13. Chapter 13: High School

Rating 0/5   Word Count 6064   Review this Chapter

It was a cloudy late August morning. Rosalie, Emmett, Edward, and I headed to school in Edward’s Volvo. Jasper, Alice, Jacob, and Nessie headed to school on their motorcycles.

Edward, Alice, Nessie and I were freshmen and Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, and Jacob were sophomores. Edward, Alice, Nessie, and Emmett were the Cullens. Rosalie, Jasper, and I were the Hales. And Jacob was the Black.

It didn’t take us long to arrive at school.

Edward and I had all our classes together. We headed to our first class, English. Mr. Stanly was our teacher.

Classes flew by fast. We did get a few side glances from some people. The people here had been in the same schools since they were in daycare. It reminded me of my first day at Forks high school except it wasn’t Forks high it was Fox River high.

Fox River was a small town with a population of six hundred sixteen people. I now didn’t mind the small town.

Finally lunch came. We headed to the cafeteria. Edward took us to a table in the back which apparently was always empty. Emmett and Rosalie soon joined us with Jasper and Alice on their heels. Nessie came a few minutes after Alice and Jasper.

“Hey,” she said.

“How’s your day going so far?” I asked her.

“Thanks for the whole home schooling thing dad,” she said this so fast no one had a prayer of hearing her. “The stuff in class is so easy.”

“Where’s Jacob?” Rosalie asked.

“He went to go get us lunch,” she sat down next to Alice. She flipped her hair off her shoulder. “I don’t like human food much, but I’ll eat it to keep us in hiding.”

“How was your day Bella?” Emmett asked.

“Yawn,” I said.

“Now you know how we felt when we were at Forks high,” he chuckled.

“Hi,” a girl’s voice said.

I looked up at her. She was about five-four, with short blond curly hair. Her hair was pulled back in a sloppy low ponytail. Her skin was a few shades lighter than Jacob’s but darker than ours. She had on a pair of pink glasses on with a white long sleeved top and blue jeans with tennis shoes. She wore a heart shaped necklace and a watch. She had a pencil stuck behind her ear and a reporters’ notepad in her hand. Her backpack was balancing on her right shoulder.

“I’m Amy and I’m on the school paper and we were wondering if we could get an interview about your family, since you just moved here and all,” the voice said.

I noticed as she spoke she didn’t take her eyes off Edward, Emmett, and Jasper. For some odd reason I was jealous. I knew that Edward and I were married so this shouldn’t bother me, right?

Wrong! This bothered me a lot.

“Well were not exactly settled in yet,” Rosalie said also noticing that she spoke only to the boys. “And are stepfather, Carlisle, doesn’t want us to attract too much attention to our family.”

“But it’s like in all the local papers that you moved here,” Amy said. “The whole school just wants to know who you all are. And I need a cover story. You guys would be on the front page of the paper.”

“Thanks but no thanks,” Rosalie said giving her the same cold shoulder she gave me in the beginning of Edward and mine’s relationship.

“Rose,” Alice said. “One story wouldn’t be that big of a deal.”

Alice looked to see what would happen if we did the story.

“Fine,” Rosalie said. “But one story only.”

“Great,” the girl said. “When can I get an interview with you guys?” Obviously she only meant the guys. She had already opened her notepad to a blank page and was pulling her pencil out of her hair.

“Today after school,” Edward said. “That way we won’t have to have it on our minds that long. Do you want the whole family?”

“Well,” she said. “Only the . . . kids of your family. Not your parents.”

“So you want Jacob too,” Edward said.

“Who?” the girl Amy said.

Just then Jacob came and kissed Nessie on the check he had the lunch tray with him, which was packed with food.

“Jacob,” Edward said nodding toward him.

“What I do?” Jacob said.

“This, I’m sorry I forgot your name,” Edward said. He really didn’t forget her name he was just saying that to basically tell her he was not interested.

“It’s Amy,” she smiled.

“Amy here wants to do an article on our family,” Edward said. “She’s going to interview all of us after school today.”

“What?” Jacob asked.

“She wants to know more about are family and our siblings and when Carlisle and Esme adopted us,” Nessie said with her hand on his face.

“Okay,” he said. His eyes popped open a little and glazed over in response to what Nessie was showing him and he had a goofy grin on his face. I really didn’t want to know.

“Well, I’ll see you after school,” she said. She closed her notepad and stuck her pencil behind her ear again. “Bye.” She walked away her curls bouncing as she went.

“Nessie,” Edward said. “You had to show that to Jacob when she was standing here. Also leave your memories at home.”

“Sorry,” she said. “Jacob just didn’t like the thought of her interviewing us; I showed that to him to calm him down.” Jacob was grinning, lost in what Nessie had showed him.

“Was it just me,” Rosalie said. “Or did she look like she was flirting with the guys.”

“No it wasn’t just you,” I said as I looked at Edward.

“You’re beautiful,” Edward said. “I love you.”

“Was she or was she not thinking what Rosalie and I thought she was thinking?” I asked him ignoring his comment.

“She was thinking that,” Edward said.

“Then why did you agree to have the interview?” Rosalie hissed.

“I agreed so that the school will know that were taken,” Edward said his arm around my waist pulling me closer to him. “And I won’t have to listen to all these stupid males, and it’s not just the students.”

“Excuse me?” I asked.

“The adults at the school can get a little carried away with their thoughts. Not like they would try anything, in less they want to lose their job.”

“Alice,” Jasper said. “What will happen with the interview?”

“She’ll ask us all these ridiculous questions,” Alice said. “Rosalie a little tip.”

“What?” Rosalie asked.

“Be a little nicer,” Alice said. “She just wants her story to get a good review so she can get an internship with someone.”

“Fine,” Rosalie said. “I’ll give her all the details she wants. Except for two.”

We all knew what those two were. We would have to be on are guard when the girl Amy interviewed us.

Edward and I walked to our next class which we had with Nessie.

Nessie sighed.

“Nessie what is it?” I asked her.

“What?” she asked. Clearly I had woken her from some far off day dream.

“What were you thinking about a moment ago?” I asked.

“It’s nothing,” she said right as she went scarlet.

“Edward?” I asked as I turned to face him.

“She was thinking about the babies,” he whispered to me “and about the night that they were conceived.”

“I remember the night that she was conceived,” I whispered to him. “That was the best night of my human life.”

“That is not my favorite night,” Edward said.

“Why not?” I asked hurt just like I was that first morning of our honeymoon.

“I did enjoy it,” he said. “But I have had better nights, those nights were after we had Nessie, do you remember?”

“You mean the first night after I was changed?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“I remember that night,” I said. “Every little detail.”

We had reached our class now. Nessie was still staring off into space.

Nessie had the desk in front of me, Edward was next to me. We were in the last row. There was a blond boy next to me. He reminded me of Mike.

Right before class started Nessie sighed, I kicked the back of the chair to get her out of her day dreams. She jumped ever so slightly.

“Good morning class,” the teacher said. “I am Mr. Medina; I will be your Geometry teacher. Now let’s start roll. Edward Cullen?”

“Here sir,” Edward said.

“Renesmee Cullen?”

“Nessie sir,” Nessie said.

“Like the sea serpent?” Mr. Medina asked.

“Yeah,” she said.

“Anne Drew?” he continued. I tuned out for this.

“Isabella Hale?” he asked. Edward squeezed the hand he was holding.

“Bella sir,” I said.

He nodded.

The teacher finished roll quickly. He went straight into his Geometry lesson.

After Geometry we had Gym with Emmett.

When I got to the girls locker room I noticed that the girl Amy was in my class. Yay! Not.

The Gym teacher Mr. Simons had us dress out. The class was in there basketball unit.

If I was human I would have been terrified to play, but since I was a vampire I didn’t care. Basketball was easy for us.

“This is boring,” Emmett said after a while. We were partners; Mr. Simons had us pass the ball back and forth. “I mean . . .”

“Think fast,” I said as I through the ball with more force than a human could.

“Nice through Bella,” Mr. Simons said. “A little less force though. I don’t want you to hurt your step-brother.”

“If I through the ball with all my force I still wouldn’t be able to hurt him,” I said. “Thanks for the advice though.” I heard Edward chuckle to him self all the way across the gym.

“Still,” Mr. Simons said. “When we play games I don’t want you hurting the other players.”

“I won’t,” I promised.

“Alice told me in class that there was going to be a thunder storm tonight,” Emmett whispered. “You and Edward up for a little two on two with me and Rosalie.”

“Why so you can lose?” I asked.

“I’m going to win,” Emmett said. “I know it.”

“In your dreams,” I said. “I may not be as strong as I was before but I beat you when we arm wrestled, remember?”

“That was months ago,” Emmett said. “And plus my hot wife will be playing too.”

“Did you even ask Rosalie yet?” I asked him.

“Yup,” he said. “She really wants to cream you and Edward. Plus Alice and Jasper are going up against Nessie and Jake. The winners are going to play one another.”

“Nessie probably wants to spend time with her sons,” I said. “They are only babies for a while. What if they need Jacob tonight?”

“They said that they would check in with each other every now and then,” Emmett shrugged.

“They said everyday before and after school,” I said.

“Emmett,” Edward said from across the gym. “You are going to lose.”

“No we’re not,” Emmett said.

“Trust me on this Emmett,” Edward said. “You are going to say something that will piss Bella off.”

“What?” Emmett said. “You mean when I tell her she’s not pretty.”

“You asked for it,” Edward said.

I through the ball at Emmett with all the force I had. I could hear Alice’s laugh from a block away, along with Rosalie’s.

“You are going to lose tonight,” I said.

“You go mom,” I heard Nessie say from one of her classes.

“All right class,” Mr. Simons said. “That is good for today. Tomorrow we will start shooting. Class is dismissed.”

Edward walked over to us. “Was that fun?” he asked me.

“What do you think?” I answered him.

“Do you like being a vamp now?” Emmett asked me.

“I don’t know,” I said.

“What the heck is that supposed to mean?” he asked me.

“Figure it out,” I said. “I’ll meet you outside.”

I quickly changed. When I went outside I saw Edward and Emmett looking at each. Looking wasn’t the right word, glaring was a better word.

Edward’s head whipped around. I noticed he wasn’t looking at me but at another girl that was behind me.

I walked over to Edward and took his hand. “You okay?” I asked him.

“I will be when we cream Emmett,” he smirked.

“You’re going down,” Emmett said.

“We’re going to win, we’re going to win,” Edward chanted.

Just then the bell rang. We walked to the car and motorcycles to wait for everyone. It didn’t take them long to come.

“I cannot wait till we get home,” Rosalie said.

“You guys are going to lose,” I said. “We are going to win.”

“Let’s get this interview over with,” Jasper said.

The girl Amy walked towards us now.

“Okay,” she said. “Who wants to go first?”

“We could all go at the same time,” Alice said. “Esme is waiting for us at home; she’ll want to know everything.”

“Okay,” Amy said. “When were you guys all adopted?”

“Rosalie and I were eight,” Jasper said.

“I was seven,” I said.

“Eight also,” Edward said.

“Nine,” Emmett said.

“I was ten,” Jacob said.

“I was eight too,” Nessie said.

“Do you guys all get along?” Amy asked.

“Well,” I said. “Most of the time.”

“There have been a few fights among all of us,” Edward said.

“Yeah,” Rosalie said. “Like when Nessie was fist adopted, I thought she was coming and taking my space. We got into a huge fight, Alice and I got a long supper well. And Bella and I well were just two normal sisters.”

“When Jacob started having feelings for Ness, I was out of control. Emmett and I gave him a good beating. But when I first kissed Bella, Ow! Jasper got me right in the jaw. It was not very enjoyable,” my wonderful husband said.

“But I got Jasper back for Edward when Jasper and Alice started to date,” Emmett said.

“Did you guys have a crush on any of your brothers or siblings?” she asked us.

“Bella and I have been together since we were twelve,” Edward said.

“Jasper and I have been together since he was twelve and I was eleven,” Alice said.

“Emmett and I since we were ten,” Rosalie said. “We have had the longest relationship.”

“I was thirteen when Jacob and I started dating,” Nessie said.

“I was fourteen at the time,” Jacob said.

“Do you like Dr. Cullen and Mrs. Cullen?” she asked.

“We all like them,” Edward said.

“It’s easier to talk to them,” Rosalie said. “It might be because they are not are real parents so we have a better relationship with them.”

“Yeah,” Emmett said. “Carlisle is like the peace maker. Any time we fight he is always there to get us to stop.”

“He is great for support,” I said. “Any time you need to talk to him he will always find time no matter what. Same with Esme. They always are there for us.”

“Carlisle is just great,” Nessie said. “He is very understanding and calm, very loving, and firm when he really needs to be. He almost never loses his temper. In all the time that I’ve known him I think he only lost it once. Esme is just well the typical mom you can always go too.” She winked at me.

“Were did you guys move from?” Amy asked.

“A small town is Washington,” Emmett said. “You wouldn’t know were it is.”

“Okay,” Amy said, blushing a little.

“We would love to stay and tell you more,” Edward said. “But we have to go.”

“’Kay,” Amy said going scarlet. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

She practically ran to her friend’s car.

“That was fun,” Rosalie said.

“Emmett you drive,” I said.

“Why?” Emmett asked.

“Because I told you to,” I said. “And I want to sit in the back with Edward.”

Rosalie and Emmett sat in the front while Edward and I sat in the back. As soon as Emmett started driving I put my arms around Edward’s neck and kissed him.

Edward kissed me back. We sat there kissing never coming up for air –- since we didn’t need it. I was so into kissing him I forgot where we were.

“A little less lip action please,” Rosalie said.

“Sorry,” I tried to say around Edward’s lips.

“Rosalie, go away,” Edward said.

Edward and I then continued to kiss. We kept on kissing for the whole ride home. Rosalie didn’t say anything, but when she thought something Edward just kissed me harder.

When we got home Rosalie said “Oh get a room.”

“Rosalie, what is it?” Esme asked.

“The two love birds,” she answered.

“What did Nessie and Jacob due?”

“Not them,” Rosalie said. “Them!” Rosalie pointed at Edward and me walking in. Edward had both arms around me and was kissing my whole face and I was kissing him when I could reach his face.

“Please tell me you left this at home,” Esme said.

“Sorry mom,” Edward said. “We made-out a lot at school.”

“You did what?!” Esme yelled.

“We only held hands,” I said. “We did this on the ride home though. Edward stop.” I giggled.

“Why should I?” Edward asked between kisses.

“Because I don’t want everyone knowing what we do in our room,” I told him. “That is between me and you.”

“And Emmett,” Emmett said.

“And definitely not Emmett,” I said.

“You do have a point there,” Edward said.

“Mommy,” EJ said running to Nessie. Nessie lifted him up into her arms. “Mommy, mommy, Esme showed me how to draw pictures with colored pencils. It was so much fun. And today CB and I were playing on the tree and CB fell off and broke his arm.”

“What?! Esme,” Nessie said. “Is he okay?”

“He’s fine,” Esme said. “I called Carlisle when he fell and Carlisle took his ‘lunch’ break early to come and set his arm.”

“Daddy,” EJ reached for Jacob.

“Where’s CB?” Nessie asked.

“Upstairs in his room,” Esme said. “His arm was hurting so he went upstairs and got into bed. Oh Nessie you should have seen him, he was so cute.”

“Emmett do you mind?” Jacob asked as he held out the baby.

“No,” Emmett said. He took EJ in his arms and bounced him up and down “You going to rock out with me and Rose?”

“Yea,” EJ said.

“I’m going to go check in with Seth,” Jacob said.

“How was school?” Esme asked us.

“Boring,” I said.

“We relearned everything we learned at Forks high,” Emmett said.

“This girl Amy,” Rosalie said. “Wanted an interview with us for the paper and she was flirting with Emmett, Edward, and Jasper.”

“And Jacob,” I added.

“Really?” Esme said. “What did you guys do about it?”

“We pretended that we didn’t notice,” I said. “Even though it was easy to tell that she was flirting with them.”

“How was your day?” Alice asked.

“Good,” Esme said. “The boys played outside for a while, after CB broke his arm Tanya came to visit. The whole family is going to come tomorrow.”

“That will be fun,” I said. “When’s the game going to start, Alice?”

“In a few hours,” Alice said. “That gives you enough time to be alone with Edward, you don’t have to ask.”

“Thanks,” I said. “Edward . . .”

“Already a step a head of you,” Edward said. “Let’s go.”

We went straight for our room. The room looked exactly like Edward’s old room, including the bed with the roses on it and the millions of records, tapes, and CDs. The coach was pushed up against one wall.

As soon as we got to our room Edward and I started kissing. Edward pushed me down on the bed, my head hit the pillow. Edward was leaning over me.

“Sorry,” Edward said.

“I don’t mind,” I said. I reached up to kiss him.

“Edward, Bella,” Alice called. “The game’s going to start in a minute. Bella I have a cute outfit for you to wear during the game.”

“Alice it’s a baseball game,” I said. “I don’t need a cute outfit.”

“Oh calm down,” Alice said. “It’s a uniform Edward has a matching one too. Please Bella please.”

“Alice,” I said. “You’re doing the depressed face again aren’t you?”

“Yes,” she did her sad voice.

“Fine,” I said.

“Thank you Bella I love you.”

Alice started running up the stairs. When she was about to walk in I said, “Alice don’t move.”

“Why?” Alice asked.

“Make the decision to move and see what will happen,” I told her.

“Oh,” she said after a minute. “I’ll just put these outside of you room. Bye.”

Edward went and grabbed the clothes that Alice had left outside our room. The clothes were like any baseball uniforms. They had our initials on the right corners on the front of the shirts and the numbers on the back. Our color was blue. Emmett and Rosalie’s was pink, Alice and Jasper’s was lavender, Nessie’s and Jacob’s was green, and Carlisle and Esme’s was black (they were referring the games).

We were in a different clearing that was a lot bigger than the one in Forks. This made it possible to have two games at a time.

“You’re going down,” Emmett said.

“We’re going to win,” I said.

We started the game and Edward and I ended up winning the game.

“Told you so,” I said.

“I hate you,” he said.

“No you don’t,” Edward said. “You’re just depressed that you lost the game.”

“Oh. Go away.”

“We won,” I heard Nessie yell. “We won.”

“Now you have to go up against your parents,” Edward said. “Won’t this be fun?”

“Bye,” Nessie said as she pretended to run away.

We played a quick game. Edward and I went easy on them so that they would end up winning and evidently they did.

After the game, Nessie spent the night with her sons. Everything seemed as if it would be perfect as long as we lived here.

The next day at school everyone had the school paper. For the amount of information we gave Amy she used all of it in her article. There was a picture of all of us on the front and when they were talking about the different relationships they had only the two they were talking about. This day would not be good.

We got through English and French without a word from anybody, but in History the teacher told us that the article that Amy wrote on us was very good and hoped that it didn’t cause too much trouble for us.

Geometry was fine. Mr. Medina thought that Edward and I were very good in math. He also thought that we should be in a higher math class but since the school wouldn’t allow it we stayed where we were.

When Emmett and I were on the same team for basketball he complained about the stupid article.

“She probably only wanted to write it to say ‘I talked to the Cullen, and Hale boys. The Black boy is dating one of the Cullen girls though, so he’s taken, but I don’t care all of them are so, so hot’,” Emmett said in a good imitation of her voice.

“Who knows Emmett?” I said. “And if you really wanted to know, you just have to ask my husband.”

“We are playing against him,” Emmett said. He then ran over to guard Edward. “So why did that girl Amy want to interview us?”

“She wanted her name to be on the front page of the newspaper,” Edward said.

“Emmett, switch with me,” I said.

Emmett went to guard a guy who was close to the same height as him and I went over to guard my husband.

“Are you having fun?” Edward asked me.

“I was having fun last night,” I answered. “If I had fun with that, then you know the answer to your own question.”

“I had fun last night too,” he said. “None of your business.”

“Excuse me,” I said.

“I was talking to Emmett,” he said. “He wanted to know what we did last night.”

“No way in hell is he going to find out,” I said. “And why don’t he and Rosalie go do what Emmett things you and I do at night. He would get off of our backs and he would be a lot happier if they did.”

“It’s good advice Emmett,” Edward said.

“I didn’t think about that,” Emmett said. “How ‘bout it Rose?”

“Thanks a lot Bella,” I heard Rosalie said.

“Have fun tonight,” I said.

“What do you want to do tonight?” Edward asked me.

I didn’t want Emmett to hear so I pushed my shield out. I could now do it with out having to concentrate very much.

“Okay,” Edward said.

“Really?!” I said “You’re okay with that?”

“I’m fine with that Bella,” he said. “After all we are married and you’re not human anymore.”

“Right,” I said.

“Okay, class,” Mr. Simons said. “I want one person form each team to tell me the scores so that I will see which teams should play which tomorrow.”

Since our teams had a tie Mr. Simons said we would play each other again. This was fine with us.

“Class is dismissed,” he said.

Edward put his arm around my waist as we headed from the far side of the gym to the locker rooms were Emmett was waiting.

“You guys have any plans for tonight?” Emmett asked.

“Tanya’s family is coming to visit us,” I said. “So not tonight. But tomorrow night, yes. Why?”

“Just wondering what you two were doing tonight,” Emmett said.

“Homework and trying to hide from Alice,” I said.

Emmett’s eyebrows pulled together. “Why are you hiding from Alice? Did you piss her off?”

“No,” I said. “I ripped the baseball uniform that she made.”

“Wait, really?” Emmett asked. “There’s going to be a chick fight?”

“No, Emmett,” I said. “And that was a joke. I didn’t do anything. Alice and I are still good friends and apparently we always will be.”

“Um. Mr. Cullen and Miss Hale,” Mr. Simons said. “I’d like to speak to you two.”

“Which one, me or Emmett,” Edward asked.

“Both of you,” Mr. Simons said. “Sorry about that, I should have been specific.”

Edward’s arm tightened around me due to someone’s thoughts. “It’s okay,” Edward said. “What do you want to tell us?”

“I heard that you two are dating,” Mr. Simons said as he looked at me and Edward. “Also you and your step sister,” Mr. Simons looked at Emmett. “I just want to make sure that you three know the rules here about the display of physical emotion.”

“What about it?” I asked.

“We do not tolerate making out,” Mr. Simons told us. “No hands any where they are not supposed to be.” He looked at Edward and Emmett when he said this, before he turned to look me in the eye.

“Is my arm around her, okay?” Edward asked.

“Yes, that is fine,” Mr. Simons said. “No long kisses. You may have your arms around each other, hugging is okay, cuddling up is okay when you are in the lunch room, holding hands is fine, and kisses on the check are fine.”

“Are we allowed to kiss each other on the lips?” I asked. “If it is only a brief kiss.”

“Yes, Miss Hale that is completely allowed,” Mr. Simons said. “But please do not push the boundaries, do not tease the boundaries, obey the rules.”

“We will,” Edward said his voice hard. What was going on?

“And would you please tell your siblings about this also,” Mr. Simons said. “That way I do not have to tell them all at different times.”

“Yes we will,” Emmett said.

We quickly changed and headed for the car. When we got there only Rosalie was there, the motorcycles were gone too.

“Hey!” she said. “How was the end of your guys’ day?”

“Mr. Simons talked to us about the display of physical emotion after class today,” I said. “That was interesting.”

“What?!” Rosalie said as she got in the car with the rest of us.

“Oh. Yeah,” I said. “He wanted us to know what the rules were here about physical emotion display.”

“That’s nice,” she said sarcastically.

“At least he can’t control us at home,” Emmett said. “That would be weird if he could.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if in a year or two he would want to make sure that we were not having sex,” I said.

“How did you know?” Edward asked.

“What?”

“In one year, if we are still dating,” Edward said “we will be, he is going to talk to us about having safe sex. A year after that he will ask us if we are having sex.”

“Edward are you serious?” Emmett asked him. “I mean that would be weird telling him that we are married and that we are vampires.”

“Emmett,” I said. “That is why we lie.”

“Duh,” Emmett said. “That was a joke.”

We were already home now. I could hear Tanya’s laugh, along with Kate’s and Cameron’s. Eleazar was upstairs talking with Carlisle.

“Mom,” Nessie said as I walked in. “You missed it. EJ just said that he heard strange noises coming form yours and dad’s room.”

“What kind of noises?” I asked EJ.

“Sucking ones,” EJ said.

“Are you sure it was from our room?”

He nodded.

“Well that wasn’t us,” I said. “That was from Rosalie’s and Emmett’s room.”

“Are you sure about that mom?” Nessie asked. “When I was younger I heard sucking noises too and that was at the cottage.”

“Nessie you should learn to hold your tongue,” I said. “Now that you’re older though, I’m sure you know what those noises were.”

“No, I still don’t,” she said.

“Nessie,” I shook my head. “You have two children, due the math.”

She looked at me for a second. “Oh,” she said her eyebrows rising and her eyes popping open her mouth making a perfect ‘o’ shape. “I didn’t know that. Okay, that is kind of obvious.”

“Bella,” Edward complained.

“What?”

“You just had to tell her that,” Edward said. “I mean I don’t exactly want my daughter knowing that stuff.”

I rolled my eyes at Edward. He could just deal with it I thought with my shield pushed out. It’s not like we were doing anything that was wrong at night. My head filled with images form previous nights. Edward’s jaw dropped.

“Hey!” I said as I turned to Tanya and Kate. “How are you guys?”

“We’re good,” Tanya said. “How about you?”

“Fine,” I said. “High school is even more boring the second time through then it was the first time through.”

“That’s what we hear,” Kate said. “Sorry you have to go through that.”

“Its fine just obnoxious,” I said.

“You never answered my question,” Emmett said.

“Which question?” I asked.

“How do you like being a vamp now?” he asked me again.

“I told you to figure it out,” I said.

“I haven’t figured it out,” Emmett said. “Just tell me the answer, please. I need to know this, please tell me.”

“Should I keep torching him?” I asked Edward. I pushed my shield out so that Edward would see what my answer was.

He waited a minute before he answered my question. He was taking the time to read all of my thoughts. “Yes,” Edward said. “I don’t think he wants to know that anyways so you are doing him a big favor."

“Did we miss something?” Kate asked. “How come he knew your answer?”

Should we tell them? I thought. They do have a right to know. Do you think that we should tell them? I mean Kate looks really eager for the answer. Edward are you even paying attention to me? Edward chuckled. Nod if you are listening. Edward nodded. I still cannot stop thinking about last night. That was so tremendous that we beat all of them when we played baseball. And that amazing award you gave me after the game. Edward’s eyes grew wider at the memory I played. Where’s Jacob? I haven’t seen him since we were at school. Edward looked at me. When Edward just looked at me he meant that he would tell me later. You can tell me later. Anyways should we tell Kate and Tanya? Eleazar would want to know. I just don’t exactly want Kate to know though. If you think that we should tell them then we will. Nod once if we should not tell them and nod twice if you think that we should tell them. Edward nodded twice. Okay, but you are telling them not me. I love you.

“I love you too,” Edward said to me.

“Are you guys going to explain anything?” Kate asked.

“Ten years ago when the Volturi came all of our friends came,” Edward said. “Bella then needed to learn how to project her shield.”

“Yes, Edward we remember,” Eleazar said. He had come down to hear the story that Edward was telling.

“After the Volturi left Bella showed me something,” Edward said. “Something that would help people like me get a read on her.” He paused at the memory of when I first showed him my mind. “Bella was learning at the same time how to push her shield out to let me read her mind. She was working on this at the same time she was working on projecting her shield.

“Now she let’s me read her mind at night. That is when she practices it and when she wants to tell me something that isn’t that big of a deal to others, but she wants to share it in private. It comes in handy now that we are in school,” he said.

“You can read her mind now?!” Tanya asked.

“Is that the secret that you were referring to with Aro?” Kate asked.

“Only when she let’s me read her mind,” Edward said. “If she goes to long with out letting me read her mind I know that something is up and that she is probably keeping something from me.”

“Yes but sometimes that might be a good think I’m keeping from you,” I said. “Like what I am going to get you for our anniversary.”

“That is true.”

“Grandma,” CB said as he ran down the steps. I scoped him up into my arms. His broken arm was just a sprain now. “Who are they?”

“That is Tanya and Kate,” Edward pointed out. “And that is Cameron and Eleazar.”

“Are they shape-shifters or vampires?” CB asked us in a quiet voice.

“Vampires,” I said. “Don’t worry though they are nice vampires.”

“How’s your arm?” Edward asked.

“Good,” CB said. “Hurts when I touching it.”

It hurts when I touch it,” Nessie corrected.

“Nessie you don’t need to correct him,” I said. “We all knew what he meant. And he isn’t even a year old.”

“Oh well,” she flipped her hair off of her shoulder. “I never talked like that, and I don’t want my son talking light that.”

“He is not going to age the same way you did,” Edward said. “Remember he is part shape-shifter and part human. Both age slower than a half human half vampire.”

“That doesn’t mean that he has to use improper grammar,” Nessie said.

Tanya laughed. “We came here thinking it would be like our family, but here you stand talking like a human daughter and a human father,” she said.

Tanya’s clan only stayed for a few more hours. We caught up on everything that had happened. I told them about Charlie and how I had told him the truth. We told them that we thought that Charlie should know and it wouldn’t hurt anything because he was dying. We also planned a hunting trip with them.

Jacob wasn’t there for the whole time. Had something gone wrong? Was he needed at La Push? Would Nessie and Jacob move back to Forks?

The unanswered questions seemed continuous in my head. It was like an endless sea of questions.
