9. Chapter 9: More than Expected

Rating 0/5   Word Count 2843   Review this Chapter

"Mom," Nessie called one afternoon. She sounded like she was going into hysteria.

“Yes?” I asked worried.

“It’s time,” she said.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean it’s time,” she repeated. “As in he’s coming.”

“Who’s coming?” I was so confused.

“The baby,” she yelled.

“I’ll go get Carlisle,” I told her. “You go back in your room and lay down.”

“Carlisle,” I called before I got in the house. He was already there waiting for me.

“What is Bella?” he asked.

“Nessie is going into labor,” I said.

“Where is she?” He ran upstairs to gather his things.

“At the cottage,” I said, he was back now. “I told her to stay there.”

“Good lets go,” he said as he ran out the door.

We got to the cottage pretty quickly. Carlisle went straight into Nessie’s room.

“Deep breaths,” I heard him tell her.

“Carlisle do you need any help?” I asked him.

“No Bella,” he said. “Call Edward and find out where he is. That would be very helpful.”

“Try to find Jacob too,” Nessie told me.

“Deep breaths.”

I called Edward first.

“Bella is everything okay?” he answered on the first ring.

“Nessie in labor,” I told him. “We need you back here.”

“I’m on my way.”

The second the line went dead I was calling Seth.

“Hello,” Seth said.

“Seth its Bella,” I said.

“Oh hey Bella,” he said. “Calling for an up date on Charlie.”

“Not today,” I said. “I need you to find Jacob; Nessie’s in labor.”

“Okay. Bye.”

“Bye, thanks.”

I could hear Nessie’s deep breaths. Her heart seemed to slow down a little. This worried me.

Her deep breaths turned into gasps by the time Edward got here.

“Is she okay?” he asked.

“You tell me,” I said. He concentrated on her thoughts for a moment before he answered his own question.

“She’s in some pain.”

“Where is she?” Jacob asked as he burst through the door.

“Her room,” Edward and I said in unison. Jacob ran to her room.

“Jacob,” we heard Nessie say. In all the pain she was in she was able to greet Jacob as he walked in the door.

“Edward,” I whispered.

“Yes,” Edward whispered back.

“Is Renesmee going to be okay?” I asked making my voice lower than a whisper. My voice was so quite I could barley hear it.

“She’s struggling,” he said at the same volume my voice was at. “But she will survive.”

“That’s all I needed to hear.”

We stood in the living room never moving never speaking. The only thing we heard was Carlisle’s and Jacob’s encouragements and Renesmee’s gasps and little screams.

Hours after Nessie went into labor her breathing stopped. I held my breath and looked at Edward.

“Edward, Bella,” Carlisle called. “Come here.” We walked to Renesmee’s room.

When we got there Carlisle was on one side of Nessie not facing us and Jacob was on the other side also not facing us.

Carlisle was the first to turn. When he turned we saw the baby boy in his arms. “You have a grandson.”

Jacob turned now. “And you have another grandson,” he said. There in Jacob’s arms was another baby boy.

The baby boys were identical twins. They had soft green eyes and ivory skin. Their skin was flushed on their cheeks. Their hair was the same shade as Edward’s. Their hair was curly just like Charlie’s and Renesmee’s.

I stood their staring at the boys with a shocked expression on my face.

“Bella what is it?” Edward asked me.

“My dreams,” I said.

“What?” Edward said.

“It’s hard to explain,” I said. I looked at Edward. “Do not tune me out.”

I pushed my shield out and showed Edward the boy from my dreams on the island, the nightmares from our honeymoon.

“Bella,” he gasped.

“Their the same,” I said. “The features, the color of their skin, the eye color, even the hair color.”

“Are you sure?” Edward asked.

“You saw my memories you tell me,” I said.

“I mean . . . their the same,” he said.

“Would anyone care to explain?” Jacob asked.

“On our honeymoon I had this re-accruing nightmare,” I said.

“So,” Jacob said.

“In the nightmare their was a boy and their was the Volturi,” I said. “The Volturi were closing in on the boy. Because of that dream when I was pregnant I always thought it would be a boy.”

“What does this have to do with my sons?” Jacob asked.

“They look exactly like the boy in my dreams,” I said. “I’m not sure why the boy I pictured in my mind looks like your children.”

“Maybe your dream wasn’t so far off,” Edward said.

“What do you mean?” I asked him.

“Well maybe your dream was trying to warn you about something,” he said “something that might happen.”

“Like what?” I was so confused.

“Your dream might have been warning you that what happened with your daughter will happen with her sons,” Carlisle said this time.

“You mean all of her sons?”

“Yes all of them,” Carlisle responded.

A shrilling cry came. The cry sounded so musical it was hard to believe it was a baby crying. Carlisle handed the crying baby to Nessie.

“You’re okay CB,” she murmured to the baby.

“What did you name him?” I asked.

“I named him Charlie Billy,” she said. “Is that okay with you?”

“Yeah it’s fine with me. What did you name the other one?”

“EJ,” she said.

“What?” I asked.

“Edward Jacob Black is that one,” she pointed to the one in Jacob’s arms “Charlie Billy Black is this one,” she held out the one that she was holding.

“You might have been named EJ you know that?” I told her.

“Yeah I know that’s why I picked it,” she said.

The baby started crying again.

“We should let you four be alone,” Edward said.

We walked back to the living room.

“Twins?” I said. “Wow.”

“Yes wow is right,” Carlisle said.

“Did you know she was pregnant with twins?” I asked.

“No I didn’t,” he said. “The heart beats are on the same time so I only heard one.”

“That’s interesting,” I said. “I never thought she would have twins.”

“Well you two have had a long day,” Carlisle said.

“Yes,” I agreed. “We’ll go back to the house, I want talk with Esme.”

We went back to the house with Carlisle. Esme was in sitting on the coach and drawing on a pad of paper. She didn’t look up when we walked in. Carlisle went to his office, Edward to his piano, and I went and sat next to Esme.

“How’s Nessie and the baby?” she asked.

“Babies,” I corrected. “Their good.”

“She had twins?” Esme asked.

“Yes,” I said. “I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”

“What is it?”

“Renesmee and Jacob now have a family of their own and I think they should move out of the cottage,” I said. “I think they need more independence. But I don’t want them far away.”

“I know what you’re asking,” Esme said.

“You do?”

“Yes. You’re asking me to build a house for them,” she said.

“I am,” I said. “Will you please?”

“Yes I will,” Esme said as she smiled.

“Thank you,” I said. “Not to far away though.”

“What do you mean by not to far away?” she asked.

“Well the same distances as the house is from the cottage,” I said. “That way they will be in running distance.”

“How soon do you think they will need it?”

“Soon,” I replied. “There are now four of them that sleep.”

“I’ll get Carlisle, Alice, Emmett, and Jasper to start right away,” Esme said. “There is a spot that is a little farther than the distance that you want but it’s the only spot big enough to build a house.”

“That’s okay,” I said. “As long as they are close by.”

Alice danced toward Esme and me with Emmett and Jasper on her heels. Carlisle was behind Emmett and Jasper. She had a huge smile on her face.

“Esme,” she said. “When can we get to work?” Esme glanced at the clock before Alice even finished her question.

“When do you want to start Alice?” Esme asked.

“Now,” she said.

“We’ll go get the supplies,” Emmett said. Right before him and Jasper went outside.

“Esme I know exactly where you want the house to go,” Alice said.

“Do not go over the top Alice,” I said.

“I won’t, I won’t.”

“They have two kids,” I said. “Keep that in mind.”

“Do you want them to have their own place or not?” Alice asked me.

“I want them to have more freedom,” I sighed.

“We better get working,” Esme said.

“Thank you Esme,” I said.

“You’re welcome Bella,” she said right before she, Alice, and Carlisle left.

Edward came over and sat next to me, he put his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to his side.

“They’re going to be working on the house all night,” Edward said. “Which means no one is in the house to disturb us.”

“Why don’t we just go to the cottage,” I suggested.

“Jacob and Nessie are going to be up a lot,” he said. “The babies are newborns.”

I turned myself toward him; I looked in to his eyes for a long time. I kept on looking at him; I leaned in to press my lips to his. I meant it to be a brief kiss, but he had other ideas. His arms locked around my waist pulling me closer to him. My legs wrapped around his hips, my fingers knotted in his hair. He pulled me up with him as he stood up. He carried me to his old room with out breaking my embrace or our kiss.

When we got to his room he laid me down on the bed. My hands went from his hair to his chest to unbutton his shirt, but when they reached his chest I only felt the bareness of his chest underneath my hands. He pulled my arms back around his neck, I left them there. His arms wound around my waist and pulled me closer to him; our bare chests met each other.

Even now I still didn’t get what he was so worried about on our honeymoon. What the danger was that he saw in this? It seemed harmless. There really only was one danger to worry about; and that one we didn’t even know could happen.

Just like Edward said we were not disturbed. Well we weren’t disturbed till the morning. One of the babies was crying the next morning. They probably needed help with them. “EJ sweetie,” Jacob said. “Calm down.” So it was EJ.

“Do they need help?” I mouthed to Edward.

He shook his head. “We have time,” he said as he pulled me closer to his body.

“Alice,” Jacob called. “Esme, Emmett, Jasper, anybody.”

Edward used all of his strength to keep me in place. He wouldn’t let me up. His lips crushed mine with more force than ever before. This kiss had more force than when he kissed me right before he left to fight James. It scared me. Was he kissing me like this for some reason? Was he not telling me something? If he wasn’t telling me something what was he keeping from me?

Why was I worrying? Edward would never keep something from me. Everything was fine. I was just making something out of nothing. He most likely didn’t want to cut this prefect night –- morning –- short. To be honest with myself, I didn’t want to cut it short either.

After my little freak out session I really didn’t care about Jacob down stairs; that was until he walked in on us.

“Umm . . . sorry,” Jacob said as he bounced the crying EJ up and down in his arms. “I’ll go find someone else.”

Edward finally pulled his lips away from mine. “Go down stairs and will be down in a minute,” he said.

Jacob almost ran out of the room. Edward and I got up and put our clothes back on without one word being spoken to either of us. We then went to see what Jacob wanted.

“Sorry about,” Jacob took a deep breath, “about . . . um before.”

“Just forget it,” I said.

“Okay.”

“What do you want?” Edward asked. Speak of the cold shoulder.

“I can’t get him to stop crying,” Jacob said. “I don’t want to ask Nessie for help because she just got to sleep. I don’t know what to do.”

I took the baby out of Jacob’s arms. “Let me try,” I said. I bounced him up and down for a moment.

“Hey baby,” I said. “You okay? Did you check if he needed to be changed?”

“He doesn’t need to be.”

“A little help Edward,” I said.

“What do you want me to do?” he asked.

“You’re the mind reader.” He stopped and concentrated.

He turned to Jacob before he spoke. “You are going to need to wake up Renesmee,” he said. “He’s hungry.”

“Thanks,” Jacob said as he took EJ back. Once he had him back he ran back to the cottage.

“Edward what’s wrong?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” he asked looking outside.

“You . . . didn’t let me get up,” I said good thing no one was home. “There was too much force. You seemed like we didn’t have enough time last night.” Even though it was true we didn’t have enough time last night.

“I just . . .” he was struggling with words. It was the first time in a little over ten years that I’ve seen him act so human, since I found out he was a vampire.

“Just spit it out Edward,” I said.

He didn’t say anything, instead he turned around. I had just enough time to see his broken expression before his arm was around my waist pulling me towards him; his lips came down on mine. He had his other hand on the nape of my neck so I wouldn’t pull away. With his arm that was around my waist he lifted me off the ground. He carried me off, but I didn’t know where. He never broke the kiss while he was running.

The next thing I knew he was pressing me into the cool freshly dewed grass. That was when he pulled away; I was able to see where we were. He had brought us to our meadow. So many memories popped into my head. The first time he held me, the first time he kissed me, the times we spent here. While I was remembering Edward spoke for the first time since we left the house, “Bella,” he started. “Isabella, I love you more than anything else in the world, no the universe. In Wuthering Heights Cathy once said ‘My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He’s always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always pleasure to myself, but as my own being.’ You are like that to me.”

I was speech less.

“The reason I didn’t let you up was because I never want to let you go,” I opened my mouth to speak but he put two fingers over it. “I never, never want to let you go. Now that I have you forever I only want to hold you all the time.”

“What about all the force?” I mumbled against his fingers.

“I had a memory of the last time I kissed you with that much force,” he started. “You might not remember but that was on your eighteenth birthday, a few days latter I left you. That memory brought on more force and more tension.

“Bella you are the only reason I live,” he paused. “The only point in life is you. You are the center of my universe.”

I looked at him. I didn’t know what to say. I only felt something, but I didn’t know what emotion I felt. I closed my eyes and pushed my shield out, and waited for his reaction.

The next thing I knew his mouth was on mine. I couldn’t think. Why was he doing this? What triggered all this emotion? Was I missing something?

“Edward,” I tried to say around his lips. “Edward stop.”

He pulled away and looked at me with an irritated expression. “Why should I stop Bella?”

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“What do you mean?” Edward asked me.

“I mean all you’ve wanted to do is kiss me since last night,” I said. “That only happens when something is going on. So what is going on?”

“Can’t a husband kiss his wife with out there being a problem?” he asked.

“I don’t mean just kissing,” I glared at him. “You are the one that usually stops us in the morning.”

“There’s nothing going on,” he said. “We just wont have some privacy for a while. I just want to take advantage of the time we have alone is that such a crime?”

“I guess not,” I said.

“Good,” he kissed the tip of my nose. “May I get back to taking advantage of our privacy?”

In stead of saying anything I just started to unbutton his shirt. He would be able to figure out my answer. We started where we left off.

This moment was so perfect I didn’t want it to end, but I knew the sooner it ended there would be more perfect moments. I didn’t want any part of this day to end. It was so embarrassing to know the reason why I didn’t want it to end. I didn’t want it to end because I wanted Edward to keep holding me the way he was. Not just holding me, but holding me the way he was holding me now.
