Forks high school.
Our school for the next couple of years. Just another high school. The same classes. The same boring, teenager minds.
As we pull up to the parking lot, almost every single head there turns towards our car.
Of course. Even the least conspicuous of our cars, was a stand out here.
The humans heads were already filled with the same thoughts.
“New kids? They are probably rich. Look at that car. It’s the nicest in the parking lot.”
“I wonder if they are good looking. I hope there are some girls in that car. I could use a new flirt.”
“Maybe there is a cute boy among them. I’m sure I could get him, if there is.”
I resisted rolling my eyes.
The same, boring thoughts, as I said.
In the backseat, Rosalie, Emmett and Jasper were sitting. Rosalie and Emmett were whispering to each other. And I was sure that I didn’t want to know what they were talking about.
When they were talking that low, it wasn’t hard to guess. Normally I would block my siblings thoughts to be polite, but at times like this, it was for my own convenience, I did it.
I could tell Jasper was uncomfortable too. Whether it was because of the proximity of all those humans, or the emotions radiating of off Rose and Em, I wasn’t sure.
I pulled the car over.
“Are you guys ready” Alice said.
Even though she was asking everybody, I knew that she was mostly concerned about Jasper. He was having a harder time than the rest of us, resisting the humans.
“Let’s get this show on the road!” Emmett said and clapped his hands together.
He reached for the door handle. Rose rolled her eyes, took one last look at herself in the front mirror, and then her and Em stepped out.
Jasper and Alice followed.
I didn’t move.
“Aren’t you coming” Alice asked me in her thoughts.
She looked at me. I sighed and stepped out too.
Again, all of the human’s thoughts were the same.
“OMG, I didn’t think they were going to be THAT good looking!”
“That blonde one is the hottest girl I’ve ever seen.”
“I have to ask that bronze haired one out, before any of the others girls take him”
I wanted to go back into my car and drive home.
Of course the humans, our intended prey, thought we were good looking.
it was a part of being a vampire, looking, sounding and smelling good.
But it still got annoying over the years.
“So, what are the thoughts of us this far?” Emmett was wondering.
I laughed once.
“It looks like you’re going to have a fight for Rose. All of the boys are interested in her”
Emmett scowled. Then he put his arms around Rosalie, pulled her close and kissed her on the neck.
“What are they thinking now?” He thought smugly.
“You and Rose just broke about 2/3 of the students dreams. Girls and boys.”
“That’s all I needed to hear”
Rosalie flipped her hair and smiled. She took his hand.
“Lets go, you big oaf”
She dragged her of towards their first class. Even though she had only heard a half of the conversation, she already knew what I was about.
I sighed inwardly.
Even after over 50 years of marriage, they still acted like they just fell in love. It was the same thing for Alice and Jasper; they just weren’t as flamboyant about it. And Carlisle and Esme too, for that mater.
And I was the odd man out, as always.
Id almost forgot were I was, but then Alice called me out with her mind.
I nodded just the slightest, so that she knew I’d heard her.
“How is he holding on?”
She wanted to know how Jasper was.
I concentrated on him. All he was thinking was:
“I’m doing it for Alice. I’m doing it for Alice”
He was having a hard time, but he was holding on.
“So?” Alice asked.
She was really worried. I turned my head to her, and smiled just the tiniest bit. Her thoughts were filled with relief.
“Come on, Jasper. We don’t want to be late for our first day of school”
She took his hand, and with her little dance steps, walked towards building 3.
The opposite direction of were I stood.
Jasper looked over his shoulder, and rolled his eyes to me.
I laughed soundlessly.
Even without reading his thoughts, I knew he was thinking that she was way too excited, for yet another high school year.
I followed after them. Preparing my self for the unoriginal thoughts of the 21st century’s teenagers.
