Jasper came back into the room. I took a deep breath.

"How much do you know?" he asked, not looking me in the eye.

"I know what you are. Vampires killed my mother. But I know you're different from them. Your eyes a different colour"

"Why didn't you tell me that you knew?"

"I thought you might try and hurt me," I said. It was true, that was a fear of mine. I was worried, if he found out I knew, he'd hurt me. Recently, there'd been a different fear. A worry that if he knew...he might not want to see me again.

"I wouldn't do that" I looked up and he was gazing intently at me. He moved slightly closer, looking a bit uncertain. I closed my eyes for a second and when I opened them again, his face was next to mine. He kissed me. His lips were cold and hard and mine moulded around them. My arms wrapped around him and one of his tangled into my hair.

"I love you Alice," he said.

"I love you Jasper" it was true. And that was incredibly dangerous. You should never let your feelings get in the way! But I didn't stop him; instead, I threw myself in more passionately.

"I think I should go," I said, breathlessly when we separated. He nodded.

"I need to explain to my family" he said "about...you know"

"Can I kiss you again before I leave?"

"You have me the entire drive home, remember?"

"Yes, but the drive only takes five minutes with you driving"

"True" he muttered. He lent in and gave me another kiss. I was vaguely aware of him picking me up and running downstairs, not bothering to disguise what he could do anymore. He placed me in the car and darted round to his side.

"I see you enjoy throwing off the human act"

"Well, it's easier not having to worry about controlling myself"

"Please do control yourself. I'd rather not get killed any time this year" he raised an eyebrow at me.

"Sorry. Slipped out" I muttered, ashamed.

"We're here"

"Four minutes and thirty-eight seconds" I said.

"You actually counted?"

"No. I just noticed the time" he raised his eyebrow again.

"Fine, I counted. You know, you really need to slow down. I understand why you drive fast but can you please...not? At least just slow down when I'm around"

"Does it scare you when I drive fast?"

"No. it reminds me of you when you run"

"I've only run with you once"

"That's enough"

"Glad you enjoyed it"

"Well. I'll be getting out" I didn't move. Neither did he.

"I'll be leaving," I said again.

"You're not moving," he said.

"Does it sound really weird to say that I don't want to leave?"

"A bit. But then again, I don't want you to leave either" I smiled shyly.

"If I had it my way, I'd keep you beside me as my prisoner" he smiled wickedly "but I suppose my family will want to talk to me about...you"

"Okay" I kissed him once more and got out. I waved until he was out of sight. Only then did I realize the magnitude of what had happened.

What had I done?
