During the entire day, I felt an odd mix of nerves and anticipation. At lunch, I planned to sit with Jessica and Mike, like always. Angela was sick which was a bit disappointing. She was one of the two people I could actually talk to without fear of them judging me. And I wasn't speaking to the other person. I had just collected my lunch and I was scanning the canteen for Jess when I saw him. Edward was waving at me, and indicating a sit with him. He normally sat with his family didn't he? Was he just staying away because he knew I was worried about their reaction to me? I walked over to him and sat opposite.

"Hi" I said, quietly "not eating with your family?"

"Technically no, but if we include the fact that you may very soon be adopted by my family then yes I am eating with my ‘family" I blushed. He grinned.

"So...did you decide if you were going to forgive your friend?"

"No" I sighed, "I want to but right now I can't even stand to think about him. You never told me what you think I should do"

"Just do what you feel is right you..." he cut off and groaned. I glanced around and saw one of his sisters walking towards me...Alice? Yes, Alice. And one of the boys, Emmett.

"Hey Edward. The others were just wondering why you weren't sitting with us"

"And why you were keeping this beautiful girl to yourself" added Emmett. I blushed and looked at the floor.

"Hi Alice...Emmett. I was just chatting with my new friend"

"Oh I remember now, you were the girl who showed us to our classes, our first day" said Emmett "and more recently, you passed out in our front drive!" I groaned and blushed a bright scarlet.

"Emmett. Please tell me that Carlisle didn't tell you about that, and you merely passed my car sometime last night," he said without much help.

"Nope! Carlisle came in this morning and said we had a guest, who might possibly staying with us and that we were to be on our best behaviour, etc. and Esme asked where she actually was and Carlisle told us!" I was so embarrassed! I hoped no one would find out about that.

"So, is that all you wanted?" Edward asked. He seemed equally embarrassed.

"Actually...no. Alice needed to tell you that we all need to go home. Now" I could hear the urgency in his voice.

"Yeah, you know when we were supposed to have our...flu jabs?" Edward looked confused but Alice glared at him meaningfully.

"Oh! Yeah...flu jabs"

"Well, you know they were cancelled? Apparently, today is the only slot they can fit us all in. otherwise we have to wait until next month" Alice turned and gestured. Edward stood but looked reluctant to leave.

"Okay. I'll walk back to my house," I said, realizing the object of his hesitation.

"No, I'll pick you up after school, like I said. Will we be done by then?" was I imagining those strange looks, like they were conveying hidden meanings in their sentences?

"Yes" said Alice. Edward looked incredibly relieved.

"Bye Bella. I'll meet you in the parking lot after last lesson. I'll be the one in the flashiest car in the school, the shiny silver Volvo that all the boys would love to key," he said. I looked away from his intense stare. It was like he could see right into my soul. He smiled a crooked smile and left.
