Dawn's Point of View

So yesterday I was standing next to a throne and now I’m riding in a car with a bunch of shape shifters but I couldn’t be any more comfortable. It must be the cute one driving. Jacob is still staring at me with that stupid smile on his face…who’s the mind reader now? But he wouldn’t want to know what’s going on in my mind. Leah’s blushing like crazy and I can’t help but think how adorable it makes her look. Why did Jacob make her out to be some kind of horrid swamp-creature? I think she’s kind of cool. Too bad I can’t read her mind anymore, that faded away half way through the flight to Seattle. The air is sticky and wet here but it feels good on my skin, like taking a very light shower. The breeze is soft against my skin and I can smell all the plants and greenery around me. We just arrived at some ram-shack house in the middle of a plush forest and I assume it’s Jacob’s place.

“Make yourself at home man!” He yawns and then collapses on an old torn up couch. I glance around the corner and in the kitchen and it’s a lot smaller then I think. Is there even a bathroom?

“Hey Jake you know where I can get some clothes around this place?” I ask. I didn’t have time to pack anything, I didn’t even have time to say goodbye to my mother.

“Oh crap that’s right! Hmmm… Leah, why don’t you take him?” She shoots a panicked slash angry look at Jacob who pretends to stretch and yawn before closing his eyes. When her back is turned he opens his left eye and smiles.

“Ughh..umm, okay I guess.” She manages to whisper.

“I want to go!” Seth yells but Jacob quickly extinguishes him.

“No, no no! You have to do patrols my man!” Jacob says, eyes still closed. I can feel the joy just radiating of him and the chagrin just oozing from Leah. I almost tell her she doesn’t have to but she’s already walking to the door.

“Are you coming or what?” She asks and I can’t help but follow.

You know that awkward feeling you get when you’re around someone amazing but you have absolutely nothing to say? Okay well times that by eleven and you have me and Leah. We’ve been driving for about twenty minutes now and I can’t seem to pry myself out of my shelf and just say something. God, im a loser. I take this time to survey all of her defining traits. Her skin kind of looks like warm amber, golden and glossy, big brown eyes are intent on the road but I can see the worry in her furrowed brow. If only she knew I was having as much trouble speaking as she was, I bet that would make this car ride a lot less tense. Her hair, cut in a short bob, reminds me of a pitch black night. I like her hands the best, thin and fragile looking. Finally after much anticipation Leah finally starts off.

“I’m sorry about my brother. He can get a little over excited sometimes.” She managed to give me a tight lipped smile and I realize I’ve been holding my breath. A gush of air expels from my chest and I manage to breathe again.

“It’s fine. He looks like a good kid.” The wind whips me in the face through the window and I smile at its clean, fresh smell.

“Where do you want me to take you? The closest place to get clothes is Port Angeles but I’m afraid they might not have a great selection. It’s not like they have Gucci or Dolce and Gabbana, nothing you’re used to.” She eyes the clothes I already have on and smiles a real smile.

“Who said I wanted anything like that?” I asked.

“Well I might be a werewolf but I still know stuff girls are supposed to know. Plus people don’t walk around here wearing that, unless of course, you’re a Cullen.”

“Well I guess technically I am a Cullen, don’t you think?” Her eyes narrow leaving her tight lipped again.

“No. No you’re not you’re a Volturi.” Her hands grip on the steering wheel tighter and I find myself laying mine on top of hers.

“No I’m not, at least not anymore.” My hand feels like it’s on fire but I don’t care, her heart skips a beat and for a moment I listen to the thrumming irregularity. She pulls away, turning the car onto a busy street. Welcome to Port Angeles. Great! Thanks a lot Port Angeles. She managed to park the rust Rabbit into a parking lot in front of a large department store. I start to get out but she doesn’t move a muscle.

“You’re not coming?” She bit her bottom lip contemplating.

“I just…umm… I have some friends in there that wouldn’t really approve you know?” She says bowing her head down in embarrassment.

“What wouldn’t they approve of?” I ask for getting for one minute I am a vampire and she is a werewolf. She summons up all of the audacity she has to tell me exactly what I don’t want to hear.

“You’re Felix’s son. You’re practically the spawn of the devil to them Dawn. I just don’t think it’s a good idea.” I can’t be more mortified right now and Leah’s not budging so I have no choice but to sit back in the car with her.

“Now I know and you can clearly see that im a good guy right? I mean I came all this way to defy my imbecile father just to be rejected by a pretty girl?” I manage to say and her cheeks flush crimson despite her dark skin.

“Oh my god, I can’t believe you’re making me do this!” She whines and all I can do is laugh.

“Don’t be such a… how do you say it… party pooper. Just go with the flow Leah.” The sound of her name on my tongue makes her heart skip again and I laugh even louder.

“What? ‘Part pooper’ is not that funny.” She questions me but I just shake my head. Okay here it goes.

“You should really control your heart beat Leah. Don’t want you to faint on me ‘kay?” She raises her eye brow and smiles again. Her smile reminds me of summer.

In the store I manage to pick out enough close to last me about a week in Volterra but Leah told me that no one really throws away clothes in Forks. I wish my mom would have raised me with a little more reality then just designer clothes and killer instincts. I guess ever since her and my dad got married she managed to fully submerge herself into the life of luxury, which managed to change me completely. I remember when I was just a couple moths old and my life was so much simpler, I guess we really seemed like a family then instead of just one very powerful entity. I was just finishing explaining to Leah the facts of Volturi life when we exited the store and bumped into some of her friend ‘friends’.

“Hey wolf girl, didn’t know you were so tight with the leeches these days.” I searched for any sign of laughter in her eyes but found the exact opposite- anger.

“Beat it Paul! I don’t need your shit right now.” Paul grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him.

“Aren’t you going to introduce us to your friend? Another one of the Cullen’s supposed family members?” He grinned at me all sharp toothed and evil.

“This is Renesmee’s son Dawn.” She managed to say. Immediately the two guys stepped back cautiously taking Leah with them. Anger, rage, fear, and confusion all pulsed through them at a million miles per second. Leah just stood there watching me carefully.

“So your fathers the fucking monster is that right?” Paul said grinning again. He stepped shoving both hands in his pockets.

“Paul stop. Jared get him!” Jared just shrugged grinning the same dumb wolf-y grin.

“Don’t do this Paul. I don’t want to do this, man.” I said holding my hands out to warn him. God I didn’t want to do this in front of her. Paul stepped forward and shoved me once. Twice.

“Do what leech? You the same kind of jack ass your father was? Thinking about doing it to our Leah or what?” He shoved me again and I closed my eyes patiently waiting.

“Paul!!Paul!!” Jared yelled but Paul was just a heap now, a seemingly lifeless body on the ground. Cutting of someone’s senses isn’t all that fun as it sounds. There’s that panicked look the victims get right before they realize what im doing to them. It’s frozen on there face when they fall to the ground in confusion.

“You better stop that you teeming blood sucker!” He growled through clenched teeth. “You’re a monster you know that?! A fucking asshole just like your father! No one wants you here! Leave!” Paul started to claw the air around him and Jared stood back shocked. I didn’t want to have to do that.

“Your friend will get his senses back once we leave. Have a nice day.” I murmured to Jared still stunned on the sidewalk. “Come on Leah.” She took an apprehensive step forward and then dodged Paul’s flailing arms.

“You didn’t say you could do that.” Leah whispered when we got back into the car. “I’m sorry about what he said. He’s pretty close minded if you ask me.” She was regaining her composure now but I was still in the trance like state I always had after I had to do something like that. “Don’t worry about it. It’s just Paul.” She was like a drone invading my head, I just wanted to drive in peace.

“Can we just…can we just not talk about it?” I said quietly laying my head back on the head rest.

I didn’t want to talk about it. I didn’t want to talk about my father or my mother or my family that I’ve never even got the chance to properly meet. I don’t want to talk about how many people (even if they are vampires) I’ve had killed in the last two years. I don’t want to hear about the Volturi and how they wreck perfectly innocent people’s lives like both of my grandmothers. I don’t want to talk about how I ruined my mother’s life or maybe one day Leah’s life. I didn’t want to talk about any of it for now. I just want to look out my window and see the blur of green sweep by and watch the sun slowly descend somewhere below the earth.
