Miracle Girl

Summary:
13-year-old Bella is in California visiting Charlie when Edward's adopted sister, Alice calls. The news leads to a startling train of events that only bring them closer. Some fluff, some angst, some humor... Okay, let's just say that this story is a mixed bag. Teen for angst and romance in future chapters, but I'm going to do my absolute best to keep this PG-13 at the most. AU, AH, sort of OOC, just enough to make the story make sense. Mostly Bella and Edward's point of view, but some others. This is just my second fanfiction, but please be generous and read it!! I have most of it written already, so the more reviews the more chapters!!

Notes:
I own Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn-- one copy of each. Other than that, I own the plot line and little else. No copyright infringement intended whatsoever.

Chapter One: Phone Call

Two more weeks. Two long, hot, boring weeks in California with my father, Charlie, and then I could return home to Forks, my mother, Renee, and the love of my teenage life, Edward. I know what you're thinking, I’m only 13, and I have no clue what I'm talking about, but I know that I will always love Edward, no matter what. He, his 12-year-old adopted sister Alice, and his parents, Carlisle and Esme, were already more than family to me.

I turned on my computer and opened the internet. I was anxious to answer my e-mail, for the dual purpose of hearing from Edward and keeping my mother calm. I opened my e-mail. Sure enough, there they were: one e-mail each from Edward and Renee. I longed to answer Edward’s first, but I knew mother came before boyfriend. I clicked hers and waited for it to load.

Hi Bella, it’s Mom. How are you? Is it sunny? What are you doing? Do you miss me? Write back soon.

Love,

Mom

I hit the reply key and started to type.

Hi Mom, I’m fine.

Bored as heck, but fine.

Yeah, it’s sunny.

It’s freaking California, for crying out loud. If nothing else, my mother had a talent for speaking the obvious.

Charlie took me open-sea fishing today. We caught a few fish, nothing big.

Actually, Charlie caught a few fish. I just sat in the back and sulked.

I miss you lots.

That last part was actually true.

Love you. See you at the end of the summer.

Bella

I hit send, and then clicked on the second e-mail.

Bella,

How are you? Gone crazy yet? How hot is it? The weather forecast said it would be in the ninety’s today. I miss you. Only two weeks left! I have a doctor’s appointment today. Alice says hi, and that she can’t wait to have her ‘big sister’ back again.

Love,

Edward

I started typing a reply.

Hi Edward, it’s Bella.

I’m bored as heck, but last time I checked, I’m still sane. You’ll be the first one to know otherwise. Did the forecast really say ninety? It felt hotter. I miss you too. Tell Alice I say hi, and give her a hug for me. I’m counting down too. 13 days exactly! August can’t come soon enough!

Love you too,

Bella

I hit send and sighed. I missed home, and Edward, and Alice, much more than I cared to admit. I logged off the computer and got into bed.

Charlie knocked on the door. “Bella, you’ve got a phone call!”

I opened the door and took the phone from Charlie's hand.

“Bella? Bella, is that you?” a familiar voice answered.

“Alice? Hey, Alice! What’s up?” Maybe she had something good to tell me. Even if it was just to say hi or that she missed me, it was still good to here her voice.

But my hopes were short-lived. Alice’s next words, devoid of all emotion, nearly made the phone fall out of my hand. “He’s in the hospital. He got lung cancer.”
