted too much from me. We were really good friends for a while, but he wanted us to start dating, like boyfriend girlfriend stuff. I couldn’t do it, he was too much of JUST a good friend to me, and I didn’t feel the way about him as he did for me.

Since then, I never agreed to the dates Alice wanted to send me on. But this time, I didn’t think it would be too bad. I mean, Alice and Rose would be there, and Emmett and Jasper too.

Emmett and Jasper..

“Wait, you said Emmett and Jasper got a new roommate? When?” I asked, thinking about what Edward had said. He lived down the street from the grocery store. Emmett and Jasper lived that way, didn’t they?

“I don’t know. I think about a week or so ago. They were old friends from High School or something. Why?” she asked, looking at me.

“Oh, nothing, I was just wondering,” I lied.

I couldn’t help but think Emmett and Jasper’s new roommate might me Edward; the same Edward who I’ve been thinking about all day. I was suddenly really excited about tomorrow night.

“Do you know what his name is?” I asked, wondering if my thoughts could be true.

“I don’t know. Jasper never told me. He just said it was one of their old friends, but we will find out tomorrow,” she said, picking up the remote for the stereo.

She turned the stereo on, one of the songs from my favorite CD filling the room..

“How long have I been in this storm?
So overwhelmed by the ocean's shapeless form
Water's getting harder to tread
With these waves crashing over my head

If I could just see you
Everything would be all right
If I'd see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I will get lost into your eyes
I know everything will be alright
I know everything is alright

I know you didn't bring me out here to drown
So why am I ten feet under and upside down
Barely surviving has become my purpose
Because I'm so used to living underneath the surface

If I could just see you
Everything would be all right
If i'd see you
This darkness would turn to light

And I will walk on water
And you will catch me if I fall
And I know everything will be alright
I know everything will be alright”

(“Storm” – Lifehouse)

It was my favorite song; I had listened to it about a million times. But now, I really listened to it. It was another thing that had reminded me of Edward Masen that day. If I could see him, if I could just look into his beautiful green eyes, I thought everything would be alright. Although, I didn’t really know him, so I couldn’t possibly think that. Could I? I wanted to see him again, I just didn’t know if I ever would.

“Bella, are you even listening to me?” Alice snapped me out of my thoughts.

“Huh? Sorry Alice, what were you saying?” I asked.

Alice sighed, “I was saying, I could help you get ready for bowling tomorrow, and you can wear that new blue shirt and the jeans I got you.”

“Oh. Alright, that sounds fine,” I yawned. “I think I’m going to head to bed early tonight,” I waved at her, heading into my bedroom. “Good night Alice. See you tomorrow”

“Good night Bella,” she waved.

I got into my room, pulling out the book I’ve been reading and sitting on my bed. I stayed up for a good hour or two that night, reading and thinking. Although, I did a lot more thinking that I did reading. I thought about Edward, and maybe seeing him again soon. If he really was Emmett and Jasper’s new roommate, bowling could be a lot more fun than I though it would be. I thought about the fact that I couldn’t stop thinking of him, about how he was always there, in the back of my mind.

We may have only talked for that short period of time, but I couldn’t get him out of my head. It was as if my thoughts were drawn to him, and the short time we had together. I couldn’t stop it; and to be honest, I didn’t really want to.

I found myself drifting off to sleep around ten thirty that night, Edward on my thoughts.

That was the second night I dreamt of Edward Masen.
