On the surface

Summary:
Niam has no one, except the memories of her dead parents. On the surface she seems fine. hardworking, friendly. but she's not. she's upset with herself. And lonely. She needs someone who will look into her soul and save what she has left. Teen rating for darkness...

Notes:
This was exceptionally easy to write. So lots of updates i hope. This is before Bella comes on the scene (and no, Edward is not going to get off with Niam) and before the Cullen's go to Forks.

I carried Niam out of the room. She was still struggling in my arms with her eyes rolled back into her skull. It was strange, I'd been dwelling on that emotional pain and what had caused it, yet here I was, probably with the actual source. I thought about the chain of events that had led me to this.

I was sitting in Trig. Edward was in that class and it took all my effort to not call him (mentally) every bad name I could think of.
"I need someone to take this to class 1A. Any volunteers?" I stuck my hand up. Anything to escape. Mr. Roberts gave me a note and I left. I approached the room. I could hear the general chat and the teacher say "today we're looking at reactions" I knocked and went in.
"Ah Mr. Hale. What can I do for you?" The teacher asked.
"Oh sorry to disturb you sir but I was sent to give you this" I had a quick glance round the room and spotted Niam who was furtively looking at me.
"Ow!" there was a cry, which immediately seized my attention. I saw every detail. A girl barged into Niam. She cried out as she fell. The glass test-tube she was holding shattered around her. She was lying on the floor amidst the glass. At first I worried, she was cut but she appeared unharmed. Then her breathing rate changed. She was hyperventilating and her heart was beating so hard I almost feared it would burst from her chest. I rushed to her side.
"What? Miss Moorcroft! What happened?!" The teacher hurried over "Someone take her to the nurse!"
"I'll do it," I said, picking her up. The effect was immediate. Her eyes rolled back into her head and her arms flailed wildly.
"Mr. Hale, be careful! I think she should be taken to the hospital!"
"No, I'll take her to the nurse. I'm strong enough to cope with her" I knew, if anyone else tried to touch her they would get hurt.
"Fine. Miss Daniels, tell Mr. Richards that Mr. Hale is taking a sick student to the nurse and won't be back for a while" I carried her out the class.

It was as I finished my recollections that I realized. She was lying still. Her breathing had slowed but her eyes were still rolled back which was disturbing. I shifted her weight so I had a free hand, which I used to slide her eyelids closed. We reached the sick bay and I lay her in the cot.
"What happened?"
"Someone barged into her in chemistry. She fell to the floor and started to shake when I picked her up"
"I don't know what I can do! I think she really needs to go to hospital"
"I think she'll be fine. She stopped struggling a few minutes ago"
"Are you going back to class?"
"Can I keep an eye on her? I'm a friend of hers"
"Okay" the nurse went out to the office and I sat beside Niam. About an hour later, she woke up.
"Where am I?"
"You're in the school sick bay. You collapsed in science, remember?"
"Why are you here? Jasper?" she sat up.
"I carried you here. What happened?"
"Nothing"
"You collapsed and started having a fit when somebody knocked into you. That is not anything"
"It's none of your business! It's my life and I want you to leave me alone! Just...get lost!" she shouted. I raised an eyebrow, but sighed and left.
"She's awake," I told the nurse "I think she's fine"
