Prologue of “knowing”: bpov

As I stared off out at the sunset, occurring over the Atlantic Ocean, I began to think. Thinking is something I do often, when I think I mainly think of the past, and wonder about the present. I usually find myself wondering why the present is so foreign to me. The whole world has seemed foreign to me ever since my daughter died, almost as if I can’t see the sun anymore ever since that fateful day that the realization that my baby girl was gone hit me. It was about ten years ago, just five days after the funeral…

Alice has been trying to cheer me up for the past few days, constantly asking me to go shopping, or to the beach,. Anything to get the death of my daughter off my mind. But I just wasn’t going to have it…

“Bella, honey, you should go shopping with Alice. I know your upset, we all are, but that doesn’t give you a reason to stop living anymore. Go with her, have a great time, be yourself again.” Said Edward after I turned Alice down yet again to go shopping.

“Yes Bella, please! I’m sure it will do you some good, Bella, we want you back!” added Alice.

“Alice I just don’t know if I’m ready for this… I don’t think I ever will be ready for this quite frankly.” I responded.

“Bella, it’s not something you have to be ready for. Were just going shopping, that’s all!” I caved…

“Fine, I’ll go. But if I have some sort of break down in the middle of the store that is your fault!”

“Yay! Do you think we should invite some more people to come with us?” I was almost certain she was relating this to my new found friendship with Rosalie, ever since the funeral we have been close.

“Sounds good. I’ll go get Esme, Rose, and Renesmee-” I gasped as the realization sank in… she wasn’t with us anymore. I began to sob uncontrollably into Edward’s shirt. I quickly glanced at his face, and saw pain there too. Then the world went black and I fell into the darkness, never to return…

But that was 10 years ago, yet it still hurt like a slap in the face. No, more then that. It hurt like I have been stabbed in the heart.

After giving a quick glance around me, I realized I was no longer alone.

“It’s going to be all right, you know that don’t you?” Rosalie asked. She knew why I looked so upset; she was one of the few people who actually knew about my frequent flashbacks and thinking.

“That’s what I’m afraid of… I’m afraid it’s not going to be ok, that it’s never going to get any better. I feel like, Like I have fallen into a deep, dark, bottomless pit, and that I’m never going to get my self out.”

“Trust me, one of these days you will get up and realize that there is more to life. And that very same day is the day you will move on.” I sighed, as I doubted any such day would come.

“Do you know were Jackie is?” Jackie used to be Renesmee’s daughter.

“I believe she is out hunting with Jasper again.” It turned out that a ¾ vampire has a full Vampire diet… Jackie was a blood drinker. In fact, the only thing about Jackie that is even remotely human is she sleeps, but when she does sleep its only for a good 3 ½ minutes or so… She was just as strong as any Vampire, Just as fast, and once she reached 5 she looked about 20, so she stopped ageing.

“But they just went yesterday!”

“I guess that hunting is a father daughter bonding thing to them… typical Jasper, anything to make him feel more ‘fatherly’…” I laughed in response… wait a minute. I laughed? I actually laughed! I haven’t even had so much as a giggle since the funeral! Rose looked at me, eyes first filled with confusion, then realization, then pure joy.

“Bella you laughed!” She screamed. I couldn’t believe this… I had to tell Edward! So I opened my mind, so he could hear me, and screamed in my thoughts as loud as I could, “EDWARD! Rose made me laugh! I actually laughed! Edward was by our sides in less than three minutes.

“Bella, maybe this means you are finally starting to get better!” said Edward.

“Maybe I am…” but then my words were cut off by the scream of less-then-happy jasper…

“JACKIE NO!” Screeched Jasper off in the distance. Edward, Rose, and I exchanged the same look of panic and worry. What could possibly have gone wrong? Was she hurt? Was she lost? My thoughts were interrupted by the faint sound of a human female’s cries of terror…
