Phil was still in a rant when Bella walked in.

“Where were you?!” Phil yelled. Bella’s heart pounded uneasily against her chest.

“I-I’m s-s-sorry.” Bella whimpered.

“Yeah you will be when I’m through with you.” Phil growled as he walked toward her. Bella cowered down against the door. He jerked her up by her hair. “Where were you?” He yelled in her face. She wouldn’t tell him, which, in turn, made him madder. Phil threw her against the wall and when she fell on the floor, he kicked her over and over again.

“W-w-why d-do y-you h-h-hate m-me s-so mu-much?” Bella asked quietly. (Why do you hate me so much) Phil heard her and stopped to glare at her. He gave her one more hard kick to the ribs.

“You’re worthless. No one wants you.” He told her and left. Bella laid, broken, on the floor until the next day when someone knocked on the door. She scrambled to get up because know one was supposed to know she was here. She couldn’t get up easily. Her side hurt horribly. She whimpered a little as she hurried into the kitchen. Phil opened up the door and she heard a familiar voice… Carlisle?’ Bella wondered. She walked to the door and listened to the conversation.

Bella’s P.O.V.

“Hello, are you Phil Dwyer?” Carlisle asked.

“Who wants to know?” Phil replied, rudely.

“Well, I’m here to inform you that social services will be taking your daughter, Isabella.”

“Why?”

“Well, I have reason to believe that you abuse her. Is she her now?”

“No, she ran away. I’ve looked every where for her. She was gone this morning when I woke up. I was about to tell the police, but I figured that I’d look for her first. Its not classified as a missing child until 24 hours has passed since she went missing.” I could practically feel him congratulating his self for thinking of that on so quick. I quickly stumbled out into the living room in clear view of the door.

Carlisle held up a badge and pushed his way through. Phil grabbed his arm to stop him. Carlisle turned around slowly.

“Please remove your hand or I’ll remove it for you.” Carlisle threatened through his teeth. Phil didn’t even flinch. Then, Emmett, I think, and Edward showed up at the door. Phil took one look at Emmett and dropped his hand.

“Thank you.” Carlisle said sarcastically. Edward came up to me and lifted me up. Tightening his grip on me when he walked past Phil. I screamed because he touched my side/rib. He ran to his car and put me in. He drove to his mansion and Carlisle was there. I didn’t remember seeing him pass us…

“Carlisle. Something is wrong with her side.” Edward said in a rush. We flew up to the room I went into on my first day here. Edward laid me on the table after slowly removing my shirt. Carlisle was right behind us. He applied slight pressure and I winced.

“Broken ribs.” I heard him mutter. He rushed out of the room and returned with a big machine. He took pictures with it of my rib and looked at his computer. “Luckily she didn’t puncture anything. That could have been messy.” He ran out of the room and brought a body cast. He slipped it around me and told me not to move. All I really remember was the unbearable pain and I wished that he would make it stop.

6 WEEKS LATER

I woke up, again, to see Edwards smile. I smiled back and he dropped his. I immediately dropped mine too.

“Bella. We have to go to court.” I was confused. Had I done something wrong? My brows furrowed in confusion.

“Your step-dad is filing charges. He found out that Carlisle didn’t work for social services. He is suing us for… for you.” He said glancing down. My heart raced. “Just when I was getting better. Will I ever get away from him?” I must have muttered this out loud because Edward answered me.

“You won’t have to go back to him. I won’t ever, EVER, let him have you again.” He vowed. He got me dressed and we rode with Alice and Carlisle and Jasper and Esme and Emmett. For some reason, it seemed like Emmett was with someone, yet, I never met her.

When we got to a big building, we had to go through a metal detector and I was really nervous. Jasper and Edward lead me to a bench in the front of the room and the rest of them sat behind me. A crossed the room on another bench, was Phil and a lady dressed up like Jasper (Jasper is the lawyer). The judge started talking, but I couldn’t focus on anything but Phil and how close to me he was. Then I was called up to sit on a bench next to the judge.

“Did Phil Dwyer ever hit you?” The lady asked me. I glanced at Phil, and he grinned. For some reason that frightened me.

“N-no.”

“So Phil Dwyer never hurt you or starved you?”

“N-no.” I said again as I glanced at Phil. “So, you see Judge, they had no reason to take her away from a home she was content at…” Her voice faded as I looked at Edward. His face was sad. I wanted to run over and hug him. The judge banged her hammer and said, “I have ordered that Isabella Dwyer lives…”
