2. Chapter 2 The Truth

Jacob and I were walking at human pace to English. Neither of us spoke. Like me, Jacob had already figured out what Edward said when I met up with him after fourth period. Every thirty seconds or so we would permit a glance at each other and when one of those comments popped up in someone's conversation we would both cringe slightly.

We finally made it to English with many glances in our direction, and we just happened to be late.

"Thank you for joining us Miss Cullen and Mr. Black." Mr. Wetzel stated in a disapproving voice.

Every face in the classroom turned to look at us. Great, just what we needed, more attention.

"Sorry." we both muttered has we hurried to our seat in the back of the classroom.

Less than a second after we sat down I had a piece of note book paper and a pen out. I quickly wrote Jacob a note and then nudged him.

"What?" he whispered.

I quickly shoved the note under his face and watched as his eyes read my writing.

I can't believe Edward kept this from us.

He shoved the note back to me with a new message on it.

Come on, Bella. Did you actually think Edward was going to say something like that in front of Nessie?

I frowned. He had a point. I continued reading.

If he said something that sounded like we were in danger Jasper and I would have grabbed Alice and Nessie and run for it. Emmett would have wanted to meet this new leech and run off to find her right then and there.

He had a point, again. Since when was Jacob so smart?

Since when did you get so smart?

Spending all your time with a half - vampire has more than one advantage.

I mentally cringed when I thought about the other possible advantages.

Thanks for noticing.

Sigh. Same old Jacob.

What do you think the receptionist was thinking?

My guess is that she was about to ask if we knew or were related to the other bloodsucker.

Holy crap! Where are you coming up with all of this?

It's a gift.

I held back my need to thump him in the back of the head.

Emmett is going to tease you for being a furry smarty pants once I tell him about this.

He looked up at me with a horrified expression on his face.

You wouldn't.

This is going to be fun.

Or just maybe my shield will slip, revealing this whole conversation to Edward. Who will then tell Emmett and torment you for the rest of your life.

He was about to respond, but right on cue the bell rang.

"I'll expect your essays on Thursday morning." Mr. Wetzel told everyone as they rushed out of the classroom.

"Essay?" Jacob managed to choke out.

Crap. That could be a problem.

"Don't worry we'll talk to Edward." I said.

"Speaking of Edward..." Jacob said with annoyance in his voice.

"Let's go." I said in a voice that mirrored his.

With that reminder we headed off to find everyone else. We rounded a corner and nearly ran into Emmett and Jasper. They nodded to both of us, and we set off in search of the remaining members of our family. At the end of a hallway we saw Nessie, Alice, and Rosalie walking out of the Geography classroom. As soon as they heard us they stopped walking and waited for us. Once we reached them Rosalie took Emmett's hand, Alice took Jasper's, and Nessie took Jacob's.

"Come on." I said.

The seven of us took up the whole hallway, thanks to Jacob and Emmett, so people were pressing against walls and lockers to let us pass. Standing outside the cafeteria was Edward. As soon as everybody saw him they quickened their pace. I took my shield off to give him a piece of my mind, literally. I was sure by everyone's focused looks on their faces that they were doing the same. Everyone except Renesmee.

"Stop." she practically yelled. "You're killing Jasper!"

As soon as she said that we all stopped and looked at Jasper, who was standing there clutching Alice's hand as hard as he possibly could with a pained look on his face, probably due to all of our emotions.

We were all silent. Nessie gave Edward a look that made him speak, or was it her thoughts?

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you guys." he said while looking at each of us. "I couldn't have been sure if she really was one of us."

"Well you could have warned us at least." Rosalie spat.

She was about to say more, but Jacob cut her off.

"Bella and I understand." he said while putting his arm around Nessie's waist. "You knew Jasper and I would overreact and take Alice and Nessie away. You knew that Emmett would want to run and go meet the leech. You knew telling us would just make things worse." he said. "So just lay off him guys."

"Whoa... since when did Jake get so smart?" Emmett chuckled.

Jacob grimaced briefly.

"Don't worry, Emmett, I'll explain everything later." I said grinning.

"So... I am forgiven?" Edward started.

"Of course you are." I said before kissing him lightly on the lips.

"Forgiven." said Alice while skipping lightly to my side.

"Forgiven." said Jasper as he followed Alice.

"Forgiven." Jacob said while holding Renesmee close to his side.

"That's just weird." said Emmett while shaking his head slowly back and forth. "You'd think we were on a soap opera or something."

"Does everyone forgive Edward?" said Renesmee impatiently.

"Yep." Everyone said.

"Ness, why are you so impatient?" I questioned her.

"You may not be able to relate so well, but Jake and I are hungry." she clarified.

Edward motioned for Jake and her to lead the way through the doors. She was then followed by Rose and Emmett, Alice and Jasper, and Edward and I.

We all stopped once everyone was through the doors to take in the large room that was full of students. Everything seemed pretty normal until Edward hissed and turned to face a table in the opposite side of the room where two girls sat.

They looked pretty normal from here. The blond girl who sat closest to us was wearing a rocker tee, black high top converse, and skinny jeans. The other girl had brown hair that was in a single braid wrapped around the crown of her head, a navy blue button down ruffle top, white skinny jeans, and silver ballet flats. My first thought was that the brown haired girl would get along extremely well with Alice.

I didn't know what Edward was fussing about until the brown haired girl raised her head and looked directly at us. It was obvious that she was a vampire. She had pale white skin and topaz eyes. Well, at least she was ‘vegetarian.' Her blond haired friend followed her gaze, and when she saw us her blue eyes grew even bigger than her vampire friend's.

The vampire leaned down to the blond girl and whispered something that even my vampire senses couldn't make out. The blond girl quickly nodded, and the brown haired vampire ran a little faster than human pace out the door.
