“Sam! Oh, Sam. I’ve been so worried. Where have you been?”
He came walking out the forest. Naked. He looked really shaken. When he heard his name, he looked confused up.
“Sweetie, where’s you cloth?”
I ran into his arms. He was burning. At first he shrugged away from me, but then he put his arms around me.
“Leah, something happened.”
I looked up at him.
“What are you talking about? Is that why you are naked? And why is your temperature so high?”
He let go of me, and put his hands on my shoulders.
“Leah, I don’t think we can be together anymore”
It felt like a kick in the guts.
“You don’t love me anymore?”
“I love you so much, Lee Lee, and that is why we can’t be together.”
“What do you mean? It’s for my own good you break up with me?”
asked sarcastically. Like I haven’t heard that one before.
“Not like that, Lee Lee. I’m not safe”
“Okay...” I said hesitantly.
I looked at him. He looked pained. Like what he was doing actually hurt him.
I could feel my eyes starting to water up.
“Well then” I said. “Go get your cloth your self”
I turned around and ran.
I didn’t want him to see me cry.
I didn’t look back.
But before he was completely out of sight, I could hear him whisper something that sounded like:“I’m so sorry, Lee Lee”
When I got home, I slammed the door shut.
Seth looked up from the TV.
He said with his mouth stuffed with popcorn.
I ignored him.
When I didn’t answer he got up.
I was almost at my bedroom door, when he grabbed my shoulder.
“Leah, what’s wrong?” he looked concerned at me.
“Just leave me alone!” I exploded at him.
He got so surprised that he ripped his hand back, like he’d been shocked.
I opened my door, and locked it when I was inside.
I stood with my back against the door.
Then, I broke down.
I’d never cried that much before.
Several times my dad, my mom, or Seth knocked at my door.
They all wondered what was wrong.
Some of the times I ignored them. Other times I started screaming.I screamed for them to leave me alone, for them to just jump off a cliff or something.
It really hurt them. But I didn’t care.
I couldn’t feel anything.
Only the heartbreak.
After some time, I stopped crying.
I guess it’s possible to use up all of your tears.
When I didn’t cry anymore, I went to my desk. I had a picture of me and Sam on it.
Actually I had several.
I took them all and smashed them against the floor. Then I went for my albums.
I had one full of pictures of Sam and me.
That was the only time I left my room that night.
I walked out in the living room. Both of my parents were sitting there. My mom started to get up
“Leah, honey. What’s wrong? What broke in there?”
I just starred coldly at her.
she stopped both talking and walking.
I went over to the fireplace.
Standing there, feeling the heat from the flames, reminded me of Sam. He had been burning. A single tear rolled down my cheek.
I could feel my parent’s eyes on me.
I wiped the tear away, silently promising myself never to shed a tear for him again.
I opened the album in my hands.
On the first page was a picture from my birthday last year. The day Sam had given me the album.
In the picture was Sam and I. Sam had his arms around my waist, and we were both smiling.
On the page was also written a small sentence in Sams handwrites.
“Forever and ever, Lee Lee”
I took a deep breath and threw the album into the fires.
“So much for forever” I whispered to myself.
I watched the album burn for a minute, then I went back to my room and closed the door after me.
