"Honey, please just go hunting," I said, trying to reason with my daughter.

"No, dad! Anything you tell mom, you can tell me!" Renesmee replied. Clearly, she had adopted her mother's stubborness.

"No, I really can't," I said. I tried to think of something to get her out of the house, but the thoughts running through my daughter's head were distracting and slightly desturbing. "Stop thinking of Jacob!" I said, slamming my fist down on the desk.

"I'm sorry!" she said, raising her hands in defence. "I can't help it, honestly."

"Well.....If you went hunting, we wouldn't have to worry about it!" I said, trying to, once again, get her to leave the house. I couldn't talk about a divorce in front of my daughter. She would be devistated if I divorced Bella.

"Dad, is something wrong?" Wow. She's caught on. Amazing.

"No, please just go hunting or to the mall, or somewhere! Go out with Jacob! I'll pay," I said, reaching into my pocket and pulling out a black leather wallet.

"No! I'm not leaving!" Fifteen years old and already making her own decisions?

"Go now or you're grounded," I said, laying down the law.

"I'll find out!" She stomped out of my office, slamming the door behind her.

______________

I sat across from my.....Wife. She had her head in her hands, her hair tied back in a whispy ponytail. Her eyes were dull, not like Renesmee's gleaming topaz ones.

"So, Edward, what is it?" she said in a voice that should've made me swoon. But it didn't. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard.

I thought this marriage over for so many years before I came through on the proposel. How could I have got stuck in such a failure of a marriage? How could I marry someone so......Annoying?

"Oh, uhm, well Nessie's not home, so I thought we could......" I gulped, my voice trailing off.

"Oh, I know what you mean," she said. Bella swiftly got out of her chair and walked around the table, sitting right on my lap.

"I didn't mean that," I said.

Her eyebrows did that annoying thing where they almost touch in the middle, but not quite. "Then, what did you mean?"

"Not that," I said simply, though I thought she knew that now.

"Well, what exactly then?"

"Uhm....I thought we could talk." She giggled. How could this intimidate me? She was a harmless creature. Kindof. I would've been less afraid if I hadn't seen Bella suck the blood out of a sleek, black panther in South Africa.

"What about, sweetie?" she asked, looking at my eyes. Or trying to at least. I looked away, avoiding any eye contact she was trying to make.

"Stuff," I said. I rubbed the back of my neck. It was sweating.

"Alright, I'll start the conversation. How is your day going?"

"Good." Why wasn't I able to talk? Oh, yeah, I was trying to bring up a divorce.

"Good."

"Bella, do you remember what I told you a few years after Renesmee was born?" I asked, trying to lead into the topic of divorce.

"That I was your true love," Bella smiled. It sickened me, making my stomach do backflips.

"Yeah. Well, did you believe me?" What happened to Edward Cullen, the smooth, sleek opperator?

"No, of course not!" Well I doubted myself and that was enough doubt for both of us.

"Oh. Alright." I slid her off my lap and disappeared before she could say another word.

Coward, coward, coward! I yelled in my head. I would have to do this, one way or another.
