Chapter 4

The truth is hiding in your eyes
And it's hanging on your tongue.

"Mom, I'm home!" She screamed out, holding in her tears. She never tried to make everything about her, but she absolutely needed to talk to her mom. A boy named Devin at school had broke her little heart. She took her Mom's advice and decided to make the first move, only to be shot down in front of the whole school. She didn't her Mom to feel bad because of the bad advice she gave her daughter, she just simply needed some one to talk to. Besides, her Mom was her best friend, she could NEVER stay mad at such a wonderful friend.

"Mom?" She held in her tears, she knew this was weird. Usually she would hear her Mom in the kitchen cooking something, as soon as she shouted for her Mother, she would have heard a response, "I'm in here sweetie!" Her Mom's angelic voice echoed in her head.

"Where are you Mom." She whispered inside her head, starting the scavenger hunt for her Mother. She was no longer worried about the foolish boy at school. Something in her heart told her something was out of order. Her heart began to droop down with fear, and her body and eyes were alert just in case something happened.

"Mom, where are you?" She called out again, hoping she would get a response. She didn't, she began to get nervous. If anything happened to her Mother she wouldn't know what to do with herself. She heard something fall, it frightened her. The noise came from the living room, she slowly walked into the living room. Her eyes widened with fear,

"Mommy!" She screamed out as she seen her Mother's body, sprawled out on the floor. Her body was detangled and scratched up. She noticed all the bite marks all over her mother's beautiful skin. It looked as if some mutant animal had attacked her, she ran to her Mother's body, her eyes were still open and she was gasping for air. Her eyes filled with tears, she couldn't do anything to make her Mother's pain go away.

"Wa..Wa" Her mother coughed up blood," The cold, pale skin.. Watch out." She said, her Mother's body became lifeless, as her Mother's head dropped down with a thud. She knew, this was the end.

"Mom.." She shook her Mother gently, soon becoming violent when her Mother didn't wake up. She screamed and cried, she didn't know what to do. She called the Police and held her mother's body in her arms. Getting blood all over her favorite outfit, she didn't care.. suddenly things like boy problems weren't the center of her world, like she had thought.

"Hey girl, you okay?" James hugged me as I sat down in a hospital room, with a black blanket over me. His grandfather rolled in afterwards.

"Yeah. I'm fine." I said. My father sat by me, rubbing my back. Linda had to stay at home for some reason, I didn't care what it was. I was just happy that she wasn't in my face. But my father made up for that, every two seconds he would ask me if I was hurt or if she needed something. I know he's was only doing it out of love, but it was irking me, either way.

"You okay Mel?" James asked, with worry written all over his face. I tried to smile, but all I was focused on was the horrible head ache I had gained. But I was better off than the three dead. A shiver went down my spine as I noted that, that was almost me.

"She says Jensen's boy saved her." My dad said doubtfully, I didn't tell any one how. One, because I didn't want to sound crazy. Two, if something was up with the Jensen family, I didn't want to be the one to "snitch" on them. I would wait until I was sure of the people that surrounded me.

"Those Jensen's are nothing but trouble-makers." 'Uncle' Carl said evilly, with much bitterness in his voice. He probably didn't even know the Jensen's, and for some reason I took what he said offensively.

"Well that trouble-maker saved my life.." I murmured under my breath. Carl probably didn't hear me, because he didn't respond. I didn't know why I was sticking up for such a liar like Alex. But he saved me, he could have probably gotten killed himself.

“School shooting, leaving three dead and two wounded.” I was guessing that I was wounded. We all grew quiet, all eyes were on me. I shrugged my shoulders, not sure of how I was suppose to feel. I wish I could have helped that boy, but it was over now. Now three young lives were gone.

"I heard the sheriff's daughter was in.." A man said with a loud voice, we all looked back. It was a blonde man with pale skin. He smiled, he had the dull teeth too, I knew he was a Jensen. He had to be.

"My daughter says your boy saved her." My father said, subconsciously answering my question. Mr. Jensen said nothing, he stayed for a couple of minutes before leaving. My father and James started to talk, I didn't know about what, all I know was I wasn't interested in what they had to say.

“How did you say he saved you again?” Carl asked, I cleared my throat, quickly trying to remember the lie I made up earlier.

“When when the gunman was going to shoot me, Alex came- he tried to talk some since in him and then when the gunman was going to shoot, Alex made him point the gun in a different direction.” I said, hoping my story made since, hoping they didn’t ask the guy what really happened. They all nodded, Alex’s dad looked at me with an admiring glance. Almost like he knew I was lying for them.

What ever Alex was, he must have been too. When no one else was looking, he nodded, giving me a thankful glance. I smiled and mouthed the words, “Your welcome.”

Now I knew something was up, he was thanking me for keeping what ever they were a secret. Finally, he left the room. I decided or whether I should follow or not. I hoped he would give me some answers.

"Excuse me." I said, hopping of the bed I was sitting in, and going outside of that room. I decided I was going to wonder the hall.

“You are lucky she was loyal enough to not tell anyone!” I heard the father’s voice again, he seemed angry.

"Did you just expect me to let her die? Father, our secret is not in jeopardy." I heard Alex's voice, 'Father'? I didn't know anything who actually called their father, father. I hid behind the wall. Suddenly their conversation stopped, they all turned their heads in my direction. Weird! It seems as if they all had some kind of eye in the back of their heads.

"Can I talk to you Alex?" I asked politely, his parents gave him a look of disappointment before departing. He walked towards me, not taking his eyes off of me.

"Carmela, hello. I'm glad your okay-" I interrupted his soothing voice, even though I didn't want to.

"Alex, cut the bull. What happened back there?" I asked, being straight forward. Maybe to straight forward, he stuffed his hands in his pockets. I stared at his pale skin.

"You almost got hit by a car. But luckily it swerved." He said, I chuckled angrily. He was playing this bull shit, I knew I wasn't crazy. I didn't like when people treated me like I was crazy.

"Yeah. I almost got hit by a car, luckily you stopped the car with your hand." I asked, he smiled and chuckled, like this was a game. He was really pissing me off.

"Carmela, are you okay? I'm quite sure you were petrified, maybe you imagined it." He said, my skin started to turn a light red.

"Don't treat me like I'm crazy." I snapped, he was quiet. He just looked at me, I quickly calmed down, at just a quick glance of him.

"You stopped the car with your hand Alex." I said, calmly.

"Yeah, well no one will believe you." He broke his magical eye contact with me.

"What makes you think I would tell any one?" I asked, seriously. If he did decide to put his trust in me, I would tell no one.

"I have to go." He brushed past me. I sighed, there was no ground breaking with this boy, or what ever he was. I didn't know what to think of him. I just knew, deep down, there was good in him. That good overtook him when he decided to save my life. How he saved me, I didn't know.

But I was grateful that he did.
