chapter 19

THE NEXT DAY- LUNCH TIME

After I got my tray, I looked around for Jake. I saw him at the crowded table he was a yesterday. I walked over to it and smiled, "Hey."

"Hi." We sat in silence for a while, I listened to the table’s chatter. A boy with dark hair seemed super nice. He had a talent to make the whole table laugh. He was cute in a… little brother way. I couldn’t help but notice that every time he did something to make the table laugh, he would look up expectantly to Jake and Jake would laugh softly and the boy would have a look of triumph on his face. They looked some what alike and I wondered if they were related. Then he asked me if I liked animals.

"Yeah. But I really only like dogs. Do you like animals?"

"Uh, Yeah." He said after a moment of debating with himself. "I really seem to be attached to dogs." He chuckled softly at something I obviously didn't get.

"Do you have any animals?" I nodded.

"I have a dog. He's been my best friend. You?" He shook his head.

"Nope. But I can spend as much time with them as I want." Again he smiled at some thing I didn't get.

We had a lot of things in common. But I didn't tell him about...Phil. That was one part of my life I wanted to forget. I felt a prickly feeling on my neck and I glanced around the lunch room. All of the Cullen’s were staring at me with a look of anger, even Alice. I smiled in her direction and she shook her head and looked the other way. They all got up and walked past my table. The table went quiet as they walked past and Rosalie whispered loudly, “Remember who saved you!” With enough venom in her voice to kill me ten times over. Jakes eye’s followed them all the way out then turned to me.

“What does she mean, ‘Remember who saved you’?” Now the whole table was looking at me and I felt like I could cry. “Bella, are you okay?” Leah asked. I shook my head and got up to leave and ran to the bathroom, mumbling, “Sorry, I gotta go.” After I got into the bathroom I started to cry hard. The door opened and Leah came in.

“Hey. What’s wrong? Why did you run out?” She wrapped her arm around me and it all came out. I told her everything. Stuff I didn’t even tell Alice. Leah just had something about her that told me that she wouldn’t tell. By the time I finished, she was crying slightly at my child hood and we missed two of our classes. The final bell rang, but we sat their for a while longer. When we walked out, every one was gone.

“Sorry you missed you ride.” I told her wiping the last of my tears away.

“It’s fine, I’ll Just call Paul.” She smiled when she said his name. “He’s my boyfriend. I seriously Love him.” She smiled again and dialed his number.

“Hey, honey. Could you come pick me and my friend Bella up?”

“Okay. See you soon. Love you.” And she hung up. Minutes later, A guy in a dark blue car pulled into the school.

Leah opened the passenger seat and I got in the back.

“Paul, Bella. Bella, Paul.” She introduced us.

“Hi.” I said, but he just glared at me through the rear view mirror.

“Where you going?” He asked roughly.

“116 Hanger Drive.” I recited the Cullen’s address. His eyes narrowed and drove me there in silence. He stopped outside the entrance of the driveway and I got out.

I walked down to the house and I was met with an alarming sight. Alice was yelling at Rosalie. I couldn’t hear what she was saying, she was saying it so fast. Alice’s eyes where pitch black and she leaned down like she was going to tie her shoe, but she looked up and a small smile appeared on her face. But it was more of a show-your-teeth smile. I ran over to them and stood in front of Rosalie.

“Alice! Don’t!” I yelled. Confusion crossed her face and she stood up slowly, her eyes still pitched black. Rosalie pushed me aside.

“I don’t need a…a…werewolf lover to protect me!” She shouted and Alice sprang…
