On the surface

Niam has no one, except the memories of her dead parents. On the surface she seems fine. hardworking, friendly. but she's not. she's upset with herself. And lonely. She needs someone who will look into her soul and save what she has left. Teen rating for darkness...

This was exceptionally easy to write. So lots of updates i hope. This is before Bella comes on the scene (and no, Edward is not going to get off with Niam) and before the Cullen's go to Forks.

I waited for ages for Niam to turn up but she didn't. I decided I should leave. Well, I had nowhere really to go but I decided to go for a walk. I hoped she liked the book I'd given her. I knew she'd appreciate a book, a first edition.

I wandered aimlessly. Then I froze. Fear, so strong it was almost tangible. And I smelt something else. Blood. My head darted around, trying to locate the source. I followed my nose and came to a house. Niam's house. Oh god. No. please let her be okay! I ran to the front door and hammered on it.

"NIAM!" I shouted but there was no reply. I could feel her fear and I could smell something else now that I was nearer. Fire. Smoke. Burning paper. And tears, I could smell the tears that were dripping down Niam's face as she cried in the house. I pushed the door, hard and it swung open. I ran inside. Niam was lying on the floor with blood streaking her face.

For a moment my instincts over ridded my good intentions. The feeling of predator and prey. But then Niam made a faint noise and I was dragged to the present. I closed my eyes and stopped breathing.

When I opened my eyes, I was Jasper again. Niam was my friend and I had to look after her. I approached her motionless figure. She was bleeding quite heavily and she didn't look like she was breathing much. I tried to find her pulse. It was there, faint and fading but still there.

I knew if I left her, she wouldn't last much longer. I scooped her into my arms and carried her out. I needed to take her to Carlisle. Who cared about Alice and Edward, Niam needed help! I ran as fast I could. Niam was struggling to remain conscious. I could feel her breathing getting shorter and shallower. I reached the house.

"Carlisle!" I shouted, dashing through the door. I lay her on the sofa. Carlisle and the rest of the family appeared.

"Stay away!" I snapped at them. They didn't listen.

"Jasper's right, stay back. She's bleeding" Carlisle said firmly. Rosalie took a step forward, her eyes black and I snapped at her.

"Stay away Rose," I said. She shook herself and backed away. The family didn't leave the room but hovered on the outskirts.

"What happened to her Jasper?"

"I found her like this. I was walking and I sensed a really strong stab of fear so I went towards it and she was inside a house like this"

"How did you resist Jasper? I'm pleased you did but still...?" asked Esme who had a hand pressed to her nose. I hung my head, embarrassed and I changed the subject.

"Will she survive? Will she stay human?"

"Yes Jasper. She'll stay human" I felt so relived. Niam's heartbeat was still fluttering erratically. I would have to ask her what happened when she woke up. I realized that every member of my family was staring at me. Including a furious looking Alice.
