On the surface

Summary:
Niam has no one, except the memories of her dead parents. On the surface she seems fine. hardworking, friendly. but she's not. she's upset with herself. And lonely. She needs someone who will look into her soul and save what she has left. Teen rating for darkness...

Notes:
This was exceptionally easy to write. So lots of updates i hope. This is before Bella comes on the scene (and no, Edward is not going to get off with Niam) and before the Cullen's go to Forks.

I listened as Niam told us what had happened. She could hardly her finish before she burst into tears. How could he do that to her? I wanted to go and find him, rip him to shreds with all my strength.

"It's okay, we'll keep you safe," I whispered. She moved to wipe her tears but instead, her hand collided with her nose.

"What is it?" asked Carlisle.

"I can't see" she muttered, "I can see shapes. But nothing defined"

"Hmm...that could be caused by blood in your eyes or it could be something more serious. Before I diagnose, I think we should clean your eyes"

"I'll do it," I volunteered. Carlisle gave me a strange look. He was confused at to why I was showing such care over this frail human. Before, I probably would haven't have bothered he knew that but with no Alice around, and this girl that provoked such strong emotions in me, it was hard not too care. Esme appeared with water and a flannel. I very gently washed Niam's eyes, noting her wince occasionally.

"Thank you" she said when I was done "You didn't have to"

"It's okay. Can you see better now?"

"Not really. Things are a tiny bit clearer but still not properly," she said "What am I going to do?" she asked.

"Nothing. Stay here and recover," said Carlisle, firmly.

"No, I meant about Lance, about my siblings! Natalie, and Larry will come back soon/ and I don't have any of my stuff" I cut her off smoothly.

"Relax Niam. I'll go and get some of your clothes. I'm sure Natalie will understand"

"Doubt it," she muttered. I laughed, but it was strained.

"Will you be long?" she asked.

"No. why?"

"I don't want you to leave," she whispered, so quietly even I had to strain to catch the tiny flickers of sound.

"I can wait," I offered. She shook her head.

"I'm going to give you some more pain medication now Niam. You might feel a small sting" perfect timing Carlisle. He distracted her and allowed me to slip from the room. I drove quickly to her house. The door wasn't locked so I just barged in.

"What the hell are you doing?" barked a loud voice. Lance.

"I'm picking up some of Niam's stuff," I said, trying to
reign in my fast escaping temper.

"Where is that stuck up cow then? She went and did a runner last night! Now I need to find another bird. Not that she was very good anyway, so no real loss there then" no, I'd snapped. I ran to him and grabbed his collar.

"Listen you. You nearly killed her last night! If I hadn't found her, you'd have murdered her. And I swear, if you ever try to hurt her again, I will personally hunt you down and kill you" I stared into his harsh eyes and saw no fear. Better show him I was serious. I picked him off the floor and threw him down. He cried out in pain.

"I am not going to make you suffer like you made her suffer, not this time. But go near her again, I will" I swore. I darted upstairs and went into the room I'd seen her in yesterday. It smelt like her but also like another girl. I just grabbed a handful of clothes that I thought looked the right size and style before leaving. He was still groaning on the floor.

"Yeah, that's right. I'm stronger then I look" I had been going to leave a message for her foster parents but if I stayed any longer, I'd kill him. I returned home.

"Jasper, I want to talk to you," said Alice, the moment I entered.

"Well, I don't want to talk to her. I have things that matter to take care of"

"Jasper. I am going to talk to you"

"Fine, but make it quick" I said.

"You are such a hypocrite!" she barked.

"How?"

"I mean, I two timed you so you go and immediately go off and find the first mortal to hook up with! At least I have standards!"

"What, so it would have been better if I'd just left an innocent girl to die?!" I shouted.

"Well, it wouldn't be any great loss on the world! I mean you and me Jasper. We were good together!"

"Yeah, till you cheated on me!"

"Yes, but at least I went with someone that belonged with me! Humans don't belong in this world with us! Jasper, why did you do it? When? The moment you found out about me and Edward? A rebound girl? At least tell her! I mean, it's not nice to string people along!"

"I have done nothing to Niam! I made friends with a girl who needed someone to talk to! Anything that happens between me and her is none of your business! And you accused me of being a hypocrite? Stringing people along is what you do Alice, it's the only thing you're good at" I said. I marched off. When I got upstairs, I was lucky to find the Niam had been asleep through that argument. I sat beside her and just, felt.
