Rating 5/5   Word Count 622   Review this Chapter

The following Monday, they sent me to school. I was really worried that I’d be to dumb to go to seventh grade but I was barley there. That surprised me, seeing how I was never taught anything. But the Cullen’s are my tutors. Alice teaches me math, Esme teaches me reading, Edward teaches me writing, Carlisle teaches me science and, to my surprise, Jasper is teaching me social studies.

I was so nervous when I got to school. I walked into my homeroom, and I felt relieved. The teacher was a pretty young teacher. She was short and had choppy black hair, longer than Alice’s though. She smiled at me and I smiled, or I hope I did, back. She showed me where my seat was and it was by a skinny girl with long brown hair.

“Hi. I’m Angela.” She introduced herself. I smiled back, “I’m Bella.”

“Want me to show you around?”

“Okay.” My first class was Math. Angela helped me and I was grateful. How was I supposed to know 60 times 12 is? Then I had reading and she had science. Reading was easy and a met a boy, Mike. He followed me around like a lost puppy. I wasn’t used to that and he made me nervous. Once, he went to ask the teacher something and when he came back, he put his hands over my eyes. I hunkered down and he let go and looked at me strangely. I had embarrassed myself. Then I had social studies and Angela was with me in that switch. I had lunch and I barley ate. I was way too nervous. And then my last switch was science. This was the class I hated the most. Every one seemed to hate me in that room. Even the teacher. I went home, exhausted. When I came home, the T.V. was on. I was about to turn it off when the news lady was in front of a house I knew.

“And this is the house that was reported to have a foul odor coming from. When police investigated, they found the body of 39 year old Phil Dwyer. Apparently, Dwyer lived all alone and was murdered, coming home to a robber. Well bring you more information at 5. Back to you, Dave.” I shut off the T.V. in a daze. Phil was dead. He can’t hurt me. I was instantly filled with joy, but that’s why they wanted to adopt me. They didn’t want me living on my own. My joy disintegrated and I carried my bag up the stairs and sat in a daze until Esme came looking for me.

“You don’t really want me, do you? You just don’t want me to be homeless, right? It’s okay. You don’t have to do that. I’m sure you could return me or something.” I mumbled, barley eligible. Esme put here hand around me, awkwardly. “Bella. That’s not why we want you. I love you. I want you to be safe. I want you to be happy. Forever!” She tilted my head to her and wiped away my tears. She looked me in the eye, “I really do.” When she said that a whole new flood of tears ran down my cheek and I held on to her and cried. And Esme just let me and held me tight. She walked me to bed and as I drifted off, I whispered, “Good Night, Mom.” Esme smiled and I realized it wasn’t my mom, “I mean.. Es-“ She cut me off. “You can call me mom.” She reassured me and I fell into a deep sleep after I felt her kiss me on the forehead. That was my first kiss I’ve had since I was tiny…
