Today is going to be interesting. It's Thanksgiving and is the first time the entire family has been together since that night. Four weeks ago was my jaw surgery, which is healing nicely. Two weeks ago, I petitioned the Court to drop the Restraining Order. The separation, however, was still on. Part of me felt guilty for keeping it going, as he had a tumor, but I was still angry with him.

Maddy was helping me in the kitchen getting the turkey ready, while Jack, Masen and Charlotte were in the living room watching the parade.

"Mom," Maddy said. "Is Dad coming?"

"Yes. Are you okay with that?"

"We're not going to be alone with him, are we?"

"No. We'll all be together."

"Well, what if I don't feel comfortable around him?"

"Then you tell me and we'll work something out."

"You won't be mad?"

"Of course not. None of this is going to be easy and I'm not going to force anything on you guys."

"He's not moving back in, is he?"

"No. He's staying with Grandma and Grandpa until he's better."

"And then?"

"And then...I don't know."

A little while later the bird was in the oven. The kids were playing in the living room while the boys watched football. Alice, rose and I were making pies in the kitchen while we waited for Carlisle, Esme and Edward to arrive.

"So Rose, have you and Emmett thought of any names yet," I asked.

"Emmett is insistent that it's a girl, which is odd because I always thought he'd want a boy first. But he likes the name Abigail Christine."

"And for a boy?"

"Gabriel Evan."

"TOUCHDOWN!! WHOO-HOO!!" the boys hollered from the living room.

"Rose, babe, can you bring us in some food," Emmett called from the living room.

"I may be carrying your child, but I'm not your damn maid! Come and get it yourself!"

From outside I heard Carlisle's car pull in and went out to greet them. Esme was beautiful as ever, after having completed a round of chemo with good results. Carlisle helped Edward out of the car. He moved slowly and had a small smile on his face when he saw me.

“Here, let me help you," I said wrapping an arm around his waist.

“I'm okay. Just tired, is all."

"Well everyone is here. The bird is in the oven. Jas and Em are watching the football game. Do you want to join them?"

"Sure, for a little while."

"Now remember, Edward, the kids might be hesitant around you. Don't force them, okay," Carlisle said.

"I know."

I helped Edward into the house and onto the sofa.

"Do you need anything? Something to drink?"

"No, I'm fine thanks. What's the score?"

I realized he would be fine with his brothers, so I returned to the kitchen. Maddy was right behind me. A little while later, Edward was tired and asked to lay down. I helped him up to our room, since it was the only room with a normal bed. I took off his shoes and his bulky sweater and got a blanket for him.

"Do you need anything?"

"No. Can you sit with me for a bit?"

"Sure."

I drew the curtains and sat on the foot of the bed.

"I'm not going to bite, Bella. You can sit closer than that."

"I know."

We were quiet for a few moments - each of us thinking of something to say.

"I miss you," Edward said quietly. "Every minute of everyday. I want to come home."

"No. The kids and I aren't ready for that yet."

"Why? I'm still your husband and their father."

"I understand that, but Edward, you saw how Maddy was - she can't be in the same room with you right now. Please, for me, don't rush this."

"Do you even still love me?"

"Of course I do."

“Then what's the problem?"

"The problem is that you hurt me to my core. You did things I never thought you'd do."

“But it wasn't me!"

"I know, and that's what makes this harder. I know I should forgive you but I just can't."

I left Edward then to rest. The rest of the day went well, although I couldn't stop thinking about him. Maybe I was being stupid by keeping him away? He was my husband and I did vow to be there for him. But yet, I was still deeply hurt and angry. I understood that his actions were the work of the tumor, but I found that to be a little too convenient. Maddy and Masen were my shadows all day - they never strayed too far unless Emmett or one of the other Cullen's were with them. After dinner, everyone was gathered around the table to play cards, except for Edward who was tired again and was in bed. This was normal, Carlisle assured me.

"Hey, are we still going shopping tomorrow," Alice asked.

"I'm in! Do you have tomorrow's paper with the ads," Rose asked.

"Yeah. It's by the door."

"Bella, Esme, you coming," Alice asked.

"It's too early for me," Esme said. "I can watch the kids if you'd like to go, Bella."

"That's silly - driving all the way back to Forks then back here? Why doesn't everyone just stay then?"

"Yeah! Uncle Emmett can sleep in my room," Masen said with excitement. "We can build a fort!"

Emmett looked at Rose for approval.

"I don't care," she said.

"Good, then it's settled," Alice said.

A little while later, I put Charlotte, Jack and Lilly to bed. When I walked in my room, Edward was sleeping. I knew all of this had to be rough on him. Carlisle said he was having a lot of headaches and was still pretty tired from the meds he was on. But it was normal, he assured me again. I quietly took my pajamas out of the dresser and changed in the bathroom. Once that was done, I grabbed a blanket from the closet and my pillow and made a make-shift bed on the floor.

"Bella," Edward said.

"Did I wake you?"

"No. What are you doing?"

"I'm sleeping on the floor."

"Why?"

"Because everyone's staying so we can go shopping in the morning."

"Bella, that's stupid. You can sleep in our bed."

"I'm fine."

"I won't do anything, I promise. Just come and sleep up here."

I stood there for a moment before I climbed in, making sure I was as far away from him as I could be without falling off.

"Bella," Alice whispered as she shook me. "Bella, get up!"

"What time is it?"

"Four. Get up. I'll have coffee made downstairs."

I rubbed my eyes and realized I wasn't in the same spot I fell asleep in. I was laying on my side, my back pressed against Edward's chest and his arm draped over my waist. Sometime during the night either he or I put us this way. I knew I should have slept on the floor. Even though I didn't like it, it still felt right. My body missed him next to me. This is exactly what I wasn't ready for.
