I realized the moment I saw him I loved him. That I could never love anyone else, no matter what I may think. That at this very moment, I wanted his lips on mine, and I wanted him. Forever.

Jake's POV

After spending too much time for my liking with the Cullens, I heard a car turn onto the drive. I leaped up from my seat once I heard the car stop. There was brief talking between Alice and Nessie, then their footsteps came toward the house. Nessie came through the door, looking beautiful as always.

“Hi Jake.” she breathed.

“Hey Nessie!” I greeted her, grabbing her into a hug.

“How was shopping?” I asked once I set her down.

“Fun.” she shrugged.

“Just fun? Did ya buy lots of clothes?” I pried.

“Yes, Jake, I did. It was a blast! And,” she gasped sarcastically, “I even got a pretzel! Wow! It was the best experience of my life!” she mocked me and began to laugh, I couldn't help but join in.

“Ha-ha. I was just asking.” I defended myself.

“I was kidding! Sheesh Jake! Take a chill pill!” she teased. I stuck my tongue out at her. She did the same and gave me a huge grin, which caused me to do the same.

“I wanna hunt.” I said abruptly, I followed her out the door.

“Wanna have a contest?” I suggested.

She nodded and I ran into the woods to phase. After I phased, I ran for a head start.

“Cheater!” she called and nearly caught up with me.

We hunted deer. After she was done hunting, she watched me hunt. When I was finished, I ran behind some trees and phased back. I walked back to her, and she said,

“I swear, you've grown even more!”

“Thanks for noticing.” I said. She looked upset.

“What's wrong Ness?” he asked.

“Nothing.” she shook my head and looked away from me. I sat beside her and made her look at me.

“Tell me. Please?” I pleaded, she simply shook her head.

“Nessie, you can tell me! Just say it. Did I do something?” I panicked, not wanting to be the cause of her sorrow.

“No! You didn't do anything. It's just, I , well.” she stammered.

“What?” I whispered.

“I want to tell you something, but you're gonna hate me.” she murmured.

“I could never hate you Nessie! I love you!” I blurted out. Damn it! That's the first time I said that!

“Jake, I wanna date. Other guys. I'm so sorry.” tears began to role down her cheeks. I brushed them away, trying to prevent my emotions from showing.

“Okay. So, you don't love me the way I love you?” my voice was clear of the hurt I felt.

“Jake, I don't know. I just need my time to think about it.” she explained.

“But, there is still a chance, right?” I asked.

“Yes. There is a chance. I just want to figure things out. Play the field. Go on dates.” she was young, she wanted to try it out, I could understand that.

“Okay. Then, I'll hold onto that chance. I'll wait for you forever.” I declared.

“Jake, you should try dating too. Then, we'll have the chance to be jealous.”she smiled at me, causing my heart to melt.

“I don't know. I guess it's worth a try. Always know, no matter what, I wouldn't choose anyone over you. Just let me know.” I lied partially, I could never date. She nodded and stood up, tears still rolling down her face.

“Bye Jake. I'm so sorry.” she whispered.

“Can we stay friends?” I wondered, not wanting to leave her completely.

“Of coarse, Jake. You're my very best friend.” she told me, it helped a little.

“Bye Jake.” she mumbled, running away. For once, I didn't follow her. I couldn't follow her, my legs didn't work. I fell from where I was sitting, crumpling to the ground.

If I thought the pain of losing Bella hurt, this hurt a million times worse. Why did I always fall for those who couldn't love me back?

I always fell for a girl who was like a best friend, and out of my league. I had once thought Bella was my soul mate, until I met Renesmee. I closed my eyes and recalled many memories of Renesmee.

Everything inside me came undone as I stared at the tiny porcelain face of the half-vampire, half-human baby. All the lines that held me to my life were sliced apart in swift cuts, like clipping the strings to a bunch of balloons. Everything that made me who I was – my love for the dead girl upstairs, my love for my father, my loyalty to my new pack, the love for my other brothers, my hatred for my enemies, my home, my name, my self – disconnected from me in that second – snip, snip, snip – and floated up into space. I was not left drifting. A new string held me where I was. I remembered the exact words I thought as I saw her. I remembered her growing as a ten year old.

“J-a-a-a-a-keyyyy!” she whined. “Take me hunting.” she demanded.

“Again?” I chuckled.

“I want to win!” she declared, staring at me with her huge brown eyes.

“Fine. Bring it on.” I ran into the woods to phase, and came back. I let her win that one.

I remembered her first day of high school, when her growing was stable enough that nobody would be suspicious.

“Come on Ness!” I called, she was still getting ready and we were almost late.

“You hold your horses!” she replied.

“We're gonna be late!” I shouted.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” she came down the stairs, looking stunning.

“Happy?” she growled sarcastically.

“Sure, sure.” I answered, she rolled her eyes.

“Let's go.” we walked out and went to the high school.

Next, I remembered 'saving' her from her first guy problem.

“I said no!” her voice shouted at someone, I began to run to wherever I heard her.

“Oh come on, Ness. You know you like me. Don't deny it.” that jerk's voice taunted her. I burst through the door, seeing her cornered by a jock, he was about to kiss her before I came in.

“I don't believe she wants you.” I said, pulling him back by his shirt collar.

“Now, I suggest you get out of here within five seconds, before I kick your ass. If I ever see you even talking to her again, you will deal with me.” I shoved him across the room, he ran out. She wrapped her arms around me, crying.

“Thanks Jake.” she whispered, I took her home when she calmed down.

I smiled to myself at the memories. Then, I remembered her at prom- which I had taken her to. She came down in a pink dress, with matching heals. I handed her the corsage that I got her that Alice claimed 'would go perfect with her dress'.

“Thanks Jacob.” she grinned. I offered her my arm and we went off to prom.

I opened my eyes, and some tears came down my face. How I loved her, and how she broke my heart. I would never lose her. Even if she didn't love me back, I would always love her and I would never stop trying.
