Waking up the next day I sat up and looked around, forgetting where I was and how I had gotten there. Images of getting my blood drawn came back to me, of the needles breaking in my arm, and the excruciating pain I had experienced.

I recalled Edward carrying me back to my bed. I thought of the cool arms that wrapped around me the night before. Taking away my nightmares. I looked down at the spot where he laid, and saw the imprint of his body on the bed.

I stretched my arms and yawned. I looked at the clock on the night stand and was shocked at the time. It was three o’clock in the afternoon. I had slept all the way through school. As I was climbing out of bed, Alice walked into the room.

“Good afternoon sleepy head!” She exclaimed, “Edward and I took the liberty of getting you your assignments.” She smiled and handed me a book and stack of papers.

“Thanks,” I muttered, “Why didn’t you wake me up for school?”. She plopped down on the bed next to me,

“Carlisle said it would be a good idea for you to sleep after what happened last night. He said it took a large toll on your body, and you needed your rest.” She continued, “But anyways, Chris asked me where you were today. I told him you weren’t feeling well. If you’ve forgotten, the dance is tomorrow. I gave him my cell phone number to reach you at. I also bought us some dance tickets.” She smiled widely at me, proud of her accomplishments. I stared at her blankly,

“Wait, who says I’m going to go to the dance?” She laughed,

“Of course you’re going to go silly, Chris should be calling anytime to ask you. Actually my phone is going to ring in about twenty minutes.” She smiled widely.

“Get up! I’m going to get some dresses from my and Rose’s closets for you to try. Don’t worry about your school work, I’ll see if Jasper will do it for you.” She hopped off of the bed and went to my closet. She grabbed a pink silk off-the-shoulder top and black leggings and tossed them on the bed.

“That will look good, now hurry we have a lot to do.” She bounced out of the room. I sat on the bed overwhelmed. As I was about to get up, Carlisle stepped in.

“Heaven, my dear. How are you feeling this afternoon?”

“Fine, I feel better today.” He laughed,

“I got your blood into the lab; I’m not going to have the results back until Saturday though.” I winced at the memory of the blood drawing,

“I got as much as I needed so we will not have to do that again.” He smiled at me, “So take it easy today, and enjoy yourself.” He turned around and walked out.

I sighed deeply, not looking forward to today. I began to wonder where Edward was, I remember his arms around me, and my heart skipped a beat. I mentally shoved the thoughts aside, reminding myself of our friendship and his love for Bella. The last thing I needed was to have feelings blossom for Edward, which would complicate my life and his so much more.

I got out of bed and walked out in the hall into the bathroom, I didn’t feel any warmth so I knew Edward wasn’t around. I turned the hot water on in the shower, and let the steam fill the room. Undressing slowly I stepped in.

When I got out I realized I hadn’t brought my clothes in the bathroom with me, I listened closely to make sure there was nobody in the hall. I wrapped a fluffy white towel around myself, and opened the door and peaked out.

Once in my room I turned around and shut the door. I felt the warmth rising up my legs and turned around quickly. Edward was standing near my bed, looking at me with his eyes wide.

“I’m sorry, ugh Alice wanted me to bring these into you.” He lifted his hand to show me a few dresses on hangers. He stood there staring at me for a long moment; I felt very uncomfortable and opened the door to let him know he could leave. Without saying a word he bolted out the door, and I shut it quickly behind him.

I grabbed some under garments out of my bag, and slipped them on. I walked over to the bed at looked down at the dresses Alice had Edward bring to me. There were three of them. I picked the first one up and tried it on. It was red, and very short, not leaving much for the imagination. The next on was red also, with thin straps, it was longer, and the cleavage line ran nearly to my belly button, I didn’t bother to try this one on.

I picked up the last dress and looked at it, it was a black Marilyn Halter dress. I slid it up over my legs, and lifted the halter around my neck. The cleavage line ran low, but not to low. It hugged all of my curves, and made my breasts look full. I twirled around and the skirt blossomed out. It was only a little higher than my knees. I took it off, and set it back on the bed.

I dressed in the outfit Alice set out for me and pulled my hair into a bun on the top of my head. I grabbed the two red dresses off of the bed and as I turned to walk to the door it opened.

“I knew you’d pick that one.” Alice smiled smugly, her arm was extended and I realized she was handing me her cell phone, “Chris is on the phone.” I smiled and snatched it from her hand.

“Hello?” I said

“Hey Heaven, I missed you at school today.” His voice was deep and husky over the phone.

“Yeah, I wasn’t feeling to well this morning. I will be there tomorrow though.” I replied.

“Well I was wondering…” He trailed off,

“Yeah?”

“I was wondering if you would like to go to the dance with me tomorrow night?” His voice sounded assured and confident. I smiled.

“Sure, I’d like that.”

“Alright, well how about I pick you up at 8:00? We can grab some dinner and be to the dance by 9:00?” I looked at Alice and she was grinning broadly.

“Yeah that’s fine, but I’m going to be getting ready with Alice, so do you think you could pick me up at her place? I’ll give you directions tomorrow at school.”

“That’s fine, well umm... I’ll see you tomorrow then.” We hung up and I looked at Alice.

“Well you were right, as always.”

She laughed, “Of course I was.”

The day was uneventful. Alice and I sat around and watched movies, and she ordered some Chinese for me for dinner. I didn’t see much of Edward and Alice told me that he was out hunting. Around nine o’clock I decided to go to bed.

“Well I’m off to bed Alice, I’m tired.” I yawned standing from the couch. She looked away from the television to me.

“I’ll wake you up in the morning for school.” I smiled at her and continued up the stairs.

Once in my room I changed into a cameo top and boy shorts Alice had gotten me. Getting into bed I laid awake staring up at the ceiling, wondering if Edward was going to climb in my bed again tonight. I hadn’t seen him since he was in my room to give me the dresses, and I hated to admit I kind of missed him.

I was so used to him being around, it was strange when he wasn’t, I didn’t like it. I tried to keep my thoughts and feelings to a friendly manner, but my mind couldn’t help but wander in a different direction. I thought about what it would feel like to kiss him, and I thought about my dream. I thought about how good his arms felt around me the previous night. I shook my head and gave a short scream of frustration into my pillow.

I turned my thoughts to Chris, and his handsome face. I thought about dinner and dancing with him tomorrow. I was nearly asleep and my subconscious began to toy with my thoughts, Chris’ face turned into Edwards and he lowered his lips to mine. I took the kiss hungrily. I awoke again to the feel of cold arms slithering around me, and fingers running over my bare stomach. I felt his chest again my back, and moved my body closer to his. I heard him whisper my name before falling asleep again in his arms.

When I woke up, Edward was not next to me, and I was beginning to wonder if I had just been dreaming it. That day at school was filled with chatter about the dance. Edward didn’t say a word to me, not even a good morning during the car ride, or even so much as a sideway glance in English. I shut him out of my head, the way he was shutting me out. I gave Chris the directions to Alice’s during lunch, and after school he hugged me goodbye and kissed me on the cheek.

Edward’s face was angry the whole way to their house, and he didn’t say a word to me. When we arrived he got out of the car and slammed the door. I watched him bolt into the forest. Running so fast I could only see a blur.

“God, what the hell is his problem today?” I asked Alice as I was climbing out of the backseat. Her eyes turned to the forest,

“I’m not sure, he tells you more than me.” I looked at the forest and didn’t see a trace of him. I shrugged my shoulders and Alice and I made our way into the house.

Eight o-clock was fast approaching. I glanced over at the clock on Alice’s wall; it was already 7:30. Alice had just finished my hair, and refused to let me look in a mirror until I had put my dress on. She carefully slipped the dress over my head, sure not to mess up my hair. Once it was on, she looked down at my feet,

“I think I have a pair of heels that will fit you.” She ran into the closet and came back out with a pair of black shoes. They were open toed and had diamond covered straps that wrapped around my ankles. She bent down and slid them on my feet and fastened them. I looked down at them in surprise, they fit perfectly.

“Okay, come on.” She grabbed my hand and pulled me down the hall to my room.

Once in front of the mirror I gasped. I saw Alice standing behind me in the reflection smiling widely. She had only put a bit of make up on me. I saw my eyelids sparkling with the white shadow she had put on them, and she lined them very thin with black eyeliner. The mascara made my eyes look larger than they were. She had piled my hair neatly on the top of my head, and had small spirals falling around my face.

The dress hugged my every curve, and my cleavage stood out. I had to admit, that even I thought I looked rather stunning. I turned around and hugged her, “Wow Alice, thank you.” She hugged me back.

“Alright, I have to go get ready now, and let Jasper know were leaving soon.” I smiled at her and she bolted out the doorway. I looked at the clock, and it was now seven fifty.

Glancing again at myself in the mirror, I walked to the bed to grab the small black purse Alice let me borrow. As I was turning around I felt the heat rising up my legs, and saw Edward rounding the doorway into my room. When he stepped in and looked at me, he stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes scanned me from my head to my toes. Arrogantly I did a little twirl in front of him,

“What do you think?” He looked me up and down again, and suddenly his face filled with disgust.

“I think your going to be taller than your pathetic date, who is waiting for you downstairs.” He then turned and stormed out of the room. I felt tears welling up into my eyes, and I blinked rapidly to avoid smearing the make-up.

I quickly went to knock on Alice’s door before heading downstairs, when she opened it I looked in and saw that her room, that was clean five minutes before, had clothes piled everywhere. I gave a small laugh, “Chris is downstairs, so I guess I will see you there. Edward’s not coming to the dance right?” I questioned. She raised her eyebrows, “No I don’t think so. Why?”

“I’ll tell you later.” I said, not wanting to leave Chris with Edward any longer. I gave her a quick hug goodbye and headed down the hallway.

When I was descending the stairs, I heard nothing but silence below me. About halfway down Chris came into view, looking very uncomfortable standing near the door. Edward was standing next to him, shooting him dirty looks. When he laid his eyes on me, he smiled and stepped towards me.

“Hey Heaven.” He said. He looked very handsome. He had his dark hair gelled neatly down, and was wearing what appeared to be a very expensive black suit. He walked to the stairway, and took my hand.

“Are you ready my lady?” He questioned, kissing my hand. I watched as his eyes trailed from my face to my cleavage. I felt the heat rising up my legs from being so close to Edward and pushed it down as quickly as I could.

“Yes sir.” I began to sing a song full of curse words in my head, and glared at Edward. His eyes were full of anger, and he opened the door roughly. Chris was holding my hand and we walked past him as if he didn’t exist.

Once in the car Chris exhaled loudly, “Man, that guy was freaking me out.” I let out a tense laugh.

“Don’t worry about him, he’s not a very happy person.” I glanced back towards the house as we were pulling away, I saw Edward standing in the doorway watching us leave.

We arrive at a small place called the Mountain View Café. Chris opened the door for me like a gentleman and held my hand on the way to the door. I realized that Edward was right; I was nearly half an inch taller than him in my heels.

Once inside and seated, we ordered. I didn’t have much of an appetite and only ordered a small plate of fries. Dinner was silent, he asked me a few questions occasionally, and I would mumble my reply. I couldn’t take my mind off of Edward and how he had treated me before I left. He confused me so much, and the angrier I got the harder it was to push my shield away. While nibbling on a french fries and staring vacantly into space, Chris interrupted my thoughts.

“Are you ready to go?” He asked, I looked up at him. Clearing my throat I replied quietly,

“Yeah.” He took my hand and we headed out of the diner. I caught him several times staring at my chest and undressing me with his eyes. My interest in him began to slowly disappear.

It was nearly nine thirty when we arrived to the gym at school. I could hear the music playing when I stepped out of the car, and I looked over to see Alice’s yellow Porsche pulling in, with Jasper driving.

They parked two spaces away from us. Alice jumped out of the car, looking as beautiful as ever. She ran over to my quickly and gave me a hug, “Right on time huh?” She pulled away and smiled. She looked over to Chris, “ She’s a beauty isn’t she?” She asked him.

He smiled, “She will be the belle’ of the ball.” He smiled and I felt his hand on my shoulder, traveling down and come to rest at the small of my back. I tried to inch away, but he kept it there. Jasper stepped up beside Alice. They were the most beautiful couple I had ever witnessed. Alice’s strappy red dress, and black heels compliment Jaspers black suit and red tie well.

“Well let go dance!” Alice grabbed my hand, and I tried to keep up with her the best I could in heels.
