Miracle Girl

Summary:
13-year-old Bella is in California visiting Charlie when Edward's adopted sister, Alice calls. The news leads to a startling train of events that only bring them closer. Some fluff, some angst, some humor... Okay, let's just say that this story is a mixed bag. Teen for angst and romance in future chapters, but I'm going to do my absolute best to keep this PG-13 at the most. AU, AH, sort of OOC, just enough to make the story make sense. Mostly Bella and Edward's point of view, but some others. This is just my second fanfiction, but please be generous and read it!! I have most of it written already, so the more reviews the more chapters!!

Notes:
I own Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn-- one copy of each. Other than that, I own the plot line and little else. No copyright infringement intended whatsoever.

Chapter 5: Healed

Bella’s Point Of View

I rocked back and forth in my seat, on the way from California to Port Angeles, biting my lip.

Edward had to be okay. He had to be.

I repeated those words in my head, over and over, like a mantra. Edward had to be okay. I loved him, for crying out loud. And he was thirteen! Just thirteen years old! He couldn’t die now!

Attention all passengers: we will be landing shortly. Please make sure your tray tables are locked and your seats are in an upright position, the flight attendant said.

I let out a long breath. One more hour, and then I would be able to see Edward.

Then, a startling thought hit me. What if one hour was one hour too long? What if…?

No, I wouldn’t let myself think that way. Edward would live, no questions asked.

Renée was waiting for me at the airport, ready to drive me to the hospital. Despite my previous assurances, the anxiety bubbled up within fifteen minutes of being in my mother’s car. Half an hour. Fifteen minutes. Then ten. “Bella, stop bouncing, you're going to break the seatbelt,” my mom warned. I nodded; my body stopped bouncing, but my leg still went at it. “Bella,” my mom repeated.

“Sorry,” I muttered.

Renée pulled up in front of the hospital. “I’m going to go find a place to park,” she said. “You go on in.”

I sprinted inside, past various people and hospital staff until I arrived at the front desk. The lady there was pale-skinned, like most people in Forks, and she had vivid red hair. I allowed myself to take a quick peek at her nametag. Victoria, it read.

“Hi, I’m here to see Edward Cullen?”

She typed a few words into the computer, before looking up and telling me, “He’s in room 518.”

I was off in a flash, racing toward the elevator. I pressed the call button in a frenzy, willing the elevator to come faster. People were staring, but I didn’t care.

The elevator dinged, and the doors opened. I hurried inside, and then hit the close button before anyone else could get in, and slow me down.

I got off the elevator at the fifth floor, and followed the signs to room 518. Throwing the door open, I rushed inside, disregarding Esme, Alice, and the nurse sitting at the other side of Edward’s inert form. “Edward?” I asked. He twitched and coughed weakly, and a trickle of red dripped from his mouth. I realized with horror that it was blood. “Edward?” I asked again, my voice high-pitched with fright.

“He’s not going to answer you.” Alice’s voice was grave.

Beeeeep. Beep. Be-beep. Beeeep.

Edward’s heart monitor began to flash erratically. The nurse stood up and took out her pager to call the doctor. “Edward?”

No. This wasn’t happening. “Edward?” I was frantic. A man in white walked in. followed by a woman pulling some sort of machine on a cart. “No,” I gasped, as I recognized the defibrillator. “No! Edward!” I screeched, and threw my arms around him. “Edward!”

Edward’s Point Of View

My world was spinning apart. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t feel, I couldn’t breathe. What was happening to me? One minute I had been lying there, talking to my mother and sister, and the next, I was in some unknown place… everything was black… Bella. Where was she? She said she would see me soon. Where was Bella? I tried to ask Alice where she was, but no words came out.

And then I knew I was dead. An angel’s voice was calling my name; a heavenly scent surrounded me. Suddenly, I could breathe again. I wanted to open my eyes, to see what heaven was like, but I couldn’t find them. “Edward,” the angel called again, but something was wrong. The angel sounded almost… scared. That wasn’t supposed to happen.

“Edward?” the angel asked. Sweet breath fanned across my face. I could find my eyes again. I opened them, and stared into the angel’s wide brown eyes. Eyes that were startlingly familiar…

“Bella?” I asked. “Is that you?”

Bella’s Point Of View

I flung my arms around Edward, sobbing. “Edward,” I gasped, “No. Don’t leave, Edward. I need you. I love you, Edward; don’t leave me. Please, Edward, please don’t leave me. Please,” I begged.

And then the most astonishing thing happened. Edward opened his eyes. “Bella?” he asked. “Is that you?”
