The New Student

A new student is at Forks High. She looks and acts a lot like Bella and has a mad crush on Edward. Bella is now worried about this new student and doubts Edward's love for her, driving a wedge between her and Edward. Will Bella push Edward away with her worry?

This was just a random idea that popped into my head. I hope it turns out well. :)

It was lunch and I was sitting with my friends. Angela Weber, Ben Cheney, Mike Newton, Alice Cullen, and the love of my life Edward Cullen. I sat holding hands with Edward while he played with a few strands of my hair. Meanwhile I was having a funny conversation about shopping with Alice and Angela.

"You should've seen the skirt Alice tried to get me to wear!", I laughed remembering.

"Too much?", Angela giggled biting her carrot stick.

"Too little!", I laughed putting down my fork.

"It wasn't even short. It was cute and you looked so adorable in it. Better than the pants you got", Alice smiled pretending to bite into a breadstick.

"Whatever", I playfully rolled my eyes at my hopeful-soon-to-be-sister.

She giggled.

"Who's that?", Angela asked looking over my head.

I looked up and behind me. I could feel Edward's hand tense.

"Whoa", Mike and Ben looked like they were about to drool.

A tall thin brunette walked in the room with a few guys by her side. She looked somewhat familiar.

"She looks a lot like you Bella", Angela commented a little annoyed by Ben's obvious fascination.

That was it! She looked like me. Well no she was prettier than me but had very similar features to mine. I looked over at Edward who was watching me closely with a worried expression on his face. I frowned. Did he know she was coming?

"Edward could I talk to you for a second?", I stood up pulling his hand with me.

His eyes grew with concern.

"Please?", I frowned.

He sighed. "Alright"

I let go of his hand as we walked into an empty hallway.

"When were you planning on telling me about this new girl?", I whispered harshly.

He sighed. "I didn't think it was a big deal"

"Then why were you so tense when she walked in? What do you know about her?", I whispered worried and confused.

"Nothing. She's not anything special I just...", he trailed off and looked away.

I was hurt and confused that he was keeping something from me.

"Edward. What?", I asked.

"It's nothing", he finally returned my gaze.

"What are you hiding? What are you keeping from me?", I asked trying to understand.

He took in a deep breath.

"Edward...", I didn't understand.

"Bella it really isn't a big deal don't worry", he promised trying to charm me. It was working but I fought it.

"If it's not a big deal why won't you tell me?", I needed some answers.

"Alright. Her name is Jessica Carter. Problem was we know that I can't read her thoughts either. Alice saw her coming and you were going to...", he trailed off again.

"What? I was going to what?", I urged.

"You would worry", he finished.

"About?", It still made no sense.

"I'm not sure. But I got worried because I didn't know", Edward said.

"Was I worried about you?", I asked because I knew I was worried.

"What about me?", he asked.

"That...you might leave me for her", I said with my voice getting lower with each word.

"What? Bella why would you feel that way?", Edward looked genuinely shocked and hurt. Maybe he didn't know why.

I sighed feeling tears starting to form on the corners of my eyes.

"Edward look at her. She's drop dead gorgeous", I pointed out.

"She means nothing to me. You do", Edward took my hands with a look of pain in his eyes.

"Edward she looks just like me...only prettier. You can't read her thoughts. Edward she's me! Only better looking and probably more interesting", tears started to fall.

Edward pulled me into his arms.

"Bella I don't ever want to hear that you feel that way. You are my world, my everything. Nothing and no one will ever change that. Don't ever tell me you feel that way", he whispered in my ear.

"But Edward...", I began.

"I don't want to hear it", he said sternly.

Didn't he care how I felt? How emotionally unstable I felt? He didn't want to hear it. The one person I felt I could tell anything and everything to, didn't care. That just adds more to my doubt of my hold.

I sighed and walked away wiping my tears.

"Bella, love where are you going?", Edward asked following.

I walked in the girls' bathroom without responding.

I went to the sink and washed my face. I didn't even know the girl and she was disrupting my perfect world.

I expected Edward to be outside waiting for me. But he wasn't. I was half happy but half hurt. I expected lunch to be nearly over but there was still a little over ten minutes left. I went back to my table to find Jessica Carter sitting in my seat talking to my friends, including Alice. Edward was quiet. I walked over and sat on the empty chair beside Mike.

"Hey Bella! Have you met Jessica?", Mike was too excited. He obviously had a crush on her. As did every other guy in Forks High. Except Edward, according to him. Sure, he didn't.

"No I haven't", I faked a smile. "Hi I'm Bella Swan. I was the new girl last year."

"Jessica Carter", she shook my hand. "At least I know someone understands. Everybody here has been very friendly though"

"Yeah they are. That's one of their problems here", I joked trying not to sound insecure when really, that's all I was.

The bell rang and lunch was over. I left to class. I didn't bother waiting for Edward. If he didn't care, why should I? Okay I really did care but I wasn't in the mood to show it.

Edward and I didn't talk through our last classes. He drove me home and left. I did my homework, ate dinner with Charlie, and showered. As I was laying down I heard Edward tap on my window. I forgot to leave it open so I got up and opened it.

"Hey", he smiled and kissed me.

"Hi", I tried to smile back.

Edward and I just talked about his family. He purposely avoided talking about anything school related so Jessica wouldn't come up.

The next day the lunch bell rang and I walked to the lunchroom with Angela. I met up with the rest of the group at our table. I went through the line and as I turned around I saw Edward sitting at the table with Jessica. I told Angela I was going to get a salad so Edward wouldn't hear what I saw through her thoughts. Jessica was smiling, flipping her hair and giggling. She was totally flirting with my boyfriend! She glanced up at me and saw I was watching and she gave Edward a hug and walked off looking like the model she is.

I walked to the table and sat down. Edward kissed my cheek and took my hand smiling at me. I half smiled back. At lunch I closed myself out from all of their conversations. I didn't even eat, I just picked at my food. The whole time I could feel Edward's eyes trying to read my mood.

After a while I tossed the piece of broccoli onto my plate and grabbed my tray. I walked to toss my plate and left into the hallway. I could hear two chairs back up to get up but one person ended up scooting back in. "Let me talk to her", I heard a whisper but didn't recognize the voice.

"Bella!", Angela called after me and followed into the restroom.

I went to the mirror and wiped my unshed tears.

"Bella, what's wrong? You aren't yourself today. Is something the matter?", Angela asked getting me a tissue.

"No Angela. Thanks but I don't want to talk about it", I really did want to talk to someone about it. I did trust Angela but I knew Edward was listening to this conversation right now. I didn't want him to hear me pour my heart out about him to her.

"Well alright. I don't like seeing you this way. If you want to talk about it I'm here for you", Angela tried to smile.

I half smiled back. "Thanks Ang"

"Of course", she gave me a hug.

That night, Edward came in my room like he always does but he didn't sit down.

"It's only 6, do you think your father would mind if we went for a walk?...Or would you rather stay here?", Edward changed the question to see what I wanted.

"I'm already dressed for bed so can we stick around?", I asked.

"Of course", he sat on my bed cradling me on his lap.

I smiled at him.

"Bella I think it's time we had a heart to heart...or whatever it is that I have", he said.

"Alright, what about?", I asked.

"What's bothering you Bella? I can tell something's bothering you and I know you're upset at me. You haven't talked to me about it and it worries me", Edward said into my hair.

"Wow Edward. Okay to begin with, it worries you when I don't tell you things when you keep stuff from me all the time. How do you think that makes ME feel?", I started out with.

"Alright I understand. I'm sorry I won't hide anything from you anymore", he said.

"Okay. And the other part. I haven't talked to you about it because you don't want me to", I said.

"What? Why would you say that? You know I love to hear what you think about. Especially when it's hurting you so terribly", Edward caressed my cheek.

"Edward you told me that you didn't want to hear it when I told you how I felt", I reminded him.

"No I told you I didn't want you to feel that way. I don't want you to ever keep your feelings bottled up for them to eat away at you Bella, I want to talk things through with you. How can we have true love with no communication? Don't be afraid on how I might react or if you think it will bore me or whatever absurd idea you think I might feel", he said.

I sighed. "Edward why were you flirting with Jessica?", I asked closing my eyes.

"I did no such thing", his eyes grew in horror.

"I saw you at lunch today talking with her. She was flirting with you and you two hugged", I reminded him.

"Bella she came up and told me a message from Alice, I thanked her, she hugged me and went on her way. I don't know why she hugged me but I wasn't going to be rude and push her away", he said sounding sincere.

"You truly have no interest in her?", I asked.

"None whatsoever", he promised.

I believed him.

"I love you Edward", I smiled hugging him closer.

"I absolutely love you more than anything. I care for you so much you will never comprehend. Never, ever doubt that", he said sincerely.

I was happy.

"I thought I lost you. I don't know what I would have done without you", I said.

"One little conversation worried you so much? Bella you should know by now how much you mean to me and nothing will ever change that. Ever", he promised kissing me.

"Same goes for you", I grinned and kissed him back.

He continued to hold me until I fell asleep contently.
