On the surface

Niam has no one, except the memories of her dead parents. On the surface she seems fine. hardworking, friendly. but she's not. she's upset with herself. And lonely. She needs someone who will look into her soul and save what she has left. Teen rating for darkness...

This was exceptionally easy to write. So lots of updates i hope. This is before Bella comes on the scene (and no, Edward is not going to get off with Niam) and before the Cullen's go to Forks.

Cara woke me up by shaking me. I was thrashing and nearly hit her as I struggled to fight my nightmares.

"Oh! Sorry Cara! Really, sorry!"

"That's okay," she said, rubbing her head

"Nightmare again? Same one as normal?" I nodded.

"I can't say I blame you, being stuck with Lance the loser for a week is enough to give anyone nightmares"

"Oh Cara! I'll miss you" I hugged her.

"Oh you silly! It's only for a week! How bad can it be?"

I knew it was a rhetorical question but I still answered "bad. Still, whatever doesn't kill me can only make me stronger" I tried to be optimistic.

"C'mon. Natalie's called you twice for breakfast"

"Right. I'll just get dressed" I struggled not to dwell on my nightmare but it was hard. I knew that eventually I would have to face my fears head on. I just hoped that time was far away. I dressed and went downstairs. I rushed through the kitchen, trying to get out before Lance appeared.

"Where are you going Niam?" asked Natalie. I ignored her and left. The school wasn't far, walking and it was a nice-ish day. You killed them! A thought burst into my head. Obviously, I hadn't distracted myself efficiently. I started to run, faster and faster until, overloaded with books, I fell to the ground.

"Damn it" I muttered.

"Do you need a hand?" a voice said. I turned. A petit girl with black spiky hair was standing beside me. She looked like a pixie.

"Oh, yeah. Thanks" she collected my book in a way that reminded me of the way Jasper had, before handing them to me.

"I'm Alice," she said.

"Interesting. Can I offer you a lift?" she pointed at a car I hadn't spotted. A silver Volvo.

"No, it's fine. I'm happy walking" she nodded and left me. I was closer to the school then I'd realized so I walked sedately towards my first class. Chemistry.

"Today, we're looking at reactions" I was distracted, and not listening but I dutifully went and collected my equipment including a glass test tube and some acid.

"Ah Mr. Hale. What can I do for you" I looked over and saw...Jasper!

"Oh sorry to disturb you sir but I was sent to give you this"

"Ow!" I cried out as someone barged into me. The test tube crashed to the floor as I fell. I was surrounded by broken glass and my concentration on the real world was obliterated. I was back in the car. We were lying in a ditch and the glass was cutting into me.

"What? Miss Moorcroft! What happened?!" I could hear voices but they weren't enough to pull me from my nightmare.

"Someone take her to the nurse!"

"I'll do it," said a calm voice and I was scooped into cool arms. But I was still lost and this only aggravated me further. I started thrashing, the way I did when I normally had nightmares and someone touched me.

"Mr. Hale, be careful! I think she should be taken to the hospital!"

"No, I'll take her to the nurse. I'm strong enough to cope with her"

"Fine. Miss Daniels, tell Mr. Richards that Mr. Hale is taking a sick student to the nurse and won't be back for a while" I could dimly feel myself being carried but I still fought against it. This was what always happened. I was rescued from the car by someone who only hurt me more.
